I had a feeling that Bahl was gonna be included. IDK why but that's not a bad deal. As for tanking, Calgary should try to get rid of Coleman while he is coming off a career year.

Yeah, he's a good sell high candidate.

Methinks the Flames will also hold some more of their expiring guys until deadline time next season. Mangiapane and Kuzmenko could fetch good returns as rentals.

Calgary isn't tanking. They burned the relationship with Markstrom and have confidence in Wolf. All their trades last season focused on players who were ready to step into the line-up. They have too many older players on long-term contracts too. They'll try to be a mushy-middle team with hopes that someone breaks out and there are the right mix of veterans around them to be Islanders-esque.

I guess I figured Bahl would be included because Calgary doesn't have a left handed D anymore other than Joel Hanley. Good looking right side still though.

The worry about the Pacific is teams are stacking up for the future big time and Van's prospect pool is shaky, lack of picks, lack of real cap space meaning unable to sign everyone they should to get better.

They should but Murray Edwards is, apparently, adamantly against any sort of tank job. Guess he wants to do an Aquilini impression. Maybe in nine years he'll learn how that turned out.

Pretty nice deal for NJ, who solve their most glaring weakness.

Okay. This makes the trade much better for the Devils. Was thinking the Flames kind of got away with a lot.

Pretty nice return on a goalie who turns 35 mid-season.

Bahl is a solid young defensive defender.
Bah is a really interesting young player and had pretty good defensive metrics last season.

NJ has really poor LD depth, and now they desperately need another defensive defenseman that can PK and preferably play spot top-four duty, without Bahl.

The expectation is that they've solved their goaltending...but...goalies. Who knows.

They have a really weird mix on their blueline. Too much RHD, too little LHD. And lots of big-minute offensive guys who have defensive issues.

They basically threw Bahl to the wolves last season (lot of difficult minutes with Marino) and he did alright.

Too many defensemen (Dougie, Luke, Nemec) that need offensive minutes and ideally are slanted away from toughs. Siegenthaler's decline over the last two minutes exacerbates this.

They need a top-four, defensive LHD desperately.

Oddly, other than Brenden Dillon there's not really a UFA that fits the bill. Maybe Zadorov but that's a tricky one.

Look at Kadri, huberdeau’s contract and you’ll feel better about Calgary’s future

It's a weird UFA market for defensemen, in that there are way more RHD than LHD available, seemingly.

Bad time to need a top-four LHD. There's Skjei, who will get an enormous contract. Then you're basically at Zadorov/Dillon and....?

Flames are in an extremely interesting situation. They have a lot of cap space (23.27m), Wolf is their only important RFA, and they have pretty much their entire team under contract for next season. They have a clear need at defence if they want to compete. Here's their NHL depth chart:

Weegar-Andersson
Bahl-Miromanov
Hanley-Pachal

No one seems to know which way the Flames will go. I'm not sure they know either.

6x6 for their 3rd pairing ?
Yeah, Zadorov is an obvious big contract on a team that doesn’t have to worry about any big contract extensions in the next three years.

No chance they do when they’ve got that Siegenthaler contract on the left
