I still can’t get over that Soucy interference

Easily the most blatent interference I have ever seen

He knocks the net off the interference is so blatent and the refs let the play continue and they score 15 seconds later

I thought he was gonna punch the ref

Just before that, Soucy was tripped skate on skate, preventing him from getting to the loose puck. Ottawa gets possession because of it, and then the ridiculous interference followed by the eventual goal.

So incompetent, it makes ME want to punch the refs.

I was impressed that the Canucks kicked it up a notch when their captain, and best player, was tossed out of the game.

Instead of imploding, they kept resilient, and stuck to the game plan..good win.

Remember how a not insignificant portion of those same people dreamt of dealing him for Tkachuk because he's such a leader ('cuz he punchez stuff').

I like the Senators in general, but they are very prone to playing like an entitled, petulant, bully team with zero details. It must be ludicrously easy for a team with maturity and a system it trusts to decimate them piece by piece and watch them tantrum and ruin themselves and it feels like it's them taking on Tkachuk's persona.

Now, I'm not arguing he doesn't care. Nor am I arguing that he'll never figure it out. I suspect he'll get out of there, or they'll mature as a team and he'll have a J.T. Miller arc. But what he was showing wasn't really leadership, it was more like a bully having a tantrum.

reminds me of his dad back in the day. when he first came up and we faced him in the playoffs he looked like he had limitless potential as a future power forward with lethal motor.

but then when winnipeg/phoenix built around him as their leader, made him captain at like 21, chose him as the dude over selanne, that set the foundation for a pissy immature and ultimately me first team where established vets, including our coach, went to take late-career two year resort vacations.

look at roenick, unhinged warrior everywhere he ever went other than phoenix, where he wore flip flops and bermuda shorts everyday and was golfing by the time the second round started. look at tverdovsky, whose holdout tkachuk openly cheerleaded in the press, leading eventually to the khabibulin saga. those teams always had decent talent, even in the context of the mid-to-late 90s western conference arms races, but they took on daddy tkachuk’s personality and there was no there there.

licked my chops everytime we faced a keith tkachuk team. it always starts off with him puffing out his chest but you apply a little resistance and he starts taking dumb penalties and disappearing.

Watched the game this morning a few thoughts

Good effort overall and resilient especially without our best player

Don't have an issue with Hughes getting tossed. It was a bit reckless above the waist and early in the season. The league has to protect players. In saying that the Hoglander call and lack of a call on a obvious and blatant interference on Soucy is disgusting and obvious game management. The NHL should be ashamed and the 2 refs should be held accountable

Top line was fantastic. Nice to see EP40 getting settled down and playing his game.
Debrusk is such a wildly polarizing player. He looks like a unengaged meathead for 4-5 games and then a fast power forward stud for 4-5. It's no surprise as that's exactly as he's been in Boston. The reason i was pro Debrusk is because he has been able to channel it at the right times. He knows it too hence why he siad earlier this year "it's what i do". Loved that confidence.
Sherwood has to be the best bang for buck that isnt on a ELC right now. Dragging players into the fight physical and a scoring force what a player right now

So nice to see Joshua and Garland back re united. These 2 are just a perfect fit and Joshua is starting to find his game and legs. His strength on the puck and smart quality passing combination with an ability to get inside is huge for this team. Offence will come.
Garland like Sherwood is all out effort every game and is driving play like no other up front.

Gotta give Hronek huge props for his start. Always a little maddening in some of his decisions (pass and shot timing mostly) but he's been wildly effective overall in huge minutes. Is having an excellent season

So happy for Max Sasson and his family. Has a Blueger like path if he can keep improving. Smart two way guy with really good wheels.

Feel bad for Hoglander. Really struggling right now to find cohesion in his play. Hope that fight puts some attitude into his play. Ultimately his best role will be as a 3rd wheel energy guy somewhere in the top9. If he can learn from Sherwood and Garland bring the effort more consistently plus have attitude/agitating qualities that would go a long way to seeing more looks to score.

Just watched the replay and cant believe the refs foisted a comeback on the Sens late, Stutzle should have gotten a penalty for boarding on Hoglander, absolute joke of a run around late by the Sens. Soucy interference non call.

Cant believe we spent nearly 6M on D signings this offseason (not counting Hronek) and absolute shit to show for it between Myers, Desharnais, and Forbort.

Sherwood is a beast.

Hronek really stepped up with Hughes gone

Its also wild how Tkachuk is allowed to throw tantrums and take guys to the box with him

great win aside, Hronek's refusal? inability? to shoot is extremely frustrating. It used to be a weapon and he had so many opportunities to shoot last night, especially with us missing our 3 main shooters!
I think Hronek must have a lingering shoulder issue from last year leaving him hesitant to shoot

Geez Hoglander is playing fine, he’s taking some dumb penalties but he’s got more hustle than half the team, if he gets hot he’s gonna pot goals because of how many opportunities he creates. I love the guy I feel like he’s gonna be the one who gets traded but I don’t see any reason to be throwing him under the bus
The Hoglander hate I just don’t understand. I guess the team needs a whipping boy but he’s honestly fine. Just snakebitten.

His struggles all stem from poor defensive play but he's only 23 and a work in progress. The coaches are hard on him because they're trying to make a responsible top 6 player out of him and it's hurt his confidence offensively.

The hate is unwarranted for a 23 year old 2nd round pick.

And Jamie Benn has a history

But Carlo got his face in the glass from Benn; Norris got his teeth in the corner of boards and was forced into the quiet room under observation from Hughes. Whatever you say about Benn's check, the Hughes check was definitely correct call even if it wasn't that bad or in spite of what Benn did. Benn's might have been a blown call but he didn't get Carlo's face into the corner of the boards.

The Hoglander fight was 4 and 2 for roughing? That's just a politics call - that was an actual fight. It's bad game management because it's so obvious a wrong call.

I think Tkachuk is likely an unreal player on a team with an established leadership group and vets. I think it's a recipe for trouble to give a kid the C on a somewhat young team that you know is going to lose all the time in a Canadian market - especially when you're giving them the C specifically because of how much they wear their heart on their sleeve and "drag the team into the fight." Of course that player isn't likely to have the maturity under all that pressure to steer themselves away from frustrated outbursts and still be the player you want them to be.
I'm not sure what you are saying. From my perspective Tkachuk was the one who started the comeback started by not being willing to give up being 4-1 down with less than 6 minutes to go. He goaded Joshua into the fight, got himself a 10 minute misconduct, but put the fight back in the team on a very tired looking Canuck team.
To me that's leadership and that young team bought into it. Are you saying he would excel on a better team?
