Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | 4 Nations Break Edition

We do have the assets (Lekkerimaki, Willander, Raty, Kudryavtsev, Mynio, EP25, 2025 rd 1 pick, 2026 rd 1 pick, 2027 rd 1 pick) to trade for an impact forward, whether we want to give them up or is the question. As for Bertuzzi and Teravainen, if we're trying to get faster, they're a step in the wrong direction:

Personally I'm not too fussed up about speed when it comes to top six production. Production beats speed everytime. Speed is great but skating fast doesn't win you games. Putting the puck in the net does. Both Bertuzzi and Tervainen can be top six staples for the next couple of years if we go down this path... probably doesn't come at a high cost either.

A guy like Toffoli is not fast but yet consistently produces everywhere he goes. Not saying Bertuzzi is that caliber of a player but he goes to the hard nosed areas, guts of the ice, they say. Also like his bite and physicality and has 14 points in 14 games in the playoffs. Tervainen is a phenomenal playmaker that works well skilled players - think he'd be a great linemate for Chytil.

Goals for management;

Move EP for a young player w low cap.

Move Demko.

Move on from Boeser.

Package Lekk for a winger w size.

Thatd be a good idea. Wonder what the cost is. Probably something like:

To Vancouver : McDavid, 2026 5th

To Edmonton: Lekkerimaki, 2025 1st, Hoglander, Soucy, 2029 3rd, Kunz, 2026 6th

Then rock:

Debrusk Pettersson Sherwood
McDavid Chytil Brock Boeser
Joshua Suter Garland
OConnor Blueger Aman/Karlsson
Completely objective and neutral hockey trade!

Drance getting the Brayden Schenn Canucks trade target thing going on the show today.

I don't hate the idea, but depends on the price. He's not a premium asset anymore. If we're looking at an older top six C solution, I think O'Reilly would be preferable (albeit more expensive).

Schenn may be more predisposed to coming to Vancouver, given Luke enjoyed his time here.

Hell, maybe we acquire both Brayden and Luke at the deadline.

Would love to acquire Brayden Schenn, but he's not someone I'd like the Canucks to give up premium assets to get since he's 33 and his play could fall off a cliff any time. He's still got three years left on his deal after this one so they'd really be rolling the dice on hoping he can maintain his effectiveness into his mid 30s.

lol no, but consistently hilarious so thanks for that!
Habs fans have been proposing that for like 5 years man

No. We're already overloaded in terms of 25-30 ES point middle-6 utility players (Suter, Blueger, Joshua, O'Connor, Sherwood).

If we're moving our 1st it needs to be for a legit top-6 C or a legit scoring winger threat.
Right hand shot, >50% face off winner, their #1 PKer.

I could totally see them going for him if Suter goes.

If Carolina wants to trade Rantanen at the deadline, I wonder if Boeser + 1st gets it done...
If Colorado traded Rantanen because they couldn't extend him and Carolina wants to trade him because they can't extend him, I'd just as soon not have the Canucks give much for what would probably be the sole right to be the third team unable to extend him.

I'd be all over it personally, but the cost would be high.

Sorry but why in the hell would we be interested in Jake Evans?

We have a Jake Evans... his name is Pius Suter.

Agreed.

Hoglander and a 2nd round pick. Nothing more I would offer.

O’Reilly is much better player and can play the matchup role. Plus the contract is such a plus. A line of Joshua-O’Reilly-Garland would be such a good shutdown line. Grab Nyquist while you’re at it too.

Edit: Like the Sabres, Blues and a couple of other teams I have no clue what the Predators are doing. I don’t think O’Reilly is available but who knows.

Pavel Buchnevich should be a name that we should be hounding the STL GM for.

They might be looking to do a soft rebuild - Buchnevich just signed a $50M extension and they might be looking to get rid of him if they are pivoting. Buchnevich is turning 30 in a couple months and his next best years are going to be wasted in STL. His current modified NTC becomes a full NTC when the extension kicks in next year.

Canucks are a team that should flex their cap space and willingness to spend here. Would be a great way to get Buchnevich for relatively cheap. Buch is a two way top six forward that would fit in with Tocch's system (not a one dimensional offensive F). The contract isn't great, but with the rising cap, $8M for a top six forward isn't going to be out-of-line.... think it would be a discount to get him as he's on a down year and turning 30 soon. A first and a roster player like Hoglander is probably not far off.

Looks like Petey will play with Kempe and Forsberg at 4 nations.

Interested to see their chemistry there.

Have to wonder about Nashville and what they will do, at this point they have to rebuild. Forsberg has a NMC, but once named Pettersson as an ideal linemate

I have a few issues with moving on from Boeser, chief among them is we have no heir apparent waiting in the wings who can bring what he brings, and it seems unlikely we'd net such a person in a trade for him, either. He's a good character guy who's proven himself to be a good performer in the playoffs, and he may not be a consistent 40-goal/70+ point guy, but he's regularly contributed in that 25-30 goal, 50-60 point range.
And I want to see how he plays with Chytil and O'Connor. They hustle and make plays and Brock can be the finisher, I hope.
