What D-man could Hoglander legitimately fetch 1-for-1?
Maybe someone like Brian Dumoulin, but the Ducks might just prefer holding on to him for now. And they don't really have much use for Hoglander.

I don't think he holds much value currently with his play, and especially so with his new contract. Ultimately he's an undersized winger with limited potential that's lacking defensively.

myers went full riley stillman at the end

flabbergasting, even for him

That slapshot icing where he almost shot it out of play was the biggest WTF Tyler Myers moment since he dumped the puck in during 3-on-3.

On the other hand, don't think the Sens will be happy with the 2 minute 5 on 3 either. While that was on Brady being an idiot all night, usually the standard is higher for the second call than that.

Tkachuk took 4 separate huge runs at Canuck players during the puck-ragging sequence and then broke his stick over a guy. That was 100% legit. If anything they gave Tkachuk a lot of rope before finally calling him.

Before talking about anything else there needs to be some venting about the reffing in this game. First you have the ludicrous Hughes ejection but that wasn't he worst thing that happened, incredibly. We're up 4-1 with 5 minutes to go and Ottawa has basically quit and are trying to goon things up and Stutzle takes a massive charging/boarding run at Hoglander that was 10x worse than the Hughes/Norris play. Then Stutzle instigates a fight with Hoglander. This should have been a textbook 4 min PP for Vancouver, game over. But somehow *Hoglander* is given the extra 2 minutes (I guess for winning the fight that Stutzle started?) and Ottawa is thrown a lifeline. Then Soucy is mauled *twice* on the ensuing PP leading to the 4-2 goal and now Ottawa is back in the game. Probably the single worse example of game management BS I've ever seen, and it was in a game where we already had a ludicrous call go against us. f***ing ridiculous. If we had lost this game I probably would have stopped watching the NHL for a while.

Anyhow, that was a huge, gutsy win under the circumstances. 4 of our 5 best players missing and had to kill off a 5 minute PP. Really strong team effort and our 2nd period was absolutely outstanding especially given the circumstances.

Debrusk-Pettersson-Sherwood carried the team tonight. That was the best game that any line Pettersson was on has had in almost 11 months. Debrusk had his best game and Sherwood just continues to be a ridiculous acquisition.

Best game for Joshua since his return. Starting to see the best part of his game come back which is his exceptional forechecking and ability to turn pucks over with his ridiculously strong stick.

Blueger got mauled in the faceoff dot by Giroux but played a hell of a game otherwise.

Sasson had a really nice first game. Skated well, picked up an assist, no major errors.

Hoglander ... man. He's a liability right now. Just awful at both ends of the ice tonight and another yet another bad penalty (the one in the 2nd period, not the late BS). Maybe the fight can light some sort of spark? But his season has been a total disaster.

Juulsen had a 95% good game tonight but the one absolutely braindead play at the end of the 2nd ruined it and that's why he's unplayable in the playoffs. 5 seconds left in the 2nd period after the team has played a terrific period in tough circumstances and then you do the stupid thing that you always do and basically concede a breakaway. Just so, so stupid.

Hronek was f***ing outstanding tonight. The 'needs to prove he can carry a pairing' stuff is so dumb - he can obviously do that when required and tonight was a perfect example. Myers was also very good until the awful late icings. Brannstrom played higher leverage and kept his nose clean.

Shame that Lankinen had his stats ruined for the night by the late reffing BS. Was very good, outplayed Ullmark.

Get stuffed, Travis Green. You stupid gimp.

Brady Tkachuk is a giant f***ing baby but I'd kill to have him here, and I'm guessing that actually winning games would probably make most of the giant f***ing baby traits disappear.

This summary is so perfect. Neatly encapsulates everything.

Sherwood really came into this game saying “alright, all of you had better duck - because I’m about to turn left, and I don’t want to smack any of you with my dick”. Whether he’s running someone over, making a sweet pass or scoring a goal, he’s doing it all right now.

Great to see both Petey and DeBrusk post multi point games. With all of our absences at the moment, we need some guys to carry the weight - and its great that their line, with Sherwood, is doing just that.

Big game from Hronek. Absolutely a #2 defensemen and he played like it today.

Reffing was horseshit. What else can you say about NHL refs?

Glad we avoided losing to Travis Green. Yuck. And man, someone get Tkachuk a soother - he’s playing unhinged.

I'm just guessing that injury rule on boarding was for when a guy leaves the game with a concussion. Not to get a minor cut that sends him to the back for a minute and he is back to finish the power play. I said this earlier but that rule needs to be looked at. Injury is just too vague. Don't blame the refs for that one because it's technically the rules.

They can get f***ed for the Stützle-Hoglander call though.

Carter Sandlak reffing this game..?..I remember last season in Detroit when he handed the wings multiple 3rd period phantom game management PP’s..It was pathetic..The end result was generated by the ref,and not the players on the ice.

I think about that a lot more than I should. The way Cheech said "...and he just gave it away" you could almost hear him rolling his eyes hahahahahaha.

Yeah don’t get me wrong, he deserved it after being an absolute moron all night and not getting called for it.

Sens will be miffed it was finally called when they were already going down a man, but you won’t see any tears shed from me on that one.

The zebras did absolutely nothing to make sure the after whistle nonsense was kept to a minimum, and managed the score instead of the game which is unbelievably stupid but classic NHL bs.

Was Sherwood always like this, because he does things at high speed and he manages to stay in control. That was a pretty good no look pass to DeBrusk. 12 points in 19 games. What a steal.

We’ll see if he can do it for a whole season, but he definitely showed some good offensive chops in the minors. Think he was definitely a case of being capable of more than the role he had in Nashville last season - we’re just fortunate he was allowed to walk and that we got him.

My hope was for his physicality and pain in the ass play to translate here. He’s done all that and become an offensive factor, surpassing my hopes by a long shot.

Watching him for Colorado (AHL) in 21-22 against Abbotsford I couldn't understand why he wasn't in the NHL at that point on someone's 2nd line. He was fast, he competed, he had a rocket of a shot. Was probably the most dominant offensive player in the AHL. But the insane hitting is something I don't remember at all from that point in his career.

Tkachuk seems to be playing like a guy who feels very hopeless. He’s seen the exact same scenario being played out now for the last 5 years where his team implodes in November/December which has them playing catch up for the rest of the year and then eventually coming up short which is also another psychological obstacle.

He probably feels the brunt of all the shortcomings from all the heightened expectations imposed onto him as the captain and he’s releasing all of that built up pressure out on the ice. He doesn’t seem like the typical “goon” type where he’s just trying to injure guys for f***s, he genuinely does seem like a guy who’s just trying to get his team going and wants to instill a no nonsense identity. But his antics obviously do get the better of him and more often than not he’s just embarassing himself and ends up hurting the team with these bad penalties and that takes himself out the game.
