Whoever our next coach is they better be bald.

He really preached toughness and grit but his teams never answered the bell or faced the music, one thing I absolutely couldn’t stand about his coaching.

Didn’t matter what time in the game or season it was, what the score or record was, focus on the win don’t respond to a dirty hit or the other team taking liberties. Gutless hockey. And what does he do at first adversity? Turtles and takes the first off ramp.

Lost a lot of respect for him. While he did a good job overall here I didnt like a lot about what he did, and character was the main thing going for him. Look how that turned out.

if it was an issue he wouldn't have taken the f***ing job in the first place.
First of all, people might change their of their work after doing it for a few years. Second of all, it's still an NHL job, and even if the circumstances are not perfect it's better than no job. And thirdly, no-one is suggesting that the lack of a practice facility is the sole reason Tocchet is walking away. Probably one of three core questions. One being money, two being the daily job (the lack of practice facility), the third being the direction of the team.

Like what others have said, the practice rink sounds like a noble excuse to leave. Even if they'd announce the plan to build a rink, it would take years for it to be complete. Is Rick looking that far ahead? He join the Canucks even when there were no immediate plans to build one.

If reports in the Province are to be believed, the Canucks were willing to go as far as $4m a season; and Tocchet's reps wanted $5m.....which is probably what they'll get from the Flyers.

So this 'perfect storm' of a season continues in the off-season. I suppose when Tocchet took a swipe at ownership and management over the 'lack of a practice facility', we should have seen the end coming.

So what's next? Sullivan obviously. But heading to New York or Boston for one of the biggest coaching vacancies, seems too logical to ignore. There's the usual 'retreads' like Torts and Laviolette--but forget about it.

When it comes of the coaching vacancy in Vancouver, nobody ever mentions Adam Foote? Is there some reason for this? At least there'd be some coaching continuity.

Overall a weird scenario. Team could've opted into their team option and just kept him another year no questions asked. The fact that Rutherford took that off the table so long ago meant that they were willing to pay him more and all but if he was truly their number one pick why take it off the table? I suspect that maybe one of the other coaches out there are actually high on their list.

Laviolette and Sullivan are the coaches that won all of Rutherfords Stanley Cups. So maybe them being out there factored into how this played out (in addition to Tocchet not wanting to stay or being insanely greedy if reports are right).

Winning changes everything. Bring a coach in that can put the Canucks back on the winning side and everyone might be singing another tune next year just like last summer.

Just terrible optics when the coach you bring in says no thanks two years later. You can’t attract free agents or retain your own with a carousel of coaches.
A seasoned winning coach costs a lot of $:laugh:
I believe part of the reason he is gone is he wants $$$$

Next season could end up being some kinda transition year which will lead us to losing Hughes. We don’t have a legitimate top 6, we don’t have a coaching staff and we don’t know what system we will have. I think they knew Tocchet was leaving which is why they brought up the idea of Hughes leaving, we’re being set up for disappointment because they know we’re likely going to lose Hughes with the loss of Tocchet and all the questions going into the next season.
