I don’t know whether to sign or re-sign Boeser, but I know we absolutely cannot let him walk for nothing. This franchise is asset strapped and either needs to tie Boeser up long term, at hopefully a reasonable rate, or get a first and a prospect for him.

I would be hesitant re-signing him long term if Boeser and Petey don’t get some results iver the next ten games. I know, small sample size, but it is what it is.

In order for this team to be better, considering the crap Benning left behind, management has to find a lot of guys to over perform their contract. When the goal is to do that, the hit rate is going to be low so it’s logical for them to make a lot of swings and it’s fine as long as they make sure those mistakes don’t stick.

I wonder if Buffalo is paralyzed because they don’t want to be on another Reinhart trade.
Different GM and different coach.

The Canucks will not be turned around in one year. The swan song for this group was last year.

While chemistry and a good room is vital to a winning culture a losing culture can be devastating, prolonged and infectious lasting beyond 4 or 5 players moving on.

They were handcuffed in winning a Miller trade but that isn't the same with EP until July 1.

Most teams in the league know what the Canucks need so just put it out there with dates, different deadlines.
With the cap increase there will be some teams that will need to spend more and a possible star locked in for years might be very attractive.
By the TDL teams would need around 4 mil in accrued cap space to get him.

To find long term stars the Canucks, I hope go to the well, the draft. I think they have good enough trade assets to make this year and next the only bad seasons. Then the build UP.

if they sign pettersson it also allows them to trade 2 of d-petey, mynio, kuds as they would be blocked.

I would not be surprised for them to trade a defensive prospect not name Willander (and I think they’ll be hesitant to trade younger Petterson) and our 1st rounder in some type of deal.

Yup. Mynio’s value, for instance, should far outpace his draft slot.

Up next,
Boeser.
Rangers might have interest now.
Minnesota certainly will and they have cap room now and a nice asset in Jiricek.

EP they can wait a bit on but hopefully Allvin learned about holding out too long and the negative impact of trading around a NMC.

Well, I guess Hughes, Hronek, MP, Willander, EP2, and Mancini is a decent D-Corps moving forward. With some of the likes of Myers, Soucy and Forbort in the mix.

Don't trust Chytil at the 2C. I wonder if he gets packaged with Hoglander and another 1st to land an actual 2C, maybe someone who is getting a bit overpaid?

I dunno. Stupid lockeroom drama.
The problem with the defense is with Tocchet he keeps putting Juulsen in the lineup. When that happens this team bleeds goals against and then are behind the 8 ball.

If he was on a good contract then he won’t be available. Trades like that would be making a bet.
For sure...but he's not on a good contract and taking him even at a lightly reduced cap hit is a risk. Taking him back at full freight and spending a first and Chytil would be tough value wise IMO.

I wouldn't worry too much about blocking guys that are all 21 and under at this point. We'll still need to fill out the 4/5/6/7/8 spots with affordable depth instead of being forced to spend 1.5-3MM on UFA guys, and I'd rather have lots of young D men competing for spots. Make them force the canucks to make a move to make room once they have cut their teeth in the NHL.

I don’t necessarily agree. Two of those three are still long shots and don’t hold a ton of value. Just hold onto them and hope they improve. As for D Petey he will be competing for a bottom pairing spot and I don’t really see him being blocked as we still aren’t stacked with a lot of D.
Having some depth is a good thing.
