Well they are not going to get a center now that will help in any meaningful way.

So hold onto the pick, draft a C and maybe the kid can be part of the plans within 2-3 years.

It's a crapshoot that a mid round pick will even be in the NHL in their draft + 3 season, much less be an impact player.

The Canucks may not be able to obtain anyone useful with the asset, but they should definitely make an attempt.

The toxic work culture is established and enabled by the shit people at the top. No one should be surprised.
Okay I had to retract that entire post.

Just listened, I think he talked about getting the contract with the Canucks with Rutherford before Rutherford was officially hired.

That first they got from NYR

Absolutely he's garbage. But we wouldnt be giving up Dylan Guenther this time. And the alternative is throwing high picks and prospects at Minny to get Rossi for example.

To VAN - Zibanejad, 2nd
To NYR - 7th
vs
To VAN - Rossi
To MIN - 1st, 1st, 2nd
Keeping all our picks and just paying up for Suter would be a good alternative to Zibanejad :)

it's kind of the opposite situation with Tocchet vs Boudreau isn't it? They want to re-sign Tocchet (don't they?) and hold the one year option. vs them wanting to move on from Boudreau, who held the option of a second season, but was asked not to exercise it?

You think JR is putting the Philly story out there to pressure Tocchet into extending?

I see Beaudreau is really milking this again.

It's kinda ridiculous - it appears he's claiming that Rutherford was putting pressure on him to agree to his option year but it's obvious that Rutherford actually wanted him gone.

I guess it's hard to see the game pass you by but a guy who has coached teams to 600 wins in the NHL should probably have a bit of a thicker skin.

Coming from Bruce Boudreau..I’d take it with a grain of salt.

Yea, Rutherford and Alvin have a lot of issues with handling people. But the relationship with Tocchet seems to be solid.

i'm not taking boudreau's side. i'm just tired of all the drama around this group

yeah, the analogy he pulled was so weird.. JR went to the media to get BB to not to take up his option. I don't think management ever wanted to keep him

i don't really care about the boudreau thing but everything this management group does is so messy. they gotta learn to handle their business quietly
It seems like every time negotiations with a current player/staffer arent going managements way we start hearing about it in the media and how this is a 'distraction' and all it does is make things worse

As good as this management group has been restructuring the org, dealing with contracts, putting in place competent coaching staff, they are so bad at ignoring noise, and only serve to increase it, to everyone's detriment

There is a lesson in there somewhere

While some think it would be focus on managing the hockey team because you do that well, I beg to differ

Let the team fall into a complete shambles, and whip up the noise to a frenzy, say I

We probably need to find a way to keep Suter anyways, regardless of any additions.

Im just saying throwing all our assets at a young center in a market where prices are sky-high is silly.

Sean Couturier
Mika Zibanejad
Elias Lindholm

These are all totally fine capdumps that can all play behind Elias Pettersson and ahead of Teddy Blueger.

As long as we're slightly paid to do so. The days of 1sts are over but even a 2nd or two would be better value than whatever the cost to outbid for a young center.

This is the kind of ammunition the Habs have for example purposes, in regards to the brutal Barzal to VAN mainboards thread. (sorry whoever was op)

2025 1st Montréal
2025 1st Calgary
2025 3rd Montréal
Choice of Mailloux, Hage or Roy

Now i know thats just a fan on some random online forum but THAT is the kind of ammo we're dealing with on a team that is actually taking the next step right in front of us.

They have oodles of space and need the same thing we need.

Marco Rossi is a horrible fit for MON as another smurf but I cant help but think a guy named Mavrik Bourque speaks some french.

Are we gonna outbid that type of package above for a Barzal or a lesser package for a Bourque?

Recap of Rick Dhaliwal's interview with Halford & Brough.

Tocchet
  • Every coach wants a practice facility
  • Keeps being told, Tocchet staying in Vancouver can happen under the right circumstances
Pettersson
  • Want to see his habits improve
  • Needs the habits of a superstar player, which means trying to get better every day
  • Clearly, the Miller vs. Pettersson feud did affect him
Boeser
  • Daily Faceoff has Boeser projected at 7y/9.1m and Dhaliwal says that is very high; has never heard 7y/9m
  • Canucks have offered 5y/8m
  • Other teams can understand why the Canucks want a shorter term
  • He will get paid
Suter
  • Quiet in terms of contract talks
  • Will probably have to re-sign him to a contract that makes them uncomfortable
Free Agent Centres
  • Thinks Sam Bennett will re-sign in Florida
  • Doesn’t see John Tavares or Brock Nelson coming to Vancouver
Willander
  • Probably asking over 700k in Schedule A bonuses
  • Schedule A bonuses remain on the cap until they aren’t reached; can understand why both sides have dug their heels in the sand a little bit on this
  • Belives cooler heads will prevail and he will get signed
  • Everything is on the table for him
Malhotra
  • This is his first professional head coaching job
  • His job is preparing prospects for the NHL
  • People need quiet down about replacing Tocchet with Malhotra; doubts Hughes would appreciate having a rookie head coach
Sedins
  • Agents really appreciate the Sedins presence in Abbotsford
