Allvin and JR went out and did interviews in January and February with the primary purpose of blaming everything else around them for any of the season's problems.
Yeah I lowkey wonder if the players eventually get tired of this. Tocchet will at least say it's on him to get players to execute the gameplan. It seems like usually Allvin's answer when asked about struggles and roster construction is saying that the players need to be more committed. Usually GM's will say that they also need to be better at their own jobs but I haven't that much from him compared to how often he puts the blame on the players.

i also think he should have to act as my butler for 6 days of my choosing each year, not to include his birthday.
The joke is that John Tavares (John Tavares’ uncle by the same name) is the Wayne Gretzky of lacrosse scoring records, John is also probably a pretty mean lacrosse player but went hockey for obvious reasons

Finding undervalued guys who come cheap, and hoping they provide surplus value. They've been pretty good with this, but it's not likely to yield a top-end player.

Agree with most of your points, but I'll disagree here. They should be doing a *lot* more of this. They've hit on Suter, Joshua, and Sherwood; Missed on Dermott, Sprong, and Desharnais. 50% is not a bad ratio, but they've only been taking 2-3 bets a year - they need to be taking 6 or 7!

The Florida/Vegas approach to taking a whole bunch of upside shots is basically the only thing that could plausibly move the . If Boeser walks they need 3 top 6 forwards! It's an absurdly difficult thing to do.

They never have. For Allvin and JR, they cannot fail. They can only be failed.

Part of the "media" issues here are also on management. They're often the ones fanning the flames of a lot of stories. It's a real crock that Allvin is complaining Boeser had "no value" on deadline day, when every week he's tearing a strip off him and making sure everyone knows that Allvin thinks Boeser sucks.

You're not disagreeing with me. I think they should keep doing it, and take more cheap shots where available. Low risk, little downside.

I'm just saying, the low-hanging fruit is getting picked and it's not likely this method yields a high-end player.

Judging by this deadline, they either DON'T have a good pulse on the market, or they don't care what the market wants/expects. So either those reports are not very well prepared, or are of no value (as management clearly ignores them).

Or maybe they do have a good pulse on the market, and that is why they pre-emptively did damage control on the JTM trade and the (in)actions at TDL?

Well they're gonna do what they want first and/or what the owner wants first even if they do have a good grasp of what the fans want.

They just need to be aware that if they go against what the fans want, and then end up sucking as well, the seat will get very hot very fast.

I think a lot of people that supported the previous regime for years feel scorned and likely aren't willing to be as patient now, and that doesn't even include the portion of the fan base that is so quick to judgment that they already done with this new regime lol.

Vancouver has one of the worst looking cap situations next season. 7th least amount of cap space currently for next season. What makes it the worst is that most, if not all of those teams with less or around the same cap space already most of their top 6 and top 4 D all locked up.

Van has their D locked up and very comparable to the other teams but their top 6 is extremely lacking compared to Dal, Col, Nyr, Tb, Stl, Edm, Nj, Vgk in similar cap situations.

The Canucks aren't spending a ton on their defence and goaltending and should be above average on both.

Aside for the obvious, show-stopping problem up front, Hoglander and Joshua are expected to perform as fringe top six players but obviously that isn't happening. I do think that both players are in a good position to bounce back and provide value though so I'm not overly worried.

I would put the over/under at 25 goals for Lekkerimaki next season. If Pettersson can get his head on straight and the team adds Marner or Ehlers, they could have one of the better forward groups in the league. Ideally they'd add a 2nd line center but that is obviously going to be difficult.

I assume (hope) somebody in the media after the season is over asks them to evaluate themselves.

I'm sure if we tweet Drance or Farhan about it they'll do it, don't think there are any other candidates that would be willing to lol.

Trading 3Petey is hilarious and out of touch.
You don't trade young D who look elite, especially before you have any idea what their ceiling is.

He could end up being Ekholm and you've dumped him for some shitty winger.

Also, the chicken little rhetoric in here is..my God.

There are 32 teams in the league each comprised of 23 personalities, life situations, etc.

There is variability. You don't have to either be winning the cup and betting futures going 'all in' or else selling everything that isn't nailed down.

The stretch run here will be good experience and will help the braintrust assess whom to keep, and whom to play where.

Dealing Soucy makes it clear to me that cap flexibility for next year is being placed at a premium.

We are making the best of the rest of the year and hoping there is something to build on. And I think there will be. I like a lot of what this team has.

And then seeing if we can take some bigger swings and/or relay young/pick assets into prime aged assets.

Let's try showing a little patience.

Further, our team isn't scoring and doesn't have sufficient offensive personnel. But we also have an unsustainably low shooting percentage, and we have gone from a terrible D to it being such a strength that some of our less thoughtful posters are thinking of trading 3Petey.

Further, we have done all of this while relying entirely on a goalie we signed in September.

If I had told you, excluding everything else that has gone wrong, that Demko would at this point have played like 7 good games, Silovs would self destruct, Miller would be traded, and Petey would have a bad year, you would have expected us to look like we did in 2022-2023.

The sky is not falling. We just aren't in ecstasy right now.

I really want to pretend that everyone is always going to have break out seasons or will bounce back.

Canucks are scoring at almost a league worst. I need more than just one new player to swing that vote for a return to one of the better forward groups in the league.

I rather trade our picks before D-Petey, I think he is going to be a very solid top 4D, is young and team control for many more years, and is physical (something we are lacking on the back end). Trading D-Petey could come back and bite us big time if he does end up a young-Edler. If (and that is a big if) we are forced to trade him down the road, he will be infinitely more valuable once he is proven than as a rookie.

Very poor time to trade Junior. He's not going to return much as he's pretty much unknown outside of our fanbase. He's played in 13 games and has 2 assists. He hasn't set the world on fire except to a fanbase starved for prospects as we have all been impressed with his steady play and ability to almost seamlessly jump into the fray. Not so noticeable or spectacular from the outside I'd imagine.

Yeah this seems like Allvin's motto. He's constantly criticizing the players for their professionalism and ability but never close to reflecting on himself. Seems extremely arrogant.

Would love to see the management check in with Buffalo on Tuch this summer and/or check in with St. Louis on Buchnevich.

Unlikely, but Tuch seems a bit tired in Buffalo after being so stoked to go there initially. Contract provides great value next year.

Buch gets a lot of crap from St. Louis fans but has a ton of skill. Big contract kicking in next season though on Buchnevich.

Highly doubt they trade either Willander or D-Petey given this is a group that just had to bring in two top-four defensemen (ie. Hronek and M. Pettersson) via trade because they didn't have any outside of Hughes. I would expect they understand the value of such players at this point. Any other prospect, I think they'd move.

It's entirely possible the Canes originally offered just the 1st for Boeser, but the Canucks likely wanted a roster player (and centre) in return and it turned into KK+1st for Boeser+prospect.
This. It’s been long rumoured this management group covets KK for some reason. Allvin and co. were likely always wanting a “young roster player and 1st”
in return for Boeser.

It's hard to wanna spend money on this franchise. I don't care what people say about being negative and doom and gloom/ownerships viewpoint on how to run a franchise. If the majority of the fan base sees management/ownership as a problem and the on ice product is suffering well that translates to less bums in the seats.

Put it this way. I've been a Canucks fan for better part of 2 decades and I honestly don't wanna spend another cent on this team until we head in the right direction.

Let that speak for itself. Management is a freaking joke and I hope they learn their lesson quick or we're headed for another decade of darkness.
I had plans to take my son to the Hawks game this weekend and decided I just can’t justify spending money on this team. At this point it’s terrible hockey so why even bother? I’ll watch from the sidelines but I’ve found myself watching less and less as the season goes on.

i mean they gave Boeser and his agent a headsup that the demand for his service was low so they do have a good pulse on the market.

they just chose not to do a fire sale.
I thought by "market" it was meant as the fan base? That is how I read the original post.

I'm sure the team has a good handle on the trade market, but it wouldn't fit into the context of them having PR interns scouring social media and preparing reports for management.
