Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | Don’t Incur Vector’s Wrath!

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
be careful what the expections of having alot of cap space. remember the last time a gm did that and blew it on certain guys that wasn't needed.. cough cough jim benning. make no mistake about it this current regime has done it twice in a row now giving out 2-3yr deals and then if the players don't fit they trade them away. that just puts a sour taste for future free agents wanting to come to vancouver no matter what. they rather enjoy no tax and play elsewhere in the states.

The worst thing they could do is pull the JB and have the most middle 6 talent making the most mid range dollars again. They need Marner, Ehlers or Sam Bennet. Adding a mid 30 year old unless they plan to pump and dump, makes little sense.

If they think that adding Roslovic and Mangipane is a good idea at mid range contracts, then others should be traded.

I would like to know what other teams were offering for Myers, Garland and Suter.

Jim Benning used to talk about playing "meaningful games" and "getting playoff experience".

They made the playoffs in his first year then didn't in the next 4. Then got lucky to join a play in and then went another 3 years of no playoffs.

I know the owner is an absolute idiot.

Players came to Van because they had a great season last year and now they have even more needs this off season and have seen what sort of stupidity that is Vancouver organization. Attracting good free agents got harder again.

Van has gone 3-6 since the "break".
Calgary 4-2-2
Stl 6-1-2
Utah 4-4-2

The absolute only thing the management should be doing is working with Hughes and his agent to see what he wants for his future.

If their is any indication he wants to move on then you pull the trigger on him with as much term left as possible.

Anaheim:
Zellwegger
Sennecke
Carlsson

San Jose:
Dickinson
Smith

Sabres:
Power
Tage

Boston:
McAvoy

Ideally you want to use Hughes as an asset to fill 2 needs. A top 4 LD and a 2C or 1RW.

I would love either of the Sharks or Ducks proposals if he is determined to walk.

I think EP40 has been better in his play since he took ownership of the way he has played this year. Since then he has had a little more jump and scored a couple of pp goals and has hit the post. He seems to be talking to media more and I am hoping this continues on as I believe he will come back stronger than ever next year and next year for him begins now.

So much has happened this year since puck drop on the season that I am (almost) hoping they shut down Hughes and drop further in the standings.

need legit top 6 C in the offseason
Miller left a glaring hole and offense has not been the same.

Right now canucks are like rolling with 1 2nd line and 2 third lines and a 4th line.

I still don't see how this team improves the offense this offseason.

There's minimal assets to trade and plenty of other teams have more space than Van.

Other than just blind hope, things won't substantially change next year.
It would have to be a trade that involves Willander and/or high draft picks. Buchnevich? McCann?

The other scenario is Nashville, NYI or Boston going down the rebuild route: Horvat, Zacha, Forsberg?

Mgmt has been speculated to have interest in Zacha in the past.

I think that's someone they target.

Still doesn't address the inability to score though.

They are in tough.

They're the ones that put the pieces together. If the pieces are bad, that's on them. They're at the top of the food chain. Buck stops there. But all Allvin and JR do is blame everyone else.

They haven't fixed anything. At best, they re-arranged some deck chairs. More uncharitably, they're just slowly bleeding out value and turning the team into a zombie bubble club, just kinda there but not having any actual relevance.

The team is going to miss the playoffs. They didn't sell at the deadline. Who are they gonna blame for that?

They bungled this season at every step. No excuses left from them.
i'll be honest here .. i typed that out and deleted that and wasn't really planning to post that.. not sure how my mobile browser messed up.

Probably makes sense to separate Hughes from Hronek moving forward. Hughes basically generates like 1-2 goals per game even with Myers as his partner. Hronek since Hughes has been gone has been pretty good with point production, 9 points in the last 10 games or something?

Make sure Petey and Hughes are on the ice at the same time to maximize the output from them and hope that Hronek can help the other lines generate some offense.

Probably depends on what the final 2 Dmen look like in 25/26. If by some chance it's the 2 kids in D-Petey and Wallinder then absolutely, they need to be broken up as I doubt Myers is the partner you want for Pete.

If it's only 1 of them on the roster, then you can still keep them together if you want.

Hughes - Myers
MP - Hronek
DP - Forbort

I think with that you will see DP- Forbort with like 14-16 minutes a night which is fine. It's not like the bottom paring is offensive inept as well, DPetey has been alright in generating chances.

i think without miller, demko and hughes, we look like a high lottery team some nights.
I mean in the cap world, teams are not generally not equipped to deal with losing that many top players. I think things wouldn't be as bad if both Demko and Hughes are playing. Hell even if just Hughes is around things would be a lot better.

Recap of Frank Seravalli's interview.

Boeser at the TDL
  • As Friday went along, more teams were kicking tires on him
  • Doesn’t know how close any trades ended up getting because he doesn’t think the Canucks felt they got a solid offer
  • Doesn’t believe the rumours about the Canucks and Hurricanes have discussions about a 1st round pick is accurate; according to his sources, the Canucks and Hurricanes didn’t discuss Boeser
  • Ideal situation would have been to flip his return for a replacement but didn’t have anything on the table
  • Many around the league believed that the Canucks and Boeser were going to work out an extension; that has now turned
Carolina Hurricanes
  • Rod Brind’amour feels Mikko Rantanen didn’t give the Hurricanes a chance
  • Everyone is unhappy except the Dallas Stars
  • Brind’amour has a seat at the TDL war room table and isn’t sure how often that happens with other coaches
Tocchet
  • It is peak Vancouver for the fans to try and run him out of town
  • Arguably the best coaching staff in the entire league; at least top-5
  • Why would Tocchet want to remain in Vancouver?
  • If he doesn’t come back, he’ll have 5 different head coaching jobs to choose from
Buffalo Sabres
  • Has never heard Rasmus Dhalin’s name about disgruntled players; also hasn’t heard Tage Thompson
  • Has heard about Owen Power, J.J. Peterka, Dylan Cozens, etc.
Boston Bruins
  • Gives them a B+ for this deadline
  • Gained significant returns and are now able to retool
  • Can bounceback in relatively short order compared to other teams
Florida Panthers
  • Would be curious when the Panthers first learned about Aaron Ekblad’s positive test

but hughes getting keyed on after a lingering injury worries me, especially if we make the playoffs. once he got hurt guys started catching up with him and hitting him. if he is less than 100% it will not be pretty.

i think without Hughes, we are missing like 1-2 goals per game.
Considering he’s a +PPG player you’re probably right. Most teams would struggle without their best player who’s a superstar. That said, this team is probably short two top 6 forwards, and that’s with Boeser in the fold. Allvin and Co are going to have their work cut out for them this offseason. I think this year’s 1st is certainly gone at the draft and probably one of their top prospects.
