I wouldn't assume anything positive about our medical staff after everything we've seen over the years including very recent examples like the Mikheyev debacle.

Canucks medical staff:

It seems that, much like our maligned PR department, the medical team's record is not that great to say the least.

was kinda bored so I compiled a list of players from every team and using management’s criteria of targeting U26 guys (with a couple of older players who could also be expendable). Theres a ton of names I left out because I don’t think theres any sort of realistic chance they’re available (Kent Johnson, Robert Thomas, Adrian Kempe, Roope Hintz etc). I didn’t include Crouse types because the criteria is guys who are already top 6 or who have potential to be top 6.

You'd think

But they were wrong

I don't know what a straw man is, but if someone looks it up and explains it I . . . would still not thank them

Doing my bidding is a thankless task
Not were. They ARE wrong according to you. And still are. As is Pettersson who continues to play and play tournament game while dealing with a debilitating injury that would heal if he took time off but refuses.

open EP1 thread tbh imo

Agreed. All of the Pettersson talk is better suited for that thread.

Pettersson has contrasted the medical staff here after the season ended and right after he was cleared to play after his in-season injury. There is misalignment there.

Corrado directly comments on his speed in today's Sekeres and Price hit. Worth a listen.

JFresh posted his post all-star speed drop numbers.

If you're (not you Vanilla, in general) still ignoring said information, it' because you want to ignore it.

I expect that when he goes to the 4Nations, his play will not change. Let's see.

I think Josh Norris should be front and centre in armchair discussions. It seems like they're going to make a play for him.

This is out of medical staff hands

They were wrong in January 2024. Over a year ago. Their ineptitude aggravated the injury and consequences

The medical staff is now irrelevant. The team is chasing a wildcard spot, and EP40 at a shadow of himself is still far better than anything on the farm, so management and coaches will continue to play him even though he was not properly trained, the ongoing season has made it worse, and I would not be surprised to hear that the tendonitis is constantly flaring up and being masked with anti inflammatories/painkillers

One entire offseason off didn't fix it, why would another?

I grew up with Mario Lemieux having to have his teammates tie his skates because he was sick from chemo and had a bad back and he still led the league in points.

The dialogue around Pettersson is insane. If its that much of a problem, then move him tomorrow.

The logic seems to be that Pettersson has no agency in any decision regarding his health and whether to play and/or doesn’t have access to other doctors or medical advice, which isn’t substantiated by anything, really.

We’ve seen lots of top player’s get second opinions on team medical advice when they don’t agree or trust it. Pettersson hasn’t done this.
Our medical team is also very suspect

Followed by an acute addiction to the painkillers leading to an eventual overdose? If you’re creating a dramatic story, why not make a tragic ending as well? lol

Tendonitis takes a full year to recover, I think playing through it for 4 months didn’t help it and most likely made it worse.
Also if he is recovered, recovered from an injury does not mean he is not back to his physical peak.
Have injury -> can’t train properly -> lose muscle -> recover from injury -> back to training -> gain muscle back

You don’t go from recover -> muscles back. Reality doesn’t work that way.

Mario is a f***ing freak, there is no point comparing any player to him because there is no player like him. He came back from retirement during the dead puck era and put up like a 100 points. He literally put up like 200 points smoking cigs between periods. He picked a corner shooting between the legs with the back facing the goalie. Like what are we doing here comparing anyone to him.

Chemo is not tendonitis

The more you try to play through tendonitis the worse it gets

The bad back is more similar. I agree, what Lemieux did was beyond amazing. I remember him missing many games though. So apple's to oranges even if Petey's knee equals* Mario's back

*And it doesn't. Gretzky played for years with a bad back, same as Stevens. Orr's knees ended his career. It is obvious why - and less obvious as well

EP40 was a top 5 player in the league. He was being compared to McDavid not long ago. My god, have the goalposts moved on this player. What even is he now?

And people questioned my associating Pettersson stans with the Benning lemmings.

The player, the doctors, the coach, the gm, the president. They are all wrong but that one interview back in March where Pettersson says he needs time off is all you need to spin this narrative.
Is everyone who disagrees you a lemming?

Mario would put up like 300 points in his prime if he was playing now. The goalposts has never been to the point where anyone would look at EP and say yeah that’s Mario good.
