If Boeser nets a 1st + A prospect, he should be traded immediately.
With the strength of this draft. Think of a 2nd in this draft the same as a 3rd in most drafts. If you remember Nate Schmidt, Travis Hamonic, Travis McDermott all went for 3rd round picks.I think these are very rose-coloured glasses expectations.
The Boeser price seems about right, based on any number of past comparables.
The rest, though - that seems like wishful thinking. I don't think anyone entertains a 2nd for any of those guys.
Tyler Myers is their second leading scoring since January 1, there's nobody out there that they can reasonably add to increase their offensive production or who's good enough to make that much of a difference, especially playing Tocchet's system.Tocchet is a Jack Adams winner. How dare you question him! Lol.
I doubt you go all in to just make the playoffs.

Joel Edmundson traded last deadline Forbort comparable'ish 3rd and 5th last year.
Wennberg 25 points in 60 games 2nd and conditional 5th to NYR from Seattle. Suter type deal.
SJ Smith and Celebrini
Ana McTavish and Carlsson
5 years time unless some things change, Canucks going to get passed by without even a sniff of anything close to winning.
This franchise got so severely f***ed over by COVID19. They were spiralling out of a playoff spot and had just traded their 1st for Toffoli. Jim Benning would have been totally fired had they missed the playoffs. Instead...the stupid bubble prolonged the misery and f***ed over any chance of a retool.

Soucy probably wants to get out of here if he's not getting consistent play time. No players want to ride the bench or rotate. I think he'll waive his NTC as long as the playing situation and geography makes sense. Don't think he'll limit to just two teams.Sekeres is ignoring the fact that Soucy has trade protection and probably only wants to go one of the Alberta teams.
There are always a few that fall through the cracks but around TDL time, they have a better idea of the prospects for that year. As someone who falls the draft yearly for over a decade, not all drafts are equal.Farhans first sport isn’t even hockey. Smart guy but I don’t take his opinion very seriously.
They say this about every f***ing draft a couple months before said draft. Gems are always available, just gotta dig properly.
The sniff was there, same as the bubble which ended with 3 years of no playoffs again. 90 point pace in the standings might get you in this year, most years doubtful.I mean if strictly talking about the future... maybe five years is a long time.
Having said that, I would already argue last year was a pretty good sniff considering we lost in game 7 of a team that lost in 7 in the final. Like honestly a healthy Brock or Mik actually scoring on that first period breakaway and we could have been in the finals.
I feel you. I have tried to be patient through this whole ordeal as I fell in love with the player the moment he was drafted. His shot, his hustle, his excitement level, his ability to break ankles and his obvious love for the game were all next level.I feel like I’d enjoy watching this team more with zero top 6 C’s than watching whatever it is Pettersson has become. Yesterday was the most visibly digusted I’ve ever been watching a player of our own. At least with Rantanen, you hope he re signs (and reverts back to C as temporary solution) and if he doesn’t we’re just as screwed dealing with Pettersson for another 7 years. Pettersson bounces back but as history has shown it’s only a matter of time before even the tiniest bit of adversity causes him to spiral to this iteration we’ve seen for a year.
I’ve been officially done with Pettersson for awhile now. His lack of accountability, his ego and poor attitude with the media as someone wearing a letter on his crest. His compete level. His ominous rhetorics of “wanting to play for a winning team” or “I want the pressure” then turtling. Having incredible stretches of poor on ice performances over the course of his time here. His soft and uninspiring play. He doesn’t act like a leader. He doesn’t play like a leader. Being the 5th highest paid player being outperformed by a player literallly making $10M less than him. How does an 11.6M player go multiple games without putting up a shot attempt, let alone a shot. Tendinitis (which is an extreme stretch which I’ve never really bought as an excuse) only excuses his overall speed, not his overall game.
Elias Pettersson (you know the one)
- Still an appetite to acquire him around the league
- One source said “This would be the worst time to try and get value for him.”
- Says the best and current course is to hold on to him and if he can’t turn his season around, his name will pop up in trade talks around the draft
This was very well written and captures what most of us feel right now with petey. I still think the smartest thing to do is at least wait until the summer before you decide to move him.I feel like I’d enjoy watching this team more with zero top 6 C’s than watching whatever it is Pettersson has become. It's hard to trust scouts loldrafts are a crapshoot after the first 15 picks anyways. I look at how deep the first 15 picks are and then that’s about it. The only real “deep” drafts in recent memory were in 2023 and 2015 where you could legitimately have 20-25 players end up somewhere in the top 15. 2003 wasn’t really supposed to be a strong draft at all IIRC but it’s top 5 in hindsight.
2017 was stated to be a weak draft and 2019 a strong draft. 2019 is turning out to be one of the worst drafts since the turn of the century and 2017 being in the top 10. Similarly, 2014 was stated to be a weak year and 2016 almost as good as 2015 by some scouts and looking back it’s been the complete opposite.
I think we all did. The hype was crazy. I watched every single SHL game that year and I was just buzzing. His rookie season was the best ever franchise history. Gave so much to look forward to. I gave him a ton of excuses myself but it stopped the moment he stopped trying out there and his compete levels became non existent.I feel you. Watching Pettersson this season is like watching a completely different human being. Whatever the reason, ( open for debate) he has lost ALL the above mentioned traits, while adding petulance, entitlement and lack of accountability.
I have made excuse after excuse for this player all season long and I am done. Take some ownership of yourself and your play. Grow up.
Management has failed to bring in enough top 6 talent.I think we all did. The hype was crazy. I watched every single SHL game that year and I was just buzzing.
