So Canucks scouts are at the rangers game today. Always laugh reading these tweets because I can’t remember a time “scouts at x players game” ever lead to a trade
I may be on an island with this one, but I think JR is a shrewd customer for doing this interview right after winning 2 games.
Take the heat off the coach. Take it off his defense. Take it off his GM. Restate what was already known. Increase the potential timeline for a Miller move.
What did he lose? People calling him senile for confirming what already know. Small price.
Ok, now what did he gain? The attention is on him, and not on the organization for prolonging the drama. While at the same time, he obfuscates the timeline of a move after a few wins. The implication being that they can still win in the interim and trading teams lose out on Miller for their respective playoff runs.
This is what a cunning manager does. The shock just has to wear off in order to see it.
I hope you're right. I feel like it's much more likely that this interview pretty significantly changes the Canucks' leverage than simply confirms what's out there.
Allvin's leverage with Miler/Pettersson has always been the threat of not moving them if the right return isn't there. Does Rutherford's coming out and saying "we can't keep both of these guys indefinitely" increase or decrease the credibility of that threat? To me, it's clearly the latter.
And to Rutherford's credit he does refer to the possibility of keeping both players in the interview, but he doesn't get to write the article or dictate what the headline is so that part doesn't get the same play in the media. But that lack of control is part of the decision to sit for the interview in the first place and to me, part of what makes it a questionable decision.
What pisses me off more than anything right now is this - I was f***ing out. I had stopped being invested. I was just numb to it all. And then they had to go and have that start they had last season, and some playoff magic, and they pulled me back in.
Only to do what they've done since I was a little kid...perpetually hurt their fanbase.
Reilly + Minten for JT.
Too bad JT wouldn't waive.
i don't even think it's a number issue, it's a why the f*** are they bringing back the same core that crashes out of the 1st round over and over and over and over and over again issue.Marner is the player I want, but this only happens if Marner gives TOR a number they just can't abide (a la Rantanen).
Outside of that small chance, he's a Leaf imo.
People really forget how apocalyptically terrible Benning and Linden were. This is just noise, it's annoying. What's going on is an implosion of a core Benning built, whoever took over from Benning would have to deal with all the same shit. It's official - JR and Allvin are marginally better than Benning and Linden. At best.
They just can't stay out of the f***ing media and we're going to get massively ripped off because of it.
don't be silly, he was the primary architect behind 3 cup rounds, not as a AGM like Benning. It's official - JR and Allvin are marginally better than Benning and Linden. At best.

who doesn't want to be paid to stay in NYC. You know shit's going down if you see scouts in Winnipeg. So Canucks scouts are at the rangers game today. Always laugh reading these tweets because I can’t remember a time “scouts at x players game” ever lead to a trade
Based on their body of work up to this point, at worst you can say that the JR/Allvin regime has been average. The Benning front office was one of the worst in the entire history of the NHL. This is an insane take. It's official - JR and Allvin are marginally better than Benning and Linden. At best.

He's also been chaotic considering how many trades he did both in Carolina and the Pens.

I think he has his ways and it's chaotic and somewhat ruthless. He's also a dinosaur.
I think this is a really important point. Culture needs to be good to win. You don't have to like everyone but you all have to be pulling in the same direction and supporting each other. And, at the end of the day, my guess is that QH wants to be in a winning culture..
Trading them both is about cutting the dead flesh out so the organization can heal and properly reset its culture. I think they perceive that cultural rot is a greater risk to Quinn Hughes' future with the club than trading away two top-six centers. Which speaks a lot about how bad the problem is that they perceive to exist.
yeah they said that when he took the Pittsburgh job, too. He's experienced and knows how to build an organization. He's also a dinosaur.
On Morgan Reilly, read the Leafs board. Most of them want him gone.

Unfortunately, I feel the same. f*** these two, they've ruined an entire season.I want both Miller and Pettersson gone. Can't win with two babies in the dressing room, who can't put personal problems aside for the sake of the team.
