To me it's not really that important whether Petey's issues are mental or some sort of tendonitis - this is a long stretch now where he's been bad. If he can't at least show a bit of improvement over the next 30 games (which would indicate this injury is chronic and could affect him for years moving forward) I'm not super comfortable having his NTC kick in and severely limiting the team's options. The way things currently stand I suspect he'll be traded at the draft.

I see both EP40 in Vancouver; and Connor Bedard in Chicago are struggling mightily and crossing swords with their local media.

Bedard was a -44 last season; and is -23 this season, and his lackluster defense and faceoff prowess are under the microscope. He really seems to be stagnating in Chi-Town. As for EP40, the less said the better.

So would you do a one-for-one deal to bring Bedard home. EP40 with retention, and even adding in a first or second round pick, or even both?

I say in a heart-beat. But what say you?

that would be a doncic level move by the hawks, and i wouldn't want to get hawks fans mad if i lived there and they knew where i worked.

i say you are a AI program to generate interest and discussion around this team with most of your takes.

This cant be serious
Scoff if you like. But the way things are going in Chicago, they'll be lucky to be a playoff contender by the 2029-30 season. There's no way Bedard lasts in that losing environment until then.

I can easily see him holding out for a trade--maybe even as early has the expiration of his ELC. That's just the way it is for competitive players like Bedard. They can take anything, except for chronic losing.

The Canucks will eventually be facing the same dilemma with Hughes. It's either 'win or else".

Call it AI if you want......but my prediction--there's little chance Bedard ever finishes his career in Chicago.

Allvin has said he’s not injured; he’s gone through some stuff but is not injured

Wasn't Allvin a little more ambiguous then this? I'm going by like 3rd hand, H&B talking about his interview with Sat and Dan, which I'm guessing is what Dhaliwal was talking about?

Sat asked Allvin if Pettersson was injured, straight up. Allvin said he sat a few games in January, but has played every other game.

That doesn't really answer the question, unless there was another interview that Rick had.

Need to find the Kesler Burrows for those spots to compete or were scrapping for playoffs and getting nowhere

Oh right I forgot the window between end of the season til UFA deal open day.

Well, if that's the case then Pete will have a bit more time to figure his shit out.

Does Ferland count? I vaguely recall that there was serious concussion concerns, but I can't remember if it was overlooked by Dimbo or was it a case of our med team screwing up.
i think it could be Benning doing Benning things with that. The insurance companies didn't miss it so the risk has to be really really really f***ing obvious.

Pettersson + (not Hronek lol) for Barzal + Dobson? Is that in the realm of possibility?

I know Dobson doesn't really fit our team right now but like others have said, good backup in case Hughes walks and alternatively we could move him for a top 6 forward if we so choose

So, the theory is, that management, coaching and Pettersson all forgot about an injury that Pettersson was already diagnosed with last year and spoke openly about multiple times? But this injury is also mostly or partly responsible for this 11.6 million dollar play to score at half the rate that he would normally score at.

Like, who knows, maybe Dhaliwal is just wrong. Its not like he necessarily knows. But I don't really like your theory.

It's incorrect to frame Dhaliwal as right or wrong here. He's relaying what he's been told. Drance too has relayed what he has been told. But Drance has been careful in saying he doesn't know. No confirmation. Sat Shah too has relayed he doesn't know. (Explicitly qualified)

Management didn't even think Pettersson was injured at the year end presser.

And remind me, when has management and/or coach openly spoken about Pettersson's injury status within season? With Riccio?

If his injury is acceleration related and Pettersson largely depends upon acceleration, you have your answer.

Fair enough I suspected as much though I really don't remember the details. Thanks for the clarification.

Not really getting the desire for Dobson. I think the defense will look like this moving forward, with Soucy potentially being replaced in the offseason by a random RD like Ceci and Willander in the AHL (no way the team has two rookie defenceman, that's completely unrealistic).

Hughes - Hronek
M. Petterson - Myers
E. Petterson - Soucy

Where are Dobson's minutes going to come from? The 10M that has been suggested would be much better spent on a top 6 forward.

Something definitely has to change.

If it's mental, he need to get support and show improvement. The team just set a precedent where a star player took 10 games away. Maybe something like that is appropriate, with the caveat that he can't just play video games, but get professional help.

If it's physical, he should be resting, not going to 4 Nations.

Just trying to think of best possible packages for Pettersson. I think we've gotta move on.

Power + Cozens seems relative in terms of value to Barzal and Dobson (Barzal's bad contract and Dobsons cap volatility level it a bit but its probably leaning more latter package value wise)

I would be very open to immediately flipping Dobson for a top 6 forward even

I just don't think we need a big ticket, expensive top 4 defenceman at this point. I'm also not sure Petterson will have that kind of value at the draft he still sucks for the next 30 games. Take the best forward we can get and move on.

That top line would get thrown around worse than anything we’ve ever seen before in the history of the NHL

The thing is, what do you project EP40 to be in the coming season and beyond? "Resume" and "proved in the past" are all moot if you don't believe he can ever get back to that level. That is the dilemma.

Basically you have 2 camps:
1) believes he will bounce back, so it doesn't make sense to trade him as you are never getting a 1C back.
2) believes this is who he is going forward, and if he does bounce back it will have to be with another team/city, or not bounce back at all. In that case, you want to trade him before his NTC kicks in and before he lose all value from his play.

What Petey accomplished in the past is great and all, but if there were any signs he would get back to that level, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Unfortunately with his NTC kicking in in 5 months, there isn't much time to observe and evaluate. Management kind of have to make a call soon, or the decision would be made for them. Tough spot.

There was a sign that he would bounce back in November, but he didn't look dominant doing it.

The only real consideration is if Pettersson will not bounce back at all. If you're in that camp, I can understand the desire for trade. If you're not, no timeline, realistic return, or environment change is going to supersede the value in Pettersson re-finding his game here.

It's not WWE? How much does Point Kucherov and all the smaller guys TB had in their primes worry about that shit...just gotta outscore your opponent. Lekk has plenty of runway to get stronger

The issues is foot speed right now and compet/energy...40 has neither of it

Realistically if he can't become a top10-15C were looking a rebuilding in a few years after we place around the playoff bar.......nobody is helping us get what everyone is looking for an elite 1/2C and a fast power forward

If Dobson is available I could 100% get behind a Pettersson and something for Barzal and Dobson deal.

Canucks would still need to add on offense another sniper but a defense of:

Hughes - Dobson
M Pettersson - Hronek
Soucy - Myers
Forbort / E Petterson / Willander / Juulsen / Mancini

... pretty good and Barzal adds even more speed.

Barzal has publicly bashed the attendance so there's a pretty good chance his value isn't what it should be either. Also had injury problems.

Dobson - might have me on that one, so just take out the 2nd and prospect. Would be closer value.
How does Barzal have such a nice shot with those tiny arms ??

Trading for Dobson seems like a big waste of asset management. Our D is pretty good now, we need help in the top 6

i like the idea of Barzal too but he's 38% from the dot the last few yrs and has mostly played RW

With Miller gone who the hell is going to play Top6 C....Chytil is a stretch

If we can keep Pettersson then sure but 1 for 1 seems like a move that just puts us back into a desperation buy scenario to find another C

If it was Dobson (plus Barzal) and we could just relay him or preferably Hronek to BUF for Cozens then i would be all for it

if i was management i would send Petey on a plane to some swiss experts (where Real madrid and all those global superstars go to for medical stuff) to figure out if there is anything wrong or what's wrong and then use that info to figure out the best plan moving forward.
