I'd rather they re-sign Boeser and use a 1st + mid prospect for Norris.

also hope they try to bring in a secondary piece in Maccelli/Roslovic/Reichel.

norris and boeser means probably losing suter and lankinen next year. they'd be in really tight to sign anyone really. maybe if they can convince someone to take soucy or maybe move chytil, joshua or garland they could keep lankinen but the cap would be tight and they'd have other holes to fill if they did

the canucks need a big ticket winger but they can't really afford two unless they replace a lot of their middle six with league min or near enough salaries

Sitting at the airport on another delayed Air Canada flight, which means I can kill time sifting through rosters to see top 6 forwards that may be available given position in the standings, change of scenery, or a trade for a different type of forward to supplement a roster.

1st liner:
Robert Thomas
Pavel Buchnevich
Filip Forsberg
Troy Terry
Jared McCann

2nd liner:
Dylan Cozens (risky contract)
Trevor Zegras (would get assassinated by Tocchet lol)
Matias Maccelli (super buy low)
Lawson Crouse (complementary top 6 guy maybe, horrid season)
Rickard Rakell
Pavel Zacha
Owen Tippett (Philly has lost the plot as usual, would've loved to steal Farabee)
Dawson Mercer
Gustav Nyquist
Tommy Novak

Hate to give up Lekkerimaki or Willander, but you'd likely need to if you wanted someone in the top tier. The Canucks will likely need both of those players in the roster next season to really make a push, potentially making a run at Marner or Rantanen in the offseason if the cap allows.

Out of the guys listed, buying low on Novak or Maccelli may be the play, or snag Tippett from Philly because wtf are they doing over there.

Utah needs defense badly and I could see them liking Soucy to add some size/depth. With Forbort and D-Petey really stepping up, Soucy is expendable. Maccelli for Soucy + prospect/pick/Hoglander I don't care, snag em. Novak would add to the center depth and either he or Chytil could play winger as they can both pass well.

Troy Terry would be the ultimate get. He has the skill and speed to really thrive here. I'd easily trade a 1st + Lekkerimaki + roster player for him.

Oh look, the flight got delayed again smh.

Tuch is interesting to me, tooo.

what if he only plays ~50 total?

I dont think norris has near that, or Boeser's value.

I agree. If he's a cap dump, that should not command a 1st+.

If he doesn't come back this year, then keep Boeser as an own rental.

I'd rather they re-sign Boeser and use a 1st + mid prospect for Norris.

also hope they try to bring in a secondary piece in Maccelli/Roslovic/Reichel.

I'd rather keep Boeser and deal something else for Norris too, just not a 1st+.

And Juulsen is still on the roster...unreal

They have to bring in a cheap bottom pairing option to replace Soucy.

I've thought about this:

With Norris and Boeser, it probably means Hoglander, Soucy and Lankinen all go. Suter gets re-signed for Hoglander's money and is pushed to LW. The rest is money for supplements.

Tocchet loves Suter. They'll sacrifice the youth of Hoglander to keep Suter, imo.

I also think VAN is better off not having to chase UFAs in this particular class.

Boeser is comparable to Toffoli imo. He’s not a 7 or 8 million dollar player.
He doesn't realize that though, because for a while he was looking like he'd be more.

Would love Buch on the team, sounds like he is falling out favour a bit in STL according to some of their fans

yeah they can definitely do it but i dunno what the point of having norris and boeser on the roster is if you don't have a goalie. i just don't believe demko can be relied on

I mean recency bias and all, but I'm watching DeBrusk this year we just signed for under $6M AAV, and thinking maybe we can replace most of Boeser's goals through free agency.

Does the team re-sign Demko?

If he's being re-signed, then committing $12m+ in goal as insurance is excessive. If they're moving off of him, then Lankinen as a transition goalie makes sense. (I'm keeping Demko)

They have to get above 32nd in xGF. That is untenable with or without Demko. Adding Norris without losing Boeser should help them do that.

Forbort-Hronek has been an awesome pairing and you don't break it up under any circumstances.

Hughes-Soucy
Forbort-Hronek
Pettersson-Myers

Only shuffle the pairs situationally (i.e. Hughes-Hronek if we're trailing late). I don't think this is a tough choice at all honestly.
So basically I like the pairs. Here’s how it will play out. Petterson and Myers only basically would play w each other. The other 4 stem this way. Hughes will have several minutes without Soucy, mostly PP time. Hronek gets PP2 and when it ends Petterson and Myers come out. On PK it will be Forbort/Hronek and Petterson/Myers and coming out of it you play Hughes/Soucy. Never play Forbort with Soucy. If Soucy doesn’t play well, which has been the case a lot lately, we will have to play Myers, Hronek as much as possible with the 3 left D, with Forbort taking a slight back seat. Forbort will be good for PK also if he’s fresh. Also, other situational hockey comes into play, like winning or losing in the third. If we’re behind, we’re rolling w Hughes Hronek. And Petterson Myers. If we’re ahead, we will probably see Soucy not play, and Forbort will get some shifts, especially if Hughes minutes are already high in the game, or high in the first 10 minutes of the third. They will be watching more how someone is playing each night and monitoring how tired they may seem. We should be able to have fresh capable D on the ice, especially to hold a lead. When Hughes is up around 25 minutes and there is still 4 minutes left in the game, that probably not going to be ideal. We need to manage his minutes better. The guy whose minutes are going to be hard to manage are Hronek. i can see him at 25 and Myers at about 22. They might even toss out Forbort on the right side a bit to keep the minutes down. Forbort doesnt play the right side all that well, but to me neither does Soucy. If we get another right D they will play, Soucy will be out. IMO

I don't know exactly who or how it's going to happen but I would be very surprised if the Canucks don't add a top 6 center by the trade deadline...

Ya doesnt seem like a Tocc type
Yknow I hear this a lot but what constitutes as a Tocchet type?

He’s not a Tortorella. Zegras is young, he’s vocal in a good way, and is a great locker room guy and plays with some swagger. By all accounts, Tocchet loves these types of guys and has mentioned a bunch of times how he wants to see guys talk form relationships build comradery etc

I’ve been following Zegras closely for the past year because of his dip in points and he is one of the most snakebitten, PDO’d players in the league. In the games I’ve watched Anaheim, he’s one of those players that is consistently giving all their energy. He’s got a strong work ethic, has really come around defensively and is always first guy on last guy off the ice. He’s the first guy to scrums, always chirping the other team, plays like a pest, is willing to dig pucks and act as the grinder of his line.

His on ice antics earlier in his career made him appear to be some spoiled cocky brat but that’s not the case at all. Tocchet would love Zegras.

I wasn’t even really high on Zegras and you can find posts of me bashing him on the main boards in 2023 but he’s honestly a significantly better player today even with his scoring down than back then when he was actually scoring in a run and gun Eakins coached team.

Not a top 6 guy, but one who would be a great addition Is Jake Evans

fast, (extremely) defensively sound right shooting centre.
strong ES/SH production.
++ PK utility
solid face off guy
wins his fair share of hard minutes (8th highest DZ face offs taken, 11th most wins)
fairly physical

basically a better skating Lindholm who probably costs half as much.
