There has not been cap inflation like this since the first few years of the cap. Not sure people are ready for a world similar to when Scott Gomez and Chris Drury were getting the equivalent of $14-16 million per year in today’s dollars.
Players of his caliber don't just fall off. He'll return to form. It's shortsighted to look at his play today and think welp! That's who he is now. What do you think a bad season (points) filled with drama and a potential playoff series where he bombs again would do to his value?
Because 2 of those 3 realities are unfolding right in front of you. Do you want to gamble on the 3rd?
11.6 for a 1c is ok, but we don’t currently have a 1c at 11.6This is insane. And yes suddenly 11.6 for a 1C is nothing. Pete's value (and Miller's) has just sky rocketed. Also Hughes must be licking his lips right now. Dude will be pushing 16mill when he resigns LMAO.

I think you would have to go individually to get the best value from each of them.I think it is too late for that much a haul unless it is to a top ten team where the picks might be 22 to 32 and 54 to 64.
I still think it might be better to trade for a young defenseman not yet a regular.
The Devils have two dmen of interest not regulars, Nemec and their first pick of last year, Silayev.
With retention used for Boeser maybe a Miller and Boeser trade.
Those two and Mercer.
They can do that especially with Hischier's injury going LTIR
Not a big win immediately but it does open up cap space now and possibly solidify the defence rebuild for 6 years.
IS there any world where a three player trade is made? JTM, BB and Demko? Now that would be a mega blockbuster.
Carolina? Buffalo? Columbus?
As long as fans don't let the shows sell doom and gloom for not getting instant gratification there could be a silver lining(s) in the future if a build is done properly.
Well the reason the cap is going up is because revenues are going up, so every team has more to spend. A lot of those revenues are also league revenues that will be distributed equally, so poorer markets should be at an advantage.
Don't tighten up on us now Frankie.
I still believe he's a 1C just is struggling. I'd be willing to bet he puts up 100 points again in his career.11.6 for a 1c is ok, but we don’t currently have a 1c at 11.6
Don't tighten up on us now Frankie.
The situation may be beyond repair now. The added cap space will or should increase trade value. Canucks just might have to get the next star players through the 2026 and 2027 draftsThat's a little optimistic. Everyone will have more money to spend. There are 29 teams spending more than $80m this season and I don't think that's going to change a lot.
If Pettersson can get near to his previous form, his contract is going to be an amazing deal. You'd think that there is still significant value to be derived from Miller's contract.
If the Canucks can get Hughes on board, they should seriously consider keeping both players. At the end of the day, both players are right about each other. Pettersson needs to get his shit together, and Miller needs to shut the f*** up. Until both players realize that, the ability for the team to derive trade value from them will be significantly lower than it should be.
I think it more trying to lower unreal expectations, I know many of my ideas have to with young non roster futures if possible and higher mid level vets.I also find it kind of funny how doom and gloom we are with our players but if you read other teams boards, they are very high on Pettersson and Miller despite their struggles.
Main boards would have you think our players are worth nothing but trash.
Boeser's 40 goals aren't sustainable. He does score goals but not so much by sniping anymore and mostly on the PP which Horvat and Kuzmenko did as well, even DeBrusk somewhat.Miller opening up places he wishes to go is a good thing. He is helping instead of hindering. Could be far worse.
If Boeser's term demand lowers his AAV to mid-low 7s or even high 6s, they should re-sign him. Sticking to a 3-4 year max term is a mistake. They have to get to 6 years at least.
The rising cap and the fact that he's pacing 31 goals even now means he is the most efficient option. All while being a good teammate.
Get it done Allvin.
Rarely where a top player is traded is there a home run immediately. There could be a "Neely" out there, young, buried and in a coach's doghouse, but not likely.well........yeah. Our fans flooding the trade boards are probably all deluded into thinking we'll get this massive package for either, but that's not the way economy works. I keep seeing the term 'distressed asset' and for a very good reason. Some people that know economics better than I do seem to be with the same lines of thinking.
Whoever has the highest quality U28 players signed long term is a massive beneficiary here. For everyone else, price of a brick (middling player) just went up.
Comes down to what the split is for Canadian teams in terms of how much they collect in USD vs CAD and the split of their expenses in those currencies.Yep this is a big shadow on the horizon. But again, the shared revenues will be in USD so as that percentage increases it helps Canadian teams. Winnipeg is going to be in tight for sure though.
This is what they will have to compete against to get into the playoffs.
I wondered about that, too. The captain, an assistant captain, and Myers all on the ice, but no one gets the puck. People are also only human, though, and Karlsson's been around a while. Is the dressing room that fractured that the players didn't realize that is was Karlsson's first career goal? It seems as if that is something teammates really are on top off normally.

Just because the cap goes up it doesn't mean the team HAS to spend to the max.
Spending to the max for the last 9/10 years hasn't meant much.
This core, going on 7 years, 8/9 for BB, and one single winning season and one series win in 12 years not counting the covid shut down gift.
i think Friedman also talked about this like 2 weeks ago in his pod, there are already teams telling him that they don't think they will spend more than 100M even if the cap gets past that.Well the reason the cap is going up is because revenues are going up, so every team has more to spend. A lot of those revenues are also league revenues that will be distributed equally, so poorer markets should be at an advantage.

Yes revenue is going up overall from TV deals and new teams being added, but that doesn't change the fact a large portion of the rev is still driven by gate. You won't see teams spend over 100M if their seats are still around 20-40 dollars for the upper bowl and still not selling out. Just doing a quick search, CBJ upperbowl tickets, $11 dollars... Jets upperbowl, $25... Anaheim upperbowl, $23.. NJD upperbowl vs VGK $18.. just go through those teams and the gate revenue for a lot of these teams are just awful.
Recap of Rick Dhaliwal's interview with Halford & Brough.
Canucks
Rutherford’s Interviews
- We’re in week 7 of when the Canucks decided to move Miller and/or Pettersson
- Nothing else matters more than keeping Hughes happy
- Canucks might look completely different after the trade deadline
- Too early to think about Hughes leaving but it’s also not that far away
- Hughes just wants to play on a winning team
- Canucks have plenty of time to turn this around and make it a good environment that will entice Hughes to re-sign
- Not going to get equal value on Miller & Pettersson
Increasing Cap
- Around the league, some thought it was a bold move, some were surprised, and some gave him marks for honest
- Need to bring the temperature down and he ramped it up
- Miller & Pettersson’s agents have turned down offers from Dhaliwal to come on his show
Pettersson & Miller
- Lankinen’s agent was waiting for this information
Boeser
- Teams are being told they are taking calls on both players
- If the offers were better, a deal would have better; especially with Miller
- Teams want the offers to come down and for the Canucks to take a bad contract
- Carolina Hurricanes were pushing Jesperi Kotkaniemi as part of the trade for Miller
- New Jersey Devils would probably try to include Ondrej Palat; Canucks would want Dawson Mercer but the Devils aren’t moving Mercer for Miller
- Some think the Colorado Avalanche are poking around Miller; two years ago Alex Newhook and Bowen Byram were supposed to come to Vancouver for Miller; not sure why the trade fell through
- Would not be surprised if Miller was willing to go to Colorado; Miller camp may be willing to open up more avenues to facilitate a trade
- Guessing Canucks could have some offers on Miller that make them think; a 3rd team may be required to move Miller
- Pettersson will get a better return
- Columbus Blue Jackets have the cap space, young players, and draft pick capital to make a deal for Pettersson; mentions Kent Johnson (although calls him a centre and Johnson doesn’t play centre in the NHL)
- People would be very surprised if the Canucks could get Adam Fantilli or Denton Mateychuk
- Keep an eye on if any Blue Jackets scouts are in Dallas tonight
- Downplays Buffalo Sabres’ Dylan Cozens; mentions how his numbers are lower than Petterssons’
Misc.
- Teams are calling on Boeser; Hurricanes are not done and Dhaliwal wonders about them
- Not looking like he’ll be re-signed
- Respect level for Boeser isn’t there front he organization
- Questions whether ownership will allow the Canucks to trade Boeser if they are in a playoff position
Lankinen
- “Buckle up. The next 5 weeks in Vacouver are going to be incredible.”
- Pettersson, Miller, & will have to make a decision on Lankinen
- Charlie Lindgren’s upcoming contract will be a comparable the Canucks will use for Lankinen
- If the Canucks are far apart at the trade deadline, a trade may be on a table
