Saw on Twitter today that Bo Horvat would jump at the chance if called (and I hope he does). Who else could conceivably end up there?

Sweden:
Daniel Sedin
Henrik Sedin
Jacob Markstrom

USA:
Ryan Miller

Switzerland:
Sven Baertschi

Canada:
Dan Hamhuis
Chris Tanev

I like cheering on home team players in this tournament, although watching it with the wonky hours is difficult.

Would be amazing if Horvat and/or Hutton could get a look in for this.

Yeah. I respect the older guys that go over to represent their country but would probably be more interested if it was geared more towards young players.

The agent of Bartschi already told, that he wont be at the World Championships (except he signs a new contract in the next weeks)

The Sedins aren't suiting up for the WHC, unfortunately, but Marky should get the call. With Lehner out for the season there really isn't anyone close to Marky available. If we are lucky we'll finally see the Eddie and Jacob show, part 2.

Larsen has gone for the last several year. I would think he goes again

You forgot Hansen :) And I doubt Hamhuis gets chosen.

Hamhuis was an assistant captain in 2015 and had an all around pretty good tournament. I don't know where you're getting your thinking from I'd say he gets the call .

Is Denmark in the main group this year?

Where did the Sedins say they wouldn't go? Not a huge surprise, mind you, with the World Cup this fall, but I hadn't heard that.

I would be thrilled if Horvat/Hutton got invites for Canada.

They haven't said that but they rarel play in the WHC and they are both nursing injuries (according to Botch) and both are playing in the World Cup of Hockey later in the summer. But of course, I might be wrong - I hope I am lol.

EDIT: The Sedins are not going to play according to the Swedish newspaper Expressen.

Denmark is in the main group every year - or at least they have been ever since first getting promoted in 2003... Larsen should play if he gets healthy soon. Montreal has already said that they won't block Eller from going if he wants to go. I haven't heard anything along those lines from the Canucks wrt Hansen. But at least there was no incentive to rush him back from his latest injury, so I would think he doesn't have any hidden or nagging injuries that would stop him from going.

Has anybody mentioned Kenins? Even if he hasn't had the best season, he might go if the Comets don't go far in the playoffs.

Also, Nicklas Jensen will probably go as well. What's that? Oh, well... Never mind...:)

Hamhuis was a valuable addition to last year's team, and would be again, but unless his contractual situation has changed, pending UFAs (Canadian) usually take a pass on this tournament. That's where he gets his thinking. He could say, "what the hell, let's risk it". but I doubt it.

That gives reason for Hamhuis to decline if chosen. I don't think that was what was being discussed, though.

The wording from Canadian Canuck that rypper questioned, was "And I doubt Hamhuis gets chosen."

I think he'd likely be invited to play, based on his good play late this season and his past international experience including his good play in that tournament last season.

Even though Weber and Sbisa have been less than stellar, can you foresee two NHL-dmen being cut from the Swiss team? Who would be on their defense?

Would definitely be a cool opportunity for Horvat and/or Hutton. Though just coming off his first long NHL season grind out of NCAA, it wouldn't necessarily be bad if Hutton didn't even get a call, in terms of getting right into his offseason plan (whatever that may be).

Sbisa i doubt goes. He likely gets a call (iirc he got a call from the Swiss team last year, but was beat up after that Sbieksa disaster got forechecked to high heavens vs the Flames, and declined). But he's been injured for a while now this year as well. Likely the same situation as last year.

Weber is a possibility. Though also a UFA without a contract for next year. So who knows.

Weber declined last year due to contract status, I assume he will decline again.

Yeah. I'd imagine he will decline if asked. Though considering it may be one last ditch opportunity to impress someone enough to actually give him an NHL contract next year...maybe there's a possibility. Though doubtful.

Most Team Finland observers are expecting Markus Granlund to play at the World Championships as either the second or third-line center. Add him to the list.

American always go young with their WC invites..
I think with the World Cup in September, you'll see the majority of them over 27-28 yrs of age pass on the Worlds...

i.e. i don't think the Twins will opt to play in both..

So i'm expecting to see perhaps Can and US's youngest contingent of players yet.
