Just so I'm clear.

You think Lindholm is a better player than EP40?

Or you just think his contract will age better?

Either way, this is the clownest of clown takes inspired entirely by some weird emotional vendetta and I won't be forgetting this take by you.

Curious, do you think there is a single NHL GM who would trade EP40 for Lindholm's aging legs and bad contract?

Or is this a Dunning-Kreuger situation where they wouldn't because they're not as tapped in as you are?
Neither. I am saying right now their value contracts included isn’t as far apart as people think.

People think Lindholm at his CAP is total trash. Unmovable.

EP116 isn’t a great assset right now either. It’s not that far apart

Lindholms aging legs? What about Swiss cheese knees Petey?

So saying a hot take, being asked to stand by it and backing off it and then saying some mealy mouthed immeasurable thing like, 'it's not that far apart right now'.

Because you know that your initial take would age like milk in an undeniable way, even to you, very quickly and there's some part of your brain fighting through the vitriol and need for attention that wants to maintain a modicum of credibility?

Hockey Writers site with a nice write-up on Drew O'Connor's trip to Vancouver, after finding out about the trade at 11 p.m. in Pittsburgh and climbing on a plane at the crack of dawn.

What got my attention was O'Connor's effusive praise of the Canuck dressing-room and how upbeat and welcoming everyone has been. Said he obviously had no idea of what had gone on in the past; but that as of today, it's a great group of guys with a great attitude.

I suppose every incoming player usually says the same thing. But from the sounds of things, the 'room' is light-years better than it was before the Miller trade.

To reiterate—that the Ottawa Senators are making such a player available should set off alarm bells.

Some of us have lost our ability to critically think. Why would they be so ready to get rid of a player that profiles like that?

The frequency of his shoulder surgeries sure make it seem like there is an inherent deficiency there that cannot be avoided with better training or physio.

If it could be mitigated—the Sens wouldn’t be jettisoning a relatively young right shot center who can produce and be defensively reliable.

Nobody is saying don't check and see if it's a false alarm but GMs make bad or even stupid moves all the time. If the Senators are making Norris available I'm not alarmed that he is available. But I'm not saying we trade for him without doing some DD on his shoulder condition and latest injury.

A lot of it is derisking. If the Senators feel that they can't trust Norris to stay healthy then they might think of getting out from underneath his contract.

There was a time when not qualifying a former high draft pick NHL contributor was almost unthinkable. But these days it's become a common occurrence. Like Nils Lundkvist was not given a qualifying offer last summer.

He could fill in as a 60-80 point 2C
60-80 points is 1C production.

This downgrade in personnel has shut our window.
Canucks are in a playoff spot despite Pettersson's drop off and team injuries/drama/ancient Indian burial ground curse.

I’d send him to Jersey but really what can we get from them? Nico ++?
New jersey isn't trading Hischier.

We’re entering Flames territory w Hughes. How long do you want to stay there?

I have no idea the connection you're trying to make here.

Lindholm and his contract is actually better than EP116

You've had some hilariously bad takes and trade proposals in the past, but this is a new high (or low) congrats.

absolutely no shot that lindholms contract is better than peteys, and im not so high on petey rn either.

guy is actually cooked and hes signed for eternity for a decently big hit. just does nothing on the ice anymore.

thank god ruthervan didn't sign him

Yes I am on an island but I am big on drafting, developing and moving players that don’t align w the actual window of the team.

EP is finished as a 1C. He could fill in as a 60-80 point 2C for the remainder of his contract but that’s his upside right now. Bad value. This downgrade in personnel has shut our window.

Because we lack the ability to contend Hughes would be smart to walk. I don’t know if he will but theirs no value in watching a superstar waste his career on a team.

San Jose or Chicago are the teams I would target.

Lev + Nazar

Smith + Dicksonson

Both of those trade the future of the team from a single asset.

Is Barkov a 2c? How many 1c’s in the league are exceeding 80 points?

Right now 19 NHL.com needs to do a better job of it. Necas not a center. Guentzal not a center.

McJesus 1.70 to .85 1lc production .85 to .65 2lc production .65 to .50 3lc production

I hear this all the time, it truth is we didn’t have the assets the kings had. We didn’t have a great prospect to send. Our top prospect was a goalie, and most teams don’t value them as high as a top centre or Dman.

While we may not of been willing, I also don’t think we had the assets to do it.

CBJ were rumored to be interested in Schneider and we also had Cody Hodgson.

We had the pieces but prioritized not selling the future for the present.

Then, when the Sedins declined, the future sucked anyways (as it does when your HHOF calibre guys get old or leave).

(BTW, I want to unload our 1st to get Zegras)

Who did we have that could have been the Jack Johnson of the deal?

Havlat was a hell of a player. Had a sneaky nasty streak too. To this day I believe the Sens were robbed of a Cup in 04-05. Little me did well in school that year. Made a lot of friends who were just as pissed about the lockout. Also was a fairly quick reader and ADHD af yoyo Grades? Eh, but grades aren't the *only* reason you go to school.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what the first half of this has to do with the second half

Well it’s a story, so it has nothing to do with anything but everything to do with everything. If you catch my drift. Life’s a poem, just dying to be read for meaning. The older I get, the better a reader I become.

Do you like tarot cards?

Would be nice sort of deal for sure but NJ probably want some sort of assuredness that he re signs.

there are many who are down on Zegras but he's exactly the type of player management probably is looking for. He won't be cheap though.
This struck me - what is the correlation between zegras' traits and exactly type of player mgmt is looking for

This is looking guardianesque.

I mean with how much 11.6 is disappointing you would you make those deals from sjs or chi point of view? And why?

Your critique and ideas dont match

Rumored doesn’t mean shit if they never made a concrete offer

You are in the deep end man. All alone and you can't swim.

As bad as EP40 has been this year, he would still return an 'Eichel like' return based on his talent and pedigree.
Lindholm is an aging and negative value asset on his twilight retirement contract.
Comparing the two just shows how out of touch you are on the subject.

Wonder if Zegres could be had for cheap. A couple 60+ points seasons. Regressed this year but still super young.

Canucks need more top 6 scoring. Could they possibly get Zegres with assets for Boeser?
Zegras is a good shout. No way they would do a Boeser swap. They want prospects, it'll be Mynio or KK going the other way. Maybe you can convince them to take less (picks) since he's making 5.75M and it's not like Ducks are contending.

that suggests to me that it's the wrong time to make a big one.

Yup, you know, it's much like our defence. We were against the cap with a number of obstacles like Myers $6 mil, distressed market, lack of prospects, OEL hit, Poolman, and no cap space. It took awhile to maneuver and find the right player(s) but we finally have found a fit and theoretically have most of the D covered for years and years. We should hopefully have Hughes, Hronek, and MPetterson for the next 6 years minimum. Add EPetterson and Willander and that's 5 out of 6 dmen covered for the next half decade at least. Also what a relief we have MPetterson instead of Zadorov. That's the value with being patient.

There is simply no reason in hell to make an impatient move just to bring in a center when we have 4 already. Wait until we can make a move on a player who fits our timeline and can possibly be an impact guy. Absolutely no need wasting cap space the next 3 years and cap blocking ourselves. Start looking now but wait for the right deal. We have 2 years until Hughes is up for renewal. Anytime between now and the 27/28 season is possible. Also gives us more chance to evaluate Chytil. How soon depends on if they think they need an upgrade on Chytil. Maybe go with Chytil, draft a center and stock up on good wingers.

To be fair, I am not even advocating Norris, necessarily. Its a huge risk. And I don't like the idea of LTIR anyway. I just made the point that there is at least a possibility of LTIRetiring Norris , if the injuries continue and are significant, which would be a far better outcome than having Lindholm score 30-40 points as your third line centre for the next 6 years at around 8 million dollars per year.

Exactly. Lindholm is a known mediocre player now who is going to continue being mediocre downgrading to poor in his contract. With a player like Norris you're definitely and very obviously hoping he is able to produce seasons of 30 or 40 goals and realize the potential of his prime, a 2nd line center who scores, being far higher than Lindholm's rolling to retirement potential. Lindholm is definitely a 3rd line center and that's super wasteful at $8 mil in a cap world. You're better off with a 3rd line checker making less than half that.

Well the value of being patient here is that we gave up the value of most likely a top 15 pick.

If we go back to June of last year and asked Canucks fans who would they rather have… sign Zadorov at 6x$5M AAV or trade an expected mid-1st round pick for M-Petey and sign him for 6x$5.5M, I think the majority would pick Zadorov.

Yeah, they're just fans who didn't know better. Good thing management had excellent pro scouting and better sense. To be honest I would have been very tentative about the first myself, but Petterson is even better than I had thought. Admittedly it was costly but it was necessary to ensure we secured him. I'm hopefully confident they're not going to waste assets on short term mediocrity in the near future.
