yes i
I think Bennett is a guy the Canucks would drool over, but if by some chance he hits the market, I don’t see him signing here. So much of our needs will depend on what happens with Suter and Boeser. But I don’t see a lot of realistic options for scoring forwards, especially centers, out there.

I think we end up targeting a secondary scoring forward like Andrew Mangiapane, provided we can keep Boeser and/or Suter.
Yes i've researched a ton of somewhat realistic C scenarios since Miller left and so few of them in UFA move the needle enough to be worth the fact we wont have enough to re sign Boeser plus the C addition who will almost certainly come with a bad contract.

It's tough because we need to get faster/stronger and drive more play in our top3 lines and both are smart skilled quality players but they don't bring those elements and we only have 13 million to spend without other moves to off load salary and the UFAs are poor this year

As speculated above, full tardy might be in play. Does that surprise you at all?

Peter, come on man?! Really?

As for Tocchet- pay the man! This can't be what is holding it up. It has to be more about the direction of the team and the intense market scrutiny?

I feel like Boeser is the only top 6 forward the Canucks have a realistic chance at signing in free agency. (barring a stupid long term offer to one of the old players)

If something doesn't get done before July 1st, I'm expecting them to circle back with an offer more to his liking when they realize they don't stand a chance with what else is available. There's also a very real chance Boeser doesn't get any offers to his liking and reconsiders the Canucks offer.

i'm 95% sure boeser knows there's a deal waiting for him in columbus. that's why the canucks haven't made any progress on negotiating with him

I was just reiterating what the other poster said.

I would think so. Tocchet has never really coached in a media frenzy like this before, maybe he’s just exhausted from the constant fishbowl and would rather explore other opportunities.

Highly possible and completely reasonable if it isn't for him. I, for one, will miss him if he chooses that route. But I don't put it on management in any way.

It's pretty clear Tocchet's future will probably also be dictated by roster moves this summer. He can't be happy with the roster as currently constructed, so if they do well through the summer and look to be in a good spot he'll obviously be more apt to sign something. I don't think it's much of a question.

I also expect there's a chance he just goes back to broadcasting or something for a year, and returns to the NHL somewhere else once the option is clear. I'm not sure he'll even coach the team again on that option.

If his re-signing is conditional on him "approving" of our roster moves, I feel like we can all just save some time and move on now. Like, surely that's a huge red flag for most of us?

If the hypothetical is true that he'll want to leave because it's been 'frustrating' this year or whatever, then sayonara, no?

I like Tocchet, but under that hypothetical is that not quitter, loser mentality?

i meaen if thats the case, he can gtfo. i don't think it is though.

The big issue with Tocc leaving is Quinn really likes him as a coach & who knows maybe Foote or Goncher follow him wherever he goes (if he leaves).

If he does bail out, for those that have watched how is Malholtra in Abbotsford? Is it the same system or does he give offensive freedom?

no more in hire system. been there done that. let malholtra coach in abbotsford and deal with the kids. develop them. find someone else with a better resume. i know its the recycled coaches but there should be some names avaliable. Dave Hakstol

Whats the feeling here about our first this year? Are you guys wanting to make the pick? Or package it to get this young coveted 2c?

Hoglander re-finding his game after a horrific start has been good to see. Hopefully he's learned how to play out of these funks and is reinvigorated for next year.

Getting him and Joshua back to playing at a 35 point, 15-20 goal pace without seeing first unit powerplay time is a key aspect to the team rebounding next year.

We can’t count on hog being a top six player, unfortunately, we’ve tried this already.

I’m completely fine with having him as a third liner.

I do agree also that Joshua is going to bounce back next season, but I would still have him on the fourth line, because i wanna see Hog and sherwood and Chytil together all year.

So just bring the same team back?

I guess that is one option, but watching this team struggled so hard to generate offense this season, I'm not looking forward to running it back again.
They may not even have enough cap space to re-sign both Boeser and Suter on July 1st.

The way the Canucks normally work their lines up is in pairs, with a grinding, high energy third wheel as the last piece to round things out. If he's in the top 6, it has to be as that high energy piece that isn't making infinite unforced errors, something he was doing way too much of early in the year.

Even then, you really don't want him on that first line that's going to see the opposing top lines as I doubt he fixes his defensive game enough to not get abused in those minutes.

If he's going to be one of the anchor pairs, its likely going to be in the bottom 6 unless he takes a big step up over the summer.

kind of surprised that Raty has popped in 6 goals considering his ice time.

So the "chat" will increase about improving the team.

For when? Next year? They are so far behind the teams that make the show year after year it should be obvious.
For the Canucks making the playoffs once in 9 years is a major new story, Vegas, Colorado, TO, Winnipeg, Dallas NOT making the playoffs is a big story.

Even in this fanbase memory should be the aghast screamed when they missed the playoffs, coaches fired, GM fired, fan rebellion.
First year missing in 6 years.

Fans love our city but even Benning came clean and stated he had to over pay players because none wanted to come here, the same could be happening now.
That is a reason I propose getting the top picks for two or three years at all costs. Those players will be here for close to a decade.
Right now there are a bunch that are about to be released from their indenture, CBA rules, to be free to do what they want.

So many fans aren't seeing or experiencing the dark side of the city. Downtown around the arena is/has been a sewer. Whole areas where the streets and alleys are owned by .... homeless and open drug use.
Robson, Hastings, Cambie, Main, lots of areas that should be avoided, not areas to take kids. Due to politics.

Crime is/was so bad Sky Train had to hire their own police force.

The city just might not be the Eden some fans remember or want to think it is.

Enough of that no doubt there are loads of folks that don't think there is a problem but when hockey players and star NBA players are saying things are bad that gets around.

We are 100% trading it alongside something else for a centre
which teams are accumulating picks right now and getting rid of the kind of Cs we covet?

Seems to me, there are more teams looking for Cs than there are looking to get rid of them.

There simply may not be any trades that make sense before it comes time to make that pick.

That third period 'beat-down' by Vegas last night reinforced one thing for me. The Canucks have far too many small forwards.

Guys like Suter, Blueger, Garland, Hoglander and now Lekkerimaki. It's the basic law of physics. You can't give away that much height and weight every game, and not wear down.

The only guys I'd keep moving forward are Hoglander and Lekkerimaki. Sadly, that would mean sacrificing Garland. But he's a guy who could actually get you something decent in return. Suter is probably gone anyway, and Blueger is somebody they could probably deal for late pick.

The Canucks offseason mantra on the forward line should be--'bigger, stronger and faster'.

A reminder of the old Sweat Hog division when the Oilers would come here and coast for two periods and then turn it on in the third an score 4 or 5.

Or the early AV days when Naslund ans Sundin were saying it was a possession game, that it was silly to give the puck away. Those days when they were out shot by similar margins and AV stated he had no confidence in the scoring abilities of the Canucks.

Been saying for years, size matters. So does attitude but larger humans take abuse better especially in the playoffs, the real season.
