Well Demko was always a question mark.

But if held up, there weren’t many better teams set up.

If they wait that long they will not get the same return.
It will still be good but then he would be a rental, a really good one but still a rental.
The earliest they can resign him is July 1 2026 but they will know long before that. They might want to sell the more dense fans that they haven't talked to him prior to that date but only an idiot would believe that.

IMO In order to absolutely maximize the return and have a really good chance at a couple of star players if to deal before July 1 and before the draft.
What they are selling is that additional year for the team trading for him to get him re-signed, a year of his contract way below his value, the notoriety of his accomplishments and a possible 8 year deal.
Who would trade for that? Not counting the player's impact on the game?

Buffalo if still sucking the hind teet might trade whatever, Dahlin just so he has a new team to play on, SJ if they bomb would deal away their 1rst over all. Chicago, ...any team.

My target would be star players that the team will have for quite awhile. Not just one every two years or so and spread out over 4 or 5 years, compress the drafting into two drafts, this year and next.
Depending on how things are going try for Misa and next McKenna, there will be others in those draft years as well. The thing is after the lottery you know who has #1 and then trades can be developed to assure getting that pick.
Now queue up the no guarantee with a pick hypocrites, the same one's that guarantee Willander or some other prospect is gold.
The team would hardy be different than today except there would be two or maybe three young studs on the roster instead of the 8 or 9 minute guys.

Chytil is pretty decent but one hit away from retirement, stay away from Byram same thing unless there is much more added in a deal including him.

Your list is pretty good for fill ins and solid roster guys to play with kids.

Selfish but understandable position. I think a lot of people share that sentiment.

I don’t have any attachment to the Canucks players that supersedes winning. I really like Boeser, Demko and JT but not enough to move past them for a better chance to win.

Millers gone. Demko, EP116 and BOESER are more than likely done being a core. I think doing whatever you can to make Hughes happy is a really really bad idea.

Is he an amazing player. Yes.
Do we need a player like him to compete? Yes.
Are we gonna do that over the next 2 years? No.

A real shrewd businessman would look at this as an opportunity to help fast track the next core.

Hughes has to be put on the market to fast track the next core and get pics and prospects.

It’s a no brainer at this point.

I think you are overreacting a bit. We have a little time to see what management can do before burning this team down. Hughes isn't a player the Canucks will EVER have again. The focus should be on how Brock is handled, then Demko. Pettersson should be the major trade piece next if they feel he can't turn it around soon or after the offseason. Management can right this ship in a big way if they do these things correctly. If they can't, Hughes will want to leave anyways.

This is weird cause I have been having crazy heart burn lately myself since Christmas and another friend too it was so bad it was giving me breathing issues. Then had surgery on something else completely unrelated Wednesday and now it's gone.

Still need a majority of the core players to be drafted and developed within the organization.

Are Hughes, DPetey, Willander and EP enough of a core to build around?

Not this version of EP. Let’s say DPetey and Willander are absolute studs. We have 3 drafted and developed D players. Amazing but we have zero up front.

Somebody has to go and if EP is dead and Boeser is traded the one who can bring enough back to counterbalance the heavy D is Hughes

Liam Ohgren is a player I think the Canucks would be very interested if they traded Boeser to the Wild. He was there target if Lekk wasn't available at 15 and they traded down. Him and Lekk have played together and their games compliment each other quite well. Another guy I would want is Spacek.

Boeser for Ohgren and Spacek.

Wild are targetting Brock Nelson. They have more pressing need for a C then a winger. Until Brock Nelson resigns with Islanders. that's where wild are focused.. They intend to play Nelson at C and wing
 
brock nelson would be the mid meh-ish player guerin would target.

also guerin is mad at the canucks for not letting him have hughes and everything i have seen from the last couple weeks is he'd absolutely be petty and retaliatory.

also with what we know about guerin who wants to bet he tampered with Nelson at the 4 Nations.
