so are we selling now.. friday is tmr. start auditioning off some guys. i wannt keep sherwood. hes fun to watch
Should have done that in the beginning of the season, its too late for that now. i say trading our first round pick to increase our chance at playoffs.

Sherwood is the type that teams that are contenders will pay for handsomely - he leads the league in hits by nearly 100 and is on pace to score 18 goals/33 points in 76 games - can play up and down throughout the lineup and fill a role very nicely.

nope the writing is on the wall. no playoffs. sell nowww starting tmr.
but what is selling now going to accomplish? Not good enough to make the playoffs, but not terrible enough for a high draft pick, it recycles almost every year (last year is a outlier)

People are going to keep on harping on Pettersson like he was expected to get better overnight lmao. We're going to totally trade Pettersson either at the deadline or the draft for pennies on the dollar and look like total f***ing morons when he bounces back next year as we wonder "Wow, Pettersson is having a bounce back season" Like the kid isn't f***ing just 26 years old.
You seem pretty sure Petey will bounce back next season, I wish I have your conviction. He came back last offseason somehow WORSE than the way he ended the 23-24 season, I wouldn't bet money he comes back significantly better for next season.

I really think if the Canucks 'sell' on a number of players at the TDL, it wouldn't weaken the team all that much.

Boeser, Soucy, Forbort, Demko (who hasn't played all season) Suter and Blueger could all be traded without much impact on the on-ice product.

The only guy they might really miss is Boeser--but not the way he's playing right now. And they could easily replace his production next season with a UFA signing.

Time for 'Trader Jim' and Allvin to pull the trigger.

With Utah healthy and surging, they are in real trouble now.

Calgary I don't rate. Their team is just Wolf. But given the current trajectories of these teams, Utah will pass Vancouver in short order, unless something significant changes.

Pettersson to Carolina for Rantanen. Revert Rantanen back to center (hes a natural center) and play him there temporarily until a better C option is available. If he doesnt sign whatever, at least we rid ourselves an 11.6M boat anchor.

Calgary I think will falter down the stretch, Wolf can't play this good this young this soon....right?

Utah, I'm a bit more scared of but they are still a young team that lacks the confidence or the stamina....neither maybe.

Honestly, I think it will be very ugly but we'll either make it by a point or lose it by a point. I hope the former.

Given that we can't even beat the Ducks (who didn't even have their best game), it's fair to say there's a significant probability we miss the playoffs and punt the season.

I imagine as a regrouping team, management sells off the minor bits (Forbort, Soucy) if there's a market, and maybe brokers a retention deal or two. Brock's situation depends on if he can sign for 5-6 years. Can't go in on an own rental and risk it for more negotiation time anymore. Suter might be resigned quickly if Brock is gone. Guys like Blueger and Sherwood won't move. Extended runway for Lekkerimaki and Willander.

Hard part is this summer. Even if Petey recovers from the black magic and we keep Brock, we're still down a top 6 C (tough to trust in Chytil for various reasons) and a top line winger (too risky to bet it all on Lekkerimaki early). Double the holes if both are gone. Is there any jetsam around the league (like PLD last off-season) that can reasonably help us retool before the end of the Hughes contract?

On the bright side, the D core is locked in with term and already looks very good (even before inserting Willander). Feels like a Minnesota Wild situation before they added Kaprizov.

We don't even punt seasons that are over in November or sell while rebuilding. We aren't punting while fighting for a wild card.

What we should do and we will are very different things in Canuck land.

We suck but I think there's a chance to re-tool on the fly because of the cap space and assets.

We got rid of a legit 1st line centre for a bunch of middling parts. Sure, the D looks solid but the offensive depth is horrific. We have no 1st line players. Petey's obviously not Petey but Boeser, who you'd think is a 1st line winger considering he scored 40 last year, is the type of player who needs someone to make a play and get him the puck, which no one can besides Hughes. He needs to go. Same with Hoglander and Myers- they suck.

The good thing is we have cap space. IMO make a big effort to land Marner, Rantanen, or Ehlers. I would also dangle Willander, Lek, and the 1st for a legit top 6.

I always thought that Utah would be challenging for a playoff spot. But they uncharacteristically struggled in the first half the season.

But you look at the team on paper--they've got a lot of pieces. And they brought in Sergachev and Marino to stabilize the back-end.

Now only two points back of Vancouver, I think they probably make it. And Calgary and Vancouver 'miss'. Too many times this season the Canucks have led or been tied entering the third period, and just let too many points slip away. And their 5-11 record on OT, is the stuff of 'lottery teams'.

Becoming more obvious by the game, that while the 'playoffs' still mean a lot to the players--for the overall future of the franchise, drafting some younger assets with size and speed, is far more important in the long-run.
