Quality win, I'm sure Ottawa will love to hang their hat on those two late goals but truth be told they didn't deserve anything tonight.

I must admit I talked a lot of smack about DeBrusk after the Rangers game; he deserves credit for making some good plays tonight. Still an "all tools no box" player but hey, at least they're NHL quality tools.

Sherwood stonks have never been higher 📈📈📈 He is sneakily a very good player, with IQ, hands, and great speed.
It's funny how Sherwood's go-through-em approach just helps out Debrusk and Petey though. I think they're coming on.

When Boeser comes back do we put him with EP until JT returns? Or do we leave that top line alone?

Leave them alone for now. Ease Brock back in like Dak.

DeBrusk-Petey-Sherwood
Joshua-Suter-Garland
Heinen-Blueger-Boeser

Honestly the Sens scoring two late goals to make it a1-goal game but not tying it is so on brand for Travis Green that it's hilarious.

YOOOOO. Good to see you dude :yo:

Coaching staff needs to wake the f*** up. Stop putting myers and juulsen out in the last moments. Haven't we learned from the playoffs?

Ok, Myers played ok for the 2nd and then started steadily declining again as the game went on. You put him out in a vital moment at the end, I get it. But then he makes the dumbest possible play with tons of time and no pressure....DON'T PUT HIM OUT THERE AGAIN. And definitely don't put Juulsen out there with him...

Also, Hronek was an absolute stud this game and he's not out there at the end?

This coaching staff just can't help themselves, they put Myers out mindlessly and just ignore when he makes dumb decisions. At least be able to read who is playing well in the game and lean on them...
How was Brannstrom

Excellent effort considering the missing players after Hughes went down up until the 5-on-3 PP. Seemed like they thought the game was over at that point and were mostly concerned with setting up Debrusk for the hatty.

Then they completely stopped playing and started making dumb and soft plays. Could not win a faceoff, could not get a proper clear.

Hronek with a monster game.

Thought Lankinen was swimming quite a bit. He did a good job handling dump-ins though, helped the D-men break out a lot.

Refereeing continues to be a circus.

Reffing was attrocious tonight, don't think either team is going home happy. Juxtapose the 5 minute major and a game Hughes got with how Hoglander got driven into the boards...and then penalized, and its absolutely wild.

On the other hand, don't think the Sens will be happy with the 2 minute 5 on 3 either. While that was on Brady being an idiot all night, usually the standard is higher for the second call than that. Onto the rest:

Petey line: Incredible, masterclass performance. Gives you hope that the Canucks have finally solved the Petey line woes, which bodes incredibly well for when Miller and Boeser are back. Debrusk was on point, and Keifer has just been incredible. I do wonder how his body will hold up hitting this much at that size, but that's something to think about at the end of the season.

Defense: Some mishaps at the end of the game as the refs went crazy, but did a great job weathering the storm without Hughes. Thought Hronek was amazing, hopefully it shuts some people up who think he's not a top pairing guy.

Garland line: Solid work tonight. You can see Joshua is getting his game back, which again bodes well for the team having 3 solid ES lines when the team is healthy.

Hoglander: This is why Boudreau sent his ass down to the minors after his good rookie year. He needs to take a lesson from Sherwood and start playing all out every shift, as he's not talented or big enough to get away with anything else.

Sasson: Really cool seeing him get his first point. That he did well in a very choppy game.

Lankinen: Great job keeping the guys in it. Thought the third goal was a bit soft given Stutzle's shot placement, but other than that on point.

Senators look exactly like a team coached by Travis Green. That was the easiest our defense has had it all season at moving the puck because of how lackadaisical their effort was in all 3 zones at even strength. Effort, discipline, and structure was all over the place. Don't know how Sportsnet kept showing them winning the puck battles today, as that did not match my eye test at all.

Before talking about anything else there needs to be some venting about the reffing in this game. First you have the ludicrous Hughes ejection but that wasn't he worst thing that happened, incredibly. We're up 4-1 with 5 minutes to go and Ottawa has basically quit and are trying to goon things up and Stutzle takes a massive charging/boarding run at Hoglander that was 10x worse than the Hughes/Norris play. Then Stutzle instigates a fight with Hoglander. This should have been a textbook 4 min PP for Vancouver, game over. But somehow *Hoglander* is given the extra 2 minutes (I guess for winning the fight that Stutzle started?) and Ottawa is thrown a lifeline. Then Soucy is mauled *twice* on the ensuing PP leading to the 4-2 goal and now Ottawa is back in the game. Probably the single worse example of game management BS I've ever seen, and it was in a game where we already had a ludicrous call go against us. f***ing ridiculous. If we had lost this game I probably would have stopped watching the NHL for a while.

Anyhow, that was a huge, gutsy win under the circumstances. 4 of our 5 best players missing and had to kill off a 5 minute PP. Really strong team effort and our 2nd period was absolutely outstanding especially given the circumstances.

Debrusk-Pettersson-Sherwood carried the team tonight. That was the best game that any line Pettersson was on has had in almost 11 months. Debrusk had his best game and Sherwood just continues to be a ridiculous acquisition.

Best game for Joshua since his return. Starting to see the best part of his game come back which is his exceptional forechecking and ability to turn pucks over with his ridiculously strong stick.

Blueger got mauled in the faceoff dot by Giroux but played a hell of a game otherwise.

Sasson had a really nice first game. Skated well, picked up an assist, no major errors.

Hoglander ... man. He's a liability right now. Just awful at both ends of the ice tonight and another yet another bad penalty (the one in the 2nd period, not the late BS). Maybe the fight can light some sort of spark? But his season has been a total disaster.

Juulsen had a 95% good game tonight but the one absolutely braindead play at the end of the 2nd ruined it and that's why he's unplayable in the playoffs. 5 seconds left in the 2nd period after the team has played a terrific period in tough circumstances and then you do the stupid thing that you always do and basically concede a breakaway. Just so, so stupid.

Hronek was f***ing outstanding tonight. The 'needs to prove he can carry a pairing' stuff is so dumb - he can obviously do that when required and tonight was a perfect example. Myers was also very good until the awful late icings. Brannstrom played higher leverage and kept his nose clean.

Shame that Lankinen had his stats ruined for the night by the late reffing BS. Was very good, outplayed Ullmark.

Get stuffed, Travis Green. You stupid gimp.

Brady Tkachuk is a giant f***ing baby but I'd kill to have him here, and I'm guessing that actually winning games would probably make most of the giant f***ing baby traits disappear.

I wasn't paying a ton of attention. But I didn't notice Bains until late. And it was on an own zone shift where he thought was over and gave up and just looked lost. No urgency.

But we just gotta trust NHL's wink wink nudge nudge approach to refs.

Surely they wouldn't allow incompetent reffing to continue...right?

PS: If any refs are trolling these boards, go f*** yourselves.
