What the f*** happened?
PeteySD from his relationship with JTM? Maybe he can get his confidence back playing for Sweden in the upcoming tournament. He just looks like a guy who's confidence is shot. Hopefully he can find his sparkle again.
He definitely doesn't want the puck no doubt about it. Hoping some time away from the team maybe is a good thing for him during the 4 nations break. Maybe MP and the new guys bring a bit of different perspective. It's been a tough year so hopefully just needs a reset (unless an injury has popped up but if that's the case then not sure he would go to 4 nations?).He just looks like a guy who's confidence is shot. Hopefully he can find his sparkle again.
The Four Nations should make or break it for him.He just looks like a guy who's confidence is shot. Hopefully he can find his sparkle again.
Tocchet calls EP40 "Petey".Speaking of Peteys
We know know that
M Pettersson is "Petey"
D Pettersson is "Junior"
So do the players on the ice call EP40?
Maybe his knee is bugging him, maybe it’s not. But he definitely looks like he hates playing hockey right now.He just looks like a guy who's confidence is shot. Hopefully he can find his sparkle again.
It would be kind of remarkable / gross negligence if his knee was still bugging him and the team still didn't sit him out for recovery after him playing for like 50% effectiveness for the last year. And we saw that he said out around Christmas for an unrelated upper body injury (if I recall) so its not like the team isn't willing to do this.Maybe his knee is bugging him, maybe it’s not. The team must be playing well if we’re discussing nicknames.Speaking of Peteys

This is how I see it as well. It would be such Canuck luck if that were to happen.( which is why it probably would)- Pettersson started getting tendinitis last year
- played through it during 2nd half and playoffs
- he thought the best action was to rest through the summer and not overly train
-came to camp not in the best shape and of course no leg strength from lack of training ( pissed off Miller)
- cant gain that strength training during the season
- unsure if he is still going through tendinitis
- will need a full off-season of training to get back to where he was
Are we going to be patient enough to let him do that, or are we gonna off-load him and watch him flourish elsewhere.

It's just such a tough spot for the team to be in. It's really a coin flip. As there is also the possibility with Ep40 that this is all a mental thing, as we have seen in the past.
And as outside observers, without all the actual facts, there is really no way to know for sure.
I guess it's a wait and see what management decides to do.
FifyIt would bekind of remarkable/gross negligenceexactly like Canucks medical staff if his knee was still bugging him and the team still didn't sit him out for recovery after him playing for like 50% effectiveness for the last year. Did YOU read the rest of my post, or did you get triggered by that one sentence?Ernie said:oh boy. way to exactly demonstrate the behaviour I'm talking about.
Like did you even read the rest of my post where I talked about his struggles? Or did you get triggered by that one sentence?
If players are anonymously saying they don't want to play in Canada because of the scrutiny, perhaps it's worthy of paying attention to. Pettersson isn't on an island here.
It's not like even highest performing athletes are immune to the pressure - getting the "yips" is a well known phonomenon. Simon Biles is the Michael Jordan of gymnastics, and she completely lost her head at the 2020 Olympics and had to take two years away from competition. Then she once again dominated at the 2024 Olympics.
Obviously Pettersson can't take 2 years away from the game. The only substitute might be playing in a lower pressure market. Which sucks, because we cannot replace him.
If you're right, management better know this. Surely they have data from physical testing that lets them know exactly where the player is and what can/should be done. Its not a confidence thing whatsoever imo with Pettersson. He is as confident and sure of himself as I've seen any player.
This is a physical issue.
He needs a full off-season of proper strength and training to get back to what he has lost over the last year due to the tendinitis.
Pretty plausible sequence of events.- Pettersson started getting tendinitis last year
- played through it during 2nd half and playoffs
- he thought the best action was to rest through the summer and not overly train
-came to camp not in the best shape and of course no leg strength from lack of training ( pissed off Miller)

It also jives with management/Tocc's insistence that there is no injury. There might not actually be anymore, but the impact of the injury (poor offseason training) is obviously lingering.
