It appears to be both. Hate for the Canucks appears to be unfounded, particularly in relation to other teams. And as far as I know, no one has ever been found guilty of guilt by association. Some very good people have been related to some major f***-ups.Not sure why most people hate the Adam Foote promotion to HC now when he was praised as a great assistant coach just 2 years ago when he joined the Canucks. Is it a Canucks hate thing now or is it because of his son?
why is their GA/GP going up by 0.36 in one year doing "a great job with the defence"?Weird how people just dismiss how great of a job Foote has done with this defence.
32nd overall in Penalty Kill when he took over.
17th overall in PK in his 1st year in charge of the Defence
3rd overall in PK in his 2nd year in charge of the Defence
Do you know how hard that is to turn a 32nd rank team into a 3rd rank team. lol Canucks D core this year consisted of Vinny Deharnais and Noah Juulsen playing 35 games. Not to mention players like Soucy and Forbort who arent exactly household names.

Maybe if you paid attention and watched games, you would see we have been playing without Demko for the whole season and had to rely on a backup goalie and Silovs who was terrible for us everytime he started. Not to mention injuries to Hronek and Hughes and at one point we had Juulsen and Desharnais playing in the top 4 at the same time. Foote is a great defensive coach but he is not Jesus to turn an injured D core composed of many AHL defenders playing in front of an AHL caliber goalie in Silovs into a playoff team. He showed how much he can improve our D once we got some competent defender in Marcus Pettersson. Being 3rd in PK knowing we played 3/4 of the season with AHL defenders and backup goalie is crazy work. But of course fans that don't watch our team and love to stat watch come up with biased and useless opinions based on ignorancewhy is their GA/GP going up by 0.36 in one year doing "a great job with the defence"?
they went from 5th best to 18th best and that was the 4th largest percentage increase in GA/GP for any team in the NHL. only ones worse were boston, pittsburgh, and buffalo.
You forgot we played almost the entire year without Demko who is a top 3 goalie in the league. Also tell me who were our defenders in most of the games we played this year? Juulsen? Desharnais? Forbort? It's not necessarily a superstar lineup. The personnel change is true but it's not like we upgraded on some of those guys unless you think a guy like blueger is an upgrade on Horvat or Desharnais is better than Schenn. You need structure to improve the PK. There is a reason why Myers improved ten fold under Foote, that's not because of personnel change but due to a coaching change. Similar to Hughes who won Vezina under Foote being the defensive coach. There is a reason why Hughes and Myers love Adam Foote.they went from having myers, pettersson, miller, bear, hughes, schenn, burroughs, horvat and aman as their top pk guys in 2022-23 to suter, blueger, myers, hronek, soucy, forbort, sherwood, heinen and garland in 2024-25
that's personnel as much as it is coaching

Well how do you know Horvat is terrible in PK?? Horvat was playing under garbage coaching first with Green and Nolan Baumgartner then Boudreau with both having terrible PK percentage. I think you forget players that improved under Foote and Gonchar and became better defenders. You aren't looking at the whole picture yet focusing on one little stat and taking it out of contextblueger is a huge upgrade on horvat with regards to the pk
i'm not talking about the team performance overall, just the pk
Thought he would have been the perfect choice tbh.Don’t disagree. Personally, I thought the Van farm club coach, Malholtra, was a good option. I don’t know if the transition from assistant coach to head coach works very good?
I'd take Malhotra > Foote any day of the week. The better options were gone or were not an option for Canucks to begin with. The candidates were who? Sturm? Love? Give me a break. The best 2 out of those were Malhotra and Foote and we kept both.
Experience wise there were better options but I think this came down to the fact Foote knew everything that went on internally and there was a certain appeal to that.I'd take Malhotra > Foote any day of the week.
I'm just saying, if you are grabbing a head coach that has a short resume of junior hockey, you can find better options with more success. Plus I don't really see why you would want to grab someone from this current coaching staff. At least Malhotra would have been coming from Abbotsford.
Didn't Malhotra get released by Toronto ?Thought he would have been the perfect choice tbh.
Most replies in this thread are just drive byes from all the salty types. They will find something to beak off about and if nothing else, a libelous dig at his son will do.So....we hate the re-treads and we hate the new guys.
He did. Spent 4 years there and did a decent job imo.Didn't Malhotra get released by Toronto ?
care to quote exactly where the "biased and useless opinions based on ignorance" are in my post?Maybe if you paid attention and watched games, you would see we have been playing without Demko for the whole season and had to rely on a backup goalie and Silovs who was terrible for us everytime he started. He was an assistant, he moved on and has done a great jobDidn't Malhotra get released by Toronto ?
Dad? lolI'm toetally okay with this heelarious hire.
The Canucks will go undefeeted!
Please God, no.he's going to win the Jack Adams next year, just watch.
You don't get it. Canucks wanted to retain both. Hiring Malhotra as HC means you lose Foote who was instrumental in our defensive structure and improved PK.I'd take Malhotra > Foote any day of the week.

Biased because you are trying to use a stat to backup your narrative of why you think Foote is bad. Useless because you are taking a stat and talking about it out of context not mentioning why the stat might have been bad. Factors such as injuries, not playing with key defenders and number 1 goalie will obviously affect any team stat. When the year prior, with a healthier roster and their number 1 goalie, that stat was a lot better.care to quote exactly where the "biased and useless opinions based on ignorance" are in my post?
