I do not like Doerrie but this is hilarious

This seems excessive but obviously it isn't a bad thing for management to have a good pulse on the market.

They 100% read our boards too lmao.

Who’s Cmac again?

Cmac worked for Sportnet prior, he did Dan Murphy's role before Murph. Google him, I'm sure anybody who watched the Canucks in the 2000s would recognize him.

Judging by this deadline, they either DON'T have a good pulse on the market, or they don't care what the market wants/expects. So either those reports are not very well prepared, or are of no value (as management clearly ignores them).

Or maybe they do have a good pulse on the market, and that is why they pre-emptively did damage control on the JTM trade and the (in)actions at TDL?

i keep thinking about a comment @MS made about how hard it is to shelter two rookie defensemen on a contending roster. it's less about the rhd willander pushing out the lhd d-petey, but moreso that with the way hronek, pettersson, and post-soucy myers have looked, we have a very strong top-4 without needing to bank on a rookie to play one of those roles.

add that forbort has basically been a perfect bottom pairing vet, and that the forward group needs more than a prayer that ehlers will sign here, it feels like the natural starting point to move a young defenseman. doubly so, as you've noted, with guys like mancini, kudryatsev and mynio all fairly close too, and no one aside from lekk comparable up front (if bains and raty are part of the solution... lol)

disagree that d-pete would be at a low in value, i think the "next edler" narrative goes a long way, and there is an absolute shortage of players with this skillset league wide. a team like buffalo, even though they are loaded with young defenseman, should be all over an actual tough 21 year old that wins his minutes. or a team like chicago, where they don't really care what he does in his sophomore year... could someone like nazar be put on the table? two of our three options to get a player of that calibre are named elias pettersson (the other is willander), and if we're talking about selling low, there's one i'd certainly look to trade over the other...

so "d-petey do we really need him?"

I find it really hard to get worked up or interested in next year’s roster yet. Far too early to know anything for certain about the UFA, RFA, and trade market.

However, part of the reason they are giving Junior a prominent role is so they don’t have to ease him in next year. Provides more flexibility in-case Mancini or Willander win a spot out of the line-up.

i mean they gave Boeser and his agent a headsup that the demand for his service was low so they do have a good pulse on the market.

they just chose not to do a fire sale.

Seems like a waste. Especially when you have both Allvin and JR going on media tours to try and deflect any accountability and complain about how the fans perceive the team.

Just work on improving the team.
Sure, but who knows how much or how often they’re reading these daily reports. Sounds like a good resource for management to have to gauge the temperature of the fan base as a whole and not just the standard media articles.

The practice itself seems fine, it’s just a matter of how they’re actually using the information. Doerrie is making this sound like some strange thing, when traditional media is dying and more people are getting their news and opinions from places like Twitter and Reddit.

I agree, gathering this information is standard practice.

Their response to and actioning of the information was to go on a defensive, self-aggrandizing media tour.

I'll predict they resign Boeser and Suter after looking at the market then throw what's left at Granlund after running out of other options. Maybe they flip our 1st, Mynio and Hog/Joshua for McCann as a bonus.

I'm thinking Demko goes to save cash...
Don't think anyone has issues around extending Suter. I think with Brock it really depends on the AAV. Right now he's playing himself to like 6-6.5M AAV.

What response? If there’s a criticism it’s that they don’t respond to anything and just let things fester.
yeah JR only talked once this whole season? Allvin has given interviews when it's expected, if anything people like to shit on him for basically saying nothing with a lot of words.

i don't think there'll be zero movement this offseason but i think there'll be way less than people expect. almost every team has the cap space to reup all their players if they want. the only exceptions are dallas who may have to let some players walk depending on whether seguin is healthy, boston who need to replace basically half their team (altho they might just rebuild) and edmonton who might have to let skinner go if bouchard gets a big extension

there's a few teams like colorado, vegas, st louis, montreal and tampa who have little cap space but also have very little in the way of significant free agents (brock nelson in colorado aside although they can probably keep him if landeskog retires)

the market is really going to be defined by players who want out of their current situations more than by players being squeezed out because teams can't afford to keep them
I do think teams will be careful this offseason. The cap news they got earlier in the year now has to be tempered by the chaos in the economy right now. 26/27 projected cap number may very well be adjusted. So you don’t want to get caught if someone good is due up in 2026.

Somebody actually told me a decent idea, trading petey and our first rounder for barzal, and use the extra cap space on a number two centre and elite Winger.

I think it fits in the cap honestly
Hoping this is satire because we're adding a first rounder in a Petey for Barzal? That's one of the worst proposals I've ever heard sorry. If there's a first, it should be coming from NYI.

Also Barzal is not good at center, he hasn't played their consistently for years. Both players had poor years this year... Barzal at his peak is a PPG playmaking winger. Petey at his peak is a PPG two-way center.

Why would we add a first? Lmao.

It's largely a point-of-sale exercise, probably mainly on tickets and merchandise. It would probably give you a good gauge on jersey and related sales and form a portion of the feedback on inventory. In hockey, unless you were a lunatic, it wouldn't have much bearing on player personnel moves at all. It can also inform granular things like concession planning, and probably gives you a good feedback loop on fan experience and issues with amenities etc.

It sounds like the Canucks may be using it as some sort of media-ego barometer, however, which is stupid.
