Obviously there’s some injury context to be mindful of here. We know about the knee tendinitis that he dealt with last season, which may have impacted his offseason preparations, but the star centre is now day-to-day as a result of an additional injury sustained at the 4 Nations tournament.“

“More than the injury context, the Canucks, according to a team source, believe that poor preparation this past offseason is primarily what put Pettersson behind the eight ball.”

“Pettersson remains off the trade block ahead of the NHL trade deadline, but — and this is just the sense I get — that’s not entirely ironclad. If a rival team called with an enticing idea, I’m confident the Canucks would listen.”

I thought Heinen was a capable penalty killer and decent player. He was very vanilla, but I didn’t have much of an issue there. His cap was roughly fair - he just wasn’t much of an impact player for us, where I think we were hoping we were getting a Pius Suter ver. 2.0. Didn’t have anything against the guy - but Canucks wanted someone that moved the needle a bit more. O’Connor seems like he might be able to do that.
wanted him to do well here in vancouver since hes a local boy too. but i guess things didnt work the way it wanted. very baffling alvin gave him two years.

  • There are guys on twitter who’s 9-5 job is to protect Pettersson//

Sportsnet 24/7/365 job is to protect ownership and management

I can't decide who I despise the most - ownership/management's cowardice and incompetence handling this situation, Canucks "medical" staff and their vivisectiony, or the brown-nosing media whose shnozzes are so deeply buried where the sun don't shine

The trade deadline ends at 3 p.m. Eastern time on March 7th. However, that doesn't mean that trades can't be completed. Trades can be done, but the players that are traded aren't able to play for their new team until next season. this rule needs to change.

You can’t have two Hoglanders. One is crazy enough out there.

Why have a "deadline" if you want to let players traded after it play? The rule is perfectly fine as is

People are slowly starting to realize that this team is headed towards two possible futures:

Random signings hoping theirs chemistry and they’re moderately competitive and that convinces Hughes to stay.

Or

Hughes leaving post random UFA signings and the Canucks just being a team of random parts.

Either way theirs no window w this assortment of players any longer. The Canucks are a decent team now and will be for the foreseeable future.

Decent teams are the worst teams to be a fan off. You’re not good enough to compete and you’re not bad enough to hope for a better future. Dark times ahead.
Ahead? Where F have you been for the last decade? We barely scrape out of the Benning cesspool only to find our Vezina level goalie is likely done with injuries, Benning's one big trade success quits on the team in a hissy fit, and one of his only draft wins seems unable to play hockey.

I blame everyone but me. Screw this despicable, half century train of abject failure.

or

Maybe it's all coming together!

I think Heinen was fine. Desharnais definitely sucked.

The big issue this summer wasn’t pro-scouting, which was probably above average, but roster construction which was poor. Allvin and JR wear that.
Totally agree. Also think overall this team doesn’t give crazy money and term to depth guys. Way different than the Benning era.

For every Heinen or Dehanrnais you have a Suter or Sherwood.

Well. They were 6th in goals scored last year … was it so unreasonable to think that would continue?
EP, Hog, and to a degree JT, Brock and Dak ALL turning into pumpkins was not entirely foreseeable

All the PDO nerds were right about last year. Thats really our biggest problem.
And that as many things that went right last year have gone wrong this year.
I dont really fault any individual moves by management. I mean, remember during Benning, how every little move was always F’d up somehow (overpay, giving picks, bad choices…)
Hughes is the only core piece that has been performing (knock wood)
Turning JT, Heinen and Desharnais into Chytll, MPetey, DOC and the NYR D prospect whos name i forget is pretty solid. If DPetey, Willander and Lekk play and take strides next year we could be in decent shape. Im torn but i think we have to sign Brock …we just have too little on the Ws otherwise, and we aint signing Rantanen or trading for replacement….

I have warmed up to the idea of trading for Zegras. He has 2 power play points in the last two years. That is 63 games played and 30 points. He has been injured but even when he plays he is used all over the lineup and he has no confidence. Deployment looks pretty average not being heavily sheltered anymore. Ducks are so bad defensively nobody is really gonna grade out well in there system. I think there are sign that he could improve, get his confidence up, better deployment, more power play production and better teammates. The acquisition cost won’t be very high too.

yes, it is a deep cut, you're better off knowing. just know Hughes had Petey's back versus a weirdo season ticket holder.

I will always have respect for TL16 for having to answer at a STH event Pausers questions and then pulling him aside after to talk further.

God love him but we all know Pauser at times wasn’t the easiest to talk to when he had his mind made up.

That wasn't Chester attacking Pettersson or anything like that. He's probably EPs biggest cheerleader on Twitter.
