I find the whole situation disappointing, and we'll probably never actually know what exactly was going on in the locker room and how much it needed to be done. I think the team today is a safer bet for moderate success, while the team we started yesterday had a better chance for legit Cup contention if you could get everything to click.

At the end of the day though, while Miller and Pettersson are both centers who've had 100 point seasons, they've never been able to click at the same time on separate lines. One of the two were always either injured or struggling, and in the case of this season both at the same time. Like today's lineup having just Pettersson without Miller looks weaker on paper, last season for the second half and into the playoffs our 2nd line was effectively Joshua-Blueger/Lindholm-Garland. It's really no different today if things go well, with potential a legit top line, two good 'middle-six' type lines like the above, a good 4th line, but all backed by a much stronger blueline.

Next step of course, Boeser aside, is what to do with all our new cap space. This will really determine whether we come out stronger or weaker as a contender from what we had last season. The problem isn't so much 'value' though as it is unpredictability, as you never know who will come available and when. I'd say the worst thing we could do is pull a Detroit and just sign whatever middling UFA's happen to be available like Compher and Copp.

Trying to think of every scenario open to us now.

But we essentially traded 1st and Fenstrom to Dump 4M in salary next season while acquiring Petterson and O'Connor.

If the Canucks are looking out by the deadline and Petterson shows no willingness to re sign is it not practical to still trade Petterson 50% retained and fetch a 1st + prospect. Back at Square 1 but with 4M in cap space for next season.

I guess the Av's figured that with cap going up, Rantanen wouldn't re-sign for anything less that $14m a season.

But if there's even a remote chance that Carolina won't buck up to re-sign him, then the Canucks should back up the Brinks truck to his door. Adding Rantanen, would make Canuck fans still pining for the departure of Miller, forget about their pain in a hurry. He's that good.
Has Ranta ever played for a Rutherford team? That seems to be a requirement with the management.

Also, who’s his agent?

I really hope they find some big game pieces. We are starting to look like old school Predators. Solid D but not much going on offensively.

Vancouver Canucks
  • Thinks the Canucks will take their foot off the gas for a little bit
  • Would still like to add a scorer to the line-up
  • Won’t trade Boeser if in playoff contention
New York Rangers
  • Bittersweet scenario for J.T. Miller; he loved his time in Vancouver but wanted the drama to end
  • Any additions depend on where they are in the standings
Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Not done selling; have a lot of balls in the air
  • Are listening on Michael Bunting, Rikard Rakell, Erik Karlsson, Anthony Beauvillier, and Matt Grzelcyk
  • Have some cap flexibility

If you are not re-signing Boeser, mgmt HAS to trade him.

Keeping him and letting him walk is beyond stupid.

What asset fits this description that’s actually available with the assets Canucks have?

Think about it.

Before

What do the Canucks have, great centre depth. What do they need, defensemen. Solution: trade Horvat and Miller for defender.

After

What do the Canucks have, defensive depth. What do they need, centres. Solution: trade Hughes and Willander for two centres!!!

PDG has been waived multiple times and not once has been claimed. Yet Tochett and co keep calling him up and believing on him. Shows the incompetence. Waive Juulsen as well please!

Was thinking that Rakell was an expiring contract and wouldn't be a bad target as a deadline acquisition if we're in a playoff spot, but I just saw that he's still got 3 years left on his deal. Yikes.

Kind of an off-the-board option, but I would be very interested in Troy Terry from Anaheim. I know they signed him long-term, but he is one their "older" core players and might not really be on the roster post-rebuild.

Love the transition ability and crafty inside-triangle chance creation. Cost certainty on his deal is also a big benefit in this cap environment.

He’s pretty one dimensional and awdul defensively but putting him on Peteys wing wouldnt actually be bad idea. He needs butter soft deployment tho

He would be excellent but see no reason why Anaheim moves him.

PDG is a likeable hard working vet. A guy who could be improved upon, but I hope he doesn’t get claimed and remains a part of the organization.

Man, Tuch has never played center. I'd be happy to get rid of Cozens, but maybe some GM likes him and we could get an RD for him somewhere, and we don't need any more wingers right now. Our idiot GM said he's going to re-sign Zucker and Greenway (not sure if he can do it though). We still need a 1C or at least a top 6 C. Someone like Power could be a trade chip for that.
It's interesting with your team especially with the three left side guys you have maybe pivot and look to work a model that Tampa Bay had. Incredible left hand side rotating capable people on the right situationally

Then a few tweaks up front
