Are you are saying the players now feel disrespected by management since they tried to trade away those players. Does a GM failing at his job (trading trafing the top wing and 3c) make the players feel more confident in him?

i agree with what you are saying but there has to be a concession of thought. It would be a little bit of a bitter pill for some potentially but the other side is 2 players willing to leave the team over a disagreement on contracts at year end.

The worst possible scenario is unloading players for next to nothing AND sabotaging the season in the process.

They’re also probably hoping to rebuild in the offseason in a similar fashion to the Caps and try to compete again. We’ll see if they’ll be able pull that off with all the upcoming cap space on July 1.

The jets are a great team, but are starting to establish a pretty solid reputation of losing in the first round. I don't think it's a forgone conclusion the Canucks would be an easy out for them.

The jets classically ride the shit out of Hellebuyck and then he's got nothing left come the playoffs.

They've been out in the first round the last two years in a row, before that they missed. Before that they were the weird covid playoffs and play in series and they still weren't great.

They are the leafs of the west.

The Canucks aren't great. But with Hughes healthy, maybe Demko, if Boeser gives a shit and pettersson continues to shake whatever funk/ injury etc he was dealing with. I'd rather face the Jets in the 1st round.

You are aware playoffs and regular season are two different types of hockey?

It’s pretty clear that ownership hasn’t shifted its mindset—they’re still not interested in selling assets to build for the future. For this team to become a real contender, everything has to go right. Every decision, from signings to first-round picks, needs to hit the mark perfectly.

There’s just no room for error. It doesn’t seem like ownership values having assets as trade currency, which makes building a competitive team tougher.

Honestly, I have a hard time believing this Ownership group can lead us to contender status, but I really hope I’m wrong.

Aquilini is a stupid businessman. A shrewd businessman would have realized that there was no recovery in the mid-late 2010's. He could have saved big bucks by electing for a strip down rebuild while increasing the odds of coming out of that period with a strong prospect pool and cap room to ice a competitive squad for the 2020's.

Instead, this franchise saw poor ticket sales during that period. Many fans grew apathetic. They also have pissed away a ton of money on fired coaches, buyouts and anchor contracts.

The end result is being in hockey purgatory. We aren't good enough to ever fathom being a contender and will never ever be bad enough to land a top pick or do a full rebuild.

Media have a vested interest in finding circuses and advertising the circus to the entire league and we wonder why the term "distressed asset" is used so frequently here? And local media wonders why they are treated so frosty?

The media is here is not tough. Do anything remotely positive, and they're bathed in effusive praise (look at the vibes last year). It's just for over a decade this club has been dysfunctional and can't get out of their own way.

They're a point out of a PO spot and are going to compete hard to get there. Obviously nobody likes how this season has gone, but the stretch run will be a valuable evaluation tool for management and learning experience for the players. You could argue that from a player development standpoint, the last 19 games are as meaningful as playoff games.
