flat d+1 development curve is an easy hazard to avoid IMO.O'Reilly isn't that good a prospect. You're underselling the return on Boeser.

I feel like I’d enjoy watching this team more with zero top 6 C’s than watching whatever it is Pettersson has become. Yesterday was the most visibly digusted I’ve ever been watching a player of our own. At least with Rantanen, you hope he re signs (and reverts back to C as temporary solution) and if he doesn’t we’re just as screwed dealing with Pettersson for another 7 years. Pettersson bounces back but as history has shown it’s only a matter of time before even the tiniest bit of adversity causes him to spiral to this iteration we’ve seen for a year.We then go from having 2C to zero, with no assets to acquire any. An abundance of cap space is lovely and all, but we need actual good players to spend it on. There are precisely two in FA who might be available and your hypothesis says one walks away for nothing.
At this point, we pretty much have to gamble Pettersson can turn things around. Trading him for quite literally nothing means good bye Hughes.

J.T. Miller reportedly shut down blockbuster deal before returning to New York

Caught this on the main board.
Possibly but if we need a cheap 3C in the future and Raty isn't the one we need it would be a decent return. Maybe a pick added to the trade to us.O'Reilly isn't that good a prospect. You're underselling the return on Boeser.

I don't think we get a blue chip prospect.
I think Brock could get 50M on the open market, but I think 40M is more than enough from us specifically.
We shouldn't budge on this. Trade him if he doesn't want it.
So Boeser is worth more?Where do people get this 1st + when Grandlund and Ceci went for a 1st and 4th?
They should add a year.
If he still doesn't take it, then it's an even decision to trade him.
Wonder if they were going to flip us Necas? or it was going to be a futures trade like Ritchie + 2x 2R + Drury.![]()

I understand that. I am extremely concerned about our C depth moving forward so its what I hope management targets in the trade. The typical haul for Boeser should be a 1st + good prospect. I don't view O'Reilly as a good enough prospect.
Yes I saw this and forgot to post about it: He blocked COL as an option.
Kesler situation looms large.
it's not just going to flounder. it's going to regress and there could be a rush to the exits.Until the Pettersson situation is sorted out, the team will flounder.
Necas feels like too much but then again I don’t think they would have gotten much more for Rantanen as a rental than the Canucks did for Miller.Wonder if they were going to flip us Necas? or it was going to be a futures trade like Ritchie + 2x 2R + Drury.
Yes but that is a window. Those teams have until those players locked in until they are 26 yrs old to build a contender. IF they end up being the only one or two stars of the team's then ya they likely walk. Or they could end up being like Crosby, Malkin, Kane, Toews, Drasitl, McDavid, Kopitar, Doughty, Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman, etc...This is quite the story.
Regardless, Bedard and Macklin can walk in 5 + and 6 + years respectively.
i think from a negotiation perspective, make sense to lead with 5 and then try to settle on 6. I think it would be insulting if they went with 4 lolI suspect the Canucks will go to 6 years, and then Boeser is just weighing 6 with Vancouver vs. maybe someone offering up 7 on the open market.
Personally, I think if the Canucks go to 6, it gets done. And I can live with that. We're talking about a $1.25M AAV increase during a rising cap environment for a guy who's dependably put up 25-30 goals while also being a good dressing room guy and playoff performer. And I just don't see how we replace that without spending either the exact same or more on someone else in free agency, especially not on one who's not a fair bit older than Brock, who's still just 28.
I think it's a bit easy to dismiss him right now with pretty much the whole team underachieving offensively, but I think it'd be something we'd regret if we let him walk.
Yes, please. Give me J.J.
