Ehh. I mean he's getting top playing time and PP1 in the AHL. I say let him cook. I fully expect him to be up full time next year. Still has to add some size this offseason.

Lekkerimaki has big boom/bust potential. He needs to grow into a more rounded player to become an impact NHLer. He should marinate longer than your average NHL prospect unless he's kicking the door down.

Because their income window is short, you don’t want to blow the money you earn in a short period of time.

I haven’t been talking about NHLers just people with high earning jobs. To clarify bc now I’m unsure what you mean by short income window.

The solution to the lack of cap is to LTIR Demko or trade Demko and sign a good, but not elite goal as a back up.

Somebody like Talbot. Frees up 3Mish and now you have 17 M for wingers. Assume Bennett is one for 7 and you have 10 M for somebody.

Jake-EP-Boeser
Bennett - Chytil - Sherwood
Dak - Suter - Garland
DOC - Teddy - Raty

That 2C needs a serious upgrade.

For once, we're in agreement. Trading Garland just doesn't make any sense to me. Much like Suter, we don't have any prospects remotely able to fill the grindy, versatile minutes they're able to while also being a legitimate second line option.

It sucks, but Demko is likely the cap causality we have to let go. Barring a miraculous turnaround, we're essentially spending 5M on a backup who can barely string together ten games without injuring himself.

Isn’t Lekkerimaki considered a very responsible player?

When healthy Demko is clearly not a backup. His ceiling, as he’s proven, is elite. Very doubtful we trade him.

Obviously. He's arguably a top five goalie in the league when at his best if not top three. Unfortunately, it's looking less and less likely his body will ever allow him to be that good again. At least for any length of time.

Would Buffalo do a Cozens for Boeser (with extension) swap plus/minus whatever.
Cozens has a pretty big contract that was based on what he might become and not on what he’s proven to be. He’s a pretty big risk.
I think, if Boeser is moved, it’s for a first + and then Allvin uses that capital to get the guy he prefers. IMO Cozens isn’t the type of player (when considering his contract and potential offensive ceiling) Allvin would want.

Would you say scoring at a 50g, 70pt pace as a 20 year old in your first full AHL season is kicking down the door, or no?

Lekkerimaki could score 100 points in the AHL and I still don't know if one could call him a sure bet in the NHL. The NHL game is that much faster, stronger, and skilled than the AHL game. Plenty of AHL all-stars who whiffed at the NHL.

To be a scorer in the NHL I don't really think there is such a thing as kicking down the door in the AHL. The only way is to seize the opportunity when you get your NHL games. You can either score at the NHL level—or you can't. And the ones who can usually make it very clear very quickly.

The path through the AHL tends to be more if you are a player that needs to make the NHL by being an X's and O's player who can do the proverbial little things right. Those players tend to not be scorers though.
