Here’s my spreadsheet for upcoming UFAs, each team’s cap situation, and a trade tracker. I update the spreadsheet daily. I use CapFriendly to create this list and AFP Analytics for the contract projections.

Edit: Spreadsheet has been updated with AFP's latest projections and I added a new section for RFAs.

the fact necas has a dad being quoted about his role on the team and desire to be traded at age 25 is a huge red flag. maybe they can trade him in a package for marner.

Avs will almost certainly be permitted to void his contract when/if he finishes his suspension and the Player Assistance Program approves his reinstatement.
i have a bad record recently with misreading your posts but i don't think avs can terminate nichushkin if he completes stage 3 and graduates. i think they are stuck with his contract and cap hit unless he hits stage 4.

You got this one right! From what I've read, there's a possibility the NHL would permit the Avalanche to void his contract based on past conduct. No one seems to know for certain, however.

I think the point of the program is that if you finish and pass, you don’t get punished. I think if he gets into phase 4 then the Avs can do something about it

The point of the program is to provide assistance in dealing with various addiction and mental health issues. Not getting voided is an incentive.

Lebrun is reporting that what happened isn’t grounds to void the contract. My personal opinion is they’ll find a way to get permission to void the contract or Nichushkin never completes stage 3.

So, good chance I’m wrong on this actually.

i would agree that guys who get to stage 3 tend to create collateral situations where their contracts can be terminated. at this stage nichushkin has millions of reasons to get his act together.

Your first paragraph is why I'm surprised these stages come with a loss of pay. I understand not making the team cover it, but imo the NHL and PA should be covering at least part of the contract (to be fair, I don't actually know that they aren't).

Just seems counterproductive to tell a guy to get his life in order and focus on his recovery, while simultaneously taking away his income.

Should be a middle ground

Provide some sort of wage living expense etc.. from a pool.. contract voided should be separate and activate this subsidized income from the pool.

At the end of the day a contract whether hundreds of thousands or tens of Millions is still just being held accountable by your employer

His pay is already suspended for 6 months, I think these programs exists in phase for a reason and they are to protect players from getting contract getting voided if they are willing to go through them to improve.

Should the Canucks do the unthinkable and trade Superstar Goalie Thatcher Demko? Think about the haul they’d get for him, the return would be incredible. He’s had a few injuries already and his durability is a bit of a concern going forward. We can sign a cheap veteran goalie to split starts with King Silovs, we should sign Silovs to a 1M x 7 year deal this offseason. Fortune favours the Bold.

No, Silovs has shown immense potential, but he still needs more work.

In modern NHL, you need two goalies. Schedule is only going to get tighter with the league pushing for best on best tournaments too.

I wouldn't be surprised if roster limits will expand to 24 to allow teams to carry a third goalie or another skater.

Goalies never return what fans think and were not trading Demko unless Silovs plays this well for a full season in the show.

Yup. If Silovs is great next year and you get an insane haul for Demko you might consider it in the 2025 offseason. There is nothing wrong with having 2 good goalies though and it’s not worth trading Demko for a first+. We should have a Demko/Silovs tandem until Demko’s contract ends and make a decision then depending on the play of Silovs, Demko’s health, etc.

If the Canucks only had a history of having a Vezina level goalie with a young and up and coming goalie ready to back them up.

I am just glad the league would never do something to make one of those goalies contracts suddenly terrible...

Any interest in bringing back Jalen Chatfield? Would he be an upgrade over Juulsen for 3RD?
He's going to get paid, I can see a bad team like the sharks give him term and money

Absolutely not. Most teams are running a platoon nowadays to avoid overworking their starter. Running Silovs and say, DeSmith would just be asking for a Campbell/Skinner situation, albeit without the gross cap hit.

There may come a day where Silovs takes over and we can ponder trading Demko. Or we simply move Silovs in such a scenario. That won't be this coming off season though.

I mentioned trading him before. Also, you don’t need an elite goalie to win the Stanley Cup.

Getting a haul and saving cap can be just as important

Yeah we need him to be a full time backup with excellent results for like 2 seasons before we anoint him as the starter.

There is no book on him right now, the test is always, what happens once the league has scouted him to death.
correct.

many such cases.

I respectfully disagree with trading Demko.
His cap hit isn't $10m.

I would be. Obviously comes down to the contact but I imagine the Canucks will look to keep Myers or get a replacement and keep Juulsen in his current role.

While I agree with the latter, I just don't think trading Demko now is a good day. We don't know whether Silovs is a flash in the pan (Lack) or a legitimate future starter (Schneider/Markstrom).

At the same time, I'll admit, if a team like New Jersey or Carolina came calling with a crazy package, it would be something to seriously consider. Suddenly, bringing back Lindholm, Zadorov, Joshua and even Hronek gets a whole lot easier.

When's the last time a star goalie got traded?
