Confirmed with Link: Canucks announce HC Rick Tocchet will Not Return

Family.. Huh.
I could only find that he has a son who is in his mid 20's. So, a grown man.

Unless he has elderly parents that he wants to be near, kind of like the Melanson situation.

Tocchet is 61, so his parents are likely mid 80's if they are still alive.

Tocchet has his flaws but he is a legit NHL coach that almost got us to the playoffs this year when everything went wrong. Aqua not wanting to pay the money for an NHL coach is concerning. We can’t afford to have another mystery box and end up with a Willie D or Green. Does Aqua realize how much revenue he will lose if Hughes leaves?

And f***, the feeling that this is a team on the rise from last year lasted all of 5 minutes.

Think his mom passed a few years back when he was in AZ.

Honestly, embarrassing is the right word to use here.

After just one disaster season, Rick basically said I’m out of here, he quit on the culture he wanted to implement, he quit on the organization, and he quit on the players like quinn who loves him.

And the fact we could not convince him to stay, it is also organizationally embarrassing.

Unless of course its family related

That’s all I’m gonna say about this right now

If the next coach can fix our lack of shooting and goals, then Tocchet will be forgotten just like Boudreau was.

But now we’re gambling on a new coach and new players to come in and save us.

Sigh, gambling. Miss you already.

Embarrassing

Quinn's probably gone now barring miracles.

My optimistic glass half full side was saying if Rick returns.. maybe they'll start righting the ship

This is a mess now.

I’m getting 2013-14 everyone trying to get off the sinking ship vibes. At least then we had 5 years of competing and a Stanley cup final instead of a 2nd round appearance and a bunch of playoff misses.

Dude just wants more money and the practice facility is just a lame excuse. this is not a criticism, I am on board with people grabbing the bag and it makes sense for him to chase the bag considering Philly is willing to give him a blank check.

But seriously let's not pretend practice facility is even remotely a reason he didn't want to stay.
When you are one of only two teams without one, and multiple reporters say that this WAS a factor for Tocchet, trying to pretend otherwise is just playing ignorant.

A practice facility is literally the main workplace for the coach and the players. You can put yourself into their shoes.

So not a gambling coach?

I hope Maholtra gets a 3 year deal and I hope he reviews lots of StLouis's interviews.

Who knows maybe Pettersson reacts positively without screaming meetings

I'm not the biggest tocchet fan. I didn't like the play it safe system he integrated in a scoring league but I still think he was an above average coach. Bonus marks for Quinn liking him.

The bigger concern here is everyone above the coaches inability to win a negotiation. We have our top prospect holding out. Their preferred coach just walked. Couldn't get proper value for a 100p center. Couldn't get boeser signed or dealt. Couldn't get Suter signed or dealt. The only thing this group can seem to do is sign bargain bin players.

May as well trade Hughes now. No way he sticks around and I don't blame him. But then again... They can't get shit for anyway.

I can’t wait until they trade Willander for Josh Norris and Ryan McLeod, hire Jay Woodcroft, miss the playoffs, Hughes still walks, and we retool on the fly for another 10 years!!

A bunch of reports said Tocchet was trying to reset the market for coaching contracts, and I think this is all just a money thing, personally.

I’d expect the organization goes with the cheap(est) option, so Malhotra has to be viewed as the favourite after his year in Abbotsford.

Hopefully they just admit he wanted too much cash and just put it to bed.

This certainly has been a season for the (dark) ages. It seemed like Tocchet leaving was the likely outcome, and here we are. Honestly, I primarily wanted Toc back to make Hughes happy more than anything, but it’s definitely embarrassing as a franchise to have a coach walk away like that. Guess he couldn’t meet pressure with pressure though LOL.

Unfortunately other than Sullivan the retreads out there don’t look particularly appealing either. Very much feels like even if you didn’t think Tocchet was a great coach the downside greatly outweighs the upside.

Malhotra seems to have done a good job in Abbotsford but making him HC after only one season seems a bit aggressive.

Do wonder if they go off the beaten path for a replacement.

Woodcroft has one of the strangest faces i’ve seen and for that reason I don’t want him to be our coach.
