I don't think it's only that, but between all the drama surrounding the Canucks this season and the uncertainty of Pettersson's play, I suspect teams were hoping to take advantage. Basically, they were hoping we'd be desperate just to make any sort of move. Hence the lowballs.

If that is the case, good on Allvin not making a trade. It'd worse giving Boeser away for pennies on the dollar after being essentially forced to do that with Miller.

As opposed to getting nothing for him?

So half the reports say they were offered a 1st, half saying they weren't.

My guess is they were offered a 1st but like the original report suggests, there was more to the deal that the Canucks did not like / they weren't offered a 1st straight up.

Or it was conditional like Marchand. Even if it was Carolina's 2025 pick, I'm not exactly going to make a fuss over losing a late 20s pick in a very weak draft.

Sometimes nothing is better than anything.

If we took, say the Toffoli special of a 2nd and 3rd or whatever it was. Allvin is basically telling everyone he'll bend over if you wait him out long enough. It's one thing with the whole Miller debacle, but giving Boeser away would look much worse.

And this assumes we even got a 1st without conditions or GMs tossing it in as part of a bigger package, ala Carolina trying to dump KK on us while insisting on Lekk, Willander or D. Petey being included.

Nothing is more annoying, not you by the way, then people saying people are overreacting about the deadline.

There are multiple reports now saying they could have got a 1st in the last 30 min.

They chose to stick pat and do nothing.

This is nothing more than an absolutely massive organizational failure from top to bottom, there’s no sugarcoat in this whatsoever.

People have every right to be furious about this, it’s a slap in the face to the fans if he walks as a ufa.

And I’ve been pretty quiet about this as a whole, but I have to share my thoughts

I know you well enough to know that! ;)

To clarify, I am upset we chose to do nothing. I would have liked to add a C. But I’m not saying you are but I’m not “fire everyone fly a banner” upset about it.

And none of us were in the room, so I don’t know how much weight I put into every tidbit of information that is likely being fed to the Twittersphere. Tulsky has his own ass to protect and he failed even harder considering the Canes should be going all-in right now.

This management will always let players value fall to zero or negative before trading them. Too many examples now to think other wise. Hoglander last year should of been traded for defensive help and maybe this whole mess of a season doesn't happen with a competent d-core.

I think it's more they give far too long a leash on players. Let's us Hoglander as an example. He had never shown that level until last year. It was a gamble either way, but given our weak prospect pool, moving him to shore up a weakness, especially after letting Zadorov walk was the play.

Likewise, when Petey continued to struggle mightily, I really think they should have seriously explored moving him instead of hoping the room fixed itself.

I agree with all of this but I'm highly doubtful we'll land either of those guys. We'd have to really pony up and overpay.
We kind of have to, if we want to be competitive next season. You can't go into next season with the same forward group that finish this season, we have been one of the lowest scoring team since the new year. If the idea is to compete during the next 2 seasons and hope Hughes extend as a result, you really really need to add at least 2 top 6 F for next season. The overpayment will be painful, but what choice do we have?

Sign one and trade for one, and hope Petey rebound to at least a 70pts player, that's the best strategy going forward now.

Especially when it's been talked about how if he doesn't re-sign with us he'll likely go to Minnesota. Not a lot of teams are going to want to toss out a 1st + for a guy they don't think will re-sign. Even more so when he's a complimentary scorer not an impact one.

I don't know why people think he's going to Minnesota. Is there anything credible at all out there besides people around here thinking that obtaining BC born and Vancouver players is a smart idea somehow?

Been away for the weekend.

If true and prices were not good for Boeser, I get why and would then agree with not selling him.

boeser for 19 games and maybe playoffs is better for this team than a second.

Tough to now reality here though as it seems odd that some players got a haul and others absolutely didn't.

Personally I wished we would have sold him. At this point I'm totally pragmatic and I don't care about the unknowable soft issue things like feelings in the room, but I do care that we will definitely be a weaker team without assets then with them.

Yeah I just don't know that either will sign here, even at an over payment. Marner I say definitely low probability, who knows what Ehlers is thinking. Hopefully though but I wouldn't be surprised with 2 or 3 2nd tier guys and/or a trade of some sort.

So Friedman, Dreger, Seravalli now. All said no first was offered.

But Quads who has no sources and Dhaliwal who only talks to agents said the opposite.

I know who I will believe.
Or another way to look at it: all the national media says no 1st was offered while the local media says otherwise (including Patrick Johnston albeit in a larger deal)

Have any of the local sources actually said that anyone offered a first for just Boeser?

perhaps a conditional first (similar to what Florida paid for Marchand)
Or it could be Dallas’ first in 28 which is like useless this off season
End of the day, the more credible ones are reporting no offer made while the least credible ones are the ones saying there was an offer made.

People want to believe what they want to believe in even when the GM came out and said the offer sucked.

he lives there in the offseason. it's not even like a kelowna/vancouver thing where it's close but not close enough to commute. he could literally live in the same house if he played for the wild. hardly any nhlers spend their offseasons in vancouver (even the ones who grew up here and those who play here)

hughes lives in a similarly close suburb of detroit fwiw

Oh I get why he may want to be there but why on earth would Minnesota be wanting him? Being local shouldn't even remotely be a consideration in most cases, unless there is some reason that player may perform at a higher level there or give a large discount.

I can't imagine Minnesota wanting to doll out a big retirement contract to him when they're trying to open their window. I know I wouldn't. I hear people all the time say stuff like Oh and he's local. It makes no sense from the team side though.

It makes sense for the team if he's willing to sign some kind of a discount, but based on the "discount" he's willing to sign here I'm doubtful. Brock wants to get paid.

oh yeah. i doubt he signs there for the same reason you do. i thought you were asking why boeser would want to go there

i think he signs in columbus or maybe pittsburgh. both teams need wingers and have cap space to spare

Boeser could work in minnesota with the rossi and boldy - pretty good line

This debate over the first rounder offered - someone spill the beans or let it die.

Guerin paid a heavy heavy cap penalty to get rid of what’s their name. He’s not going to be giving out 7 year term to Brock to repeat history

Seems like Satiar Shah was right - the 1st would be burning a hole in their pocket, and so the only way they were going to move Boeser was if they can turn around and flip it for another player. Very impressively short sighted.
Each day they hold on to that pick Quinn Hughes’ rage grows
