6 points in 29 games at Clarkson in his 19 year old freshman season in the NCAA for Gardner. Had a solid season in 2022-23 of junior in the USHL, but the transition to the NCAA seemed to be tough for him (plus Clarkson recruits and plays almost all older veterans). We will see how he does in 2024-25.

He transferred to St. Cloud State this summer. He was always seen as a project but his development has been discouraging.

Here's a good article about him. Nothing about the Canucks or dreams of playing in the NHL though... The photos from 2022 are funny. He looks so much taller than everybody else. A giant among boys.

The best that can be said for him is that he's a natural center--which is still an area of organizational need. But after that......well there's really nothing after that. Correction, he is big.

As I recall he suffered a serious knee injury in the USHL shortly after he was drafted, that would obviously have set him back. And as a bigger guy, there's still a chance with a couple more years of NCAA hockey that he might put it all together.

But it shines a spotlight on how much better things are right now. Even if they 'miss' on a kid like Gardner, the Canucks are snagging guys like Mynio, Krudyavtsev, Arliksson, Romani, Mueller and Patterson in later rounds. And most of them will make their way to Abbotsford at least.
