Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | 4 Nations Break Edition

well that's news.
I have sort of assumed early on that the team narrowed in on Miller being the biggest issue very early on. I'm not sure Pettersson was ever really on the market beyond a "I wonder if someone will give us a crap load for this player" type of way. Which of course most every player is in that category.

Play wise while his offense has obviously been a struggle his defensive play has remained and perhaps has even improved. I think you stick with him to see if you can get him to a 80ish point Selke level center (Barkov-esque).

I have a few issues with moving on from Boeser, chief among them is we have no heir apparent waiting in the wings who can bring what he brings, and it seems unlikely we'd net such a person in a trade for him, either. He's a good character guy who's proven himself to be a good performer in the playoffs, and he may not be a consistent 40-goal/70+ point guy, but he's regularly contributed in that 25-30 goal, 50-60 point range.

I echo such sentiment.

Given the amount of ordeals he had to face outside of the rink, I hope the team can show a little more leeway when it comes to negotiations, and that Boeser's side can reciprocate the gesture.

I don't think we should be in the market for pure rentals, we are not a true contender this season and it wouldn't be wise to spend asset like we are one. Nelson as a target is purely based on the assumption that he signs a reasonable extension, no guarantee there.

I think ROR will still be effective going forward. He can't drive a line anymore but put him with Garland and there is the making of a very effective line. He also plays a game that I think can excel under Tocchet's system.

But definitely the dream scenario is Thomas or Johnston. Maybe swap Boeser for Sillinger if you think Sillinger has the offensive potential to be a 2C? I doubt Zegras is a Tocchet type player, but he does have the skillset to provide the offense that we badly need. Frost would've been another good target but the Flames snatched him already.
I agree on pure rentals, but there is something to be said for targeting guys on expiring contracts that they intend on extending as they just did with Marcus Pettersson.

Evans checks a ton of boxes, and if Montreal isn't going to extend him, he'd be a good add for us. He won't be cheap, but he'd be a good long term fit in Vancouver.

Doesn't Evans project more as a bottom 6 player? I think we are ok there, unless Suter walks. I rather spend the asset for top 6 help.

Even if Suter walks, this management team seems capable on unearthing gems for the bottom 6, top 6 skill is a little harder to come by.

Boeser is a no brainer re sign. Your not gonna get a better deal in free agency for as good a scorer. Just cant go more than 6 yrs. That is the line in the sand. Give him what is market for 6ys and get on with it.

Way bigger issue issue is finding a top6 match up C than wasting assets trying to get an upgrade on Brock. Unless you can use Brock to get that C and replace him with Lekkerimaki long term. That's a different discussion and one i would entertain

Jake Evans is a Benning type target. 29yr old 30 pt player having a spike year about to get paid from a bottom feeder......no thanks would rather deploy what we have

We need a quality 2C or one that has the capacity to grow into it

UFAs - Bennett Tavares Nelson Duchene - All are very unlikely to sign here

Trade - Cozens Mercer Sillinger are the 3 i would use Boeser to get if you could

I do wonder about Noah Ostlund who is sort of getting buried in Buffalo with Helenius Kulich and the guys they already have at C. Krebs also as a stop gap if he could be had for cheap. Soucy for Krebs in the off season type deal

After all these years I am still astonished by how well Dimbo's name fits into so many analogies (I don't know, is this even called analogy? Englishing iz hard). The man's going down on Canucks history with truly monumental infamy.

If philly wanna rebuild what would it take for us to land Travis Konecny ? Not biggest dude, but Say Lettermaki and a 2nd ? He's 8.7 x 8 which we with our cap space can take in.

You know what would be really funny? I wanted Konecny over Boeser in the 2015 draft. There's basically no deal to be made there with those two, but that would have me in stitches.

Yeah, we need some sort of other guy who can put the puck in the net fairly regularly.
I think adding an impact play-driver to DOC-Chytil should be priority number 1, and there are several on the UFA market this year + we have some younger assets we can move without sending a cap dump the other way.

Play-driver is key though, and preferably someone that skates well. No complementary scorers or slugs.

i get the feeling that the Flames will pry Cozens and Byram.

Something around Coronato Weegar/Andersson Frost/Farabee
why would they want to downgrade on both? Weegar and Anderson are both way better than Byram and Cozens is massively overpaid (2x) for what he brings.
