This is bad. I don’t care how you felt about him as a coach (I thought he was just fine and the least of our problems) but this is embarrassing. How many times has a coach willingly left an organization? With everything else that has been going on we are looking like a very unserious franchise. The joke of the league.

Hughes is most likely gone. I think he was gone either way but now I would say it’s almost a foregone conclusion. Unless somehow we become a good team next season but there is far too much work to be done on that front with the way EP has declined.

From the hope we all felt last season at this time to the current state of the team now… it really is unbelievable.

“I'm choosing to move on from the Vancouver Canucks,” said Tocchet. “Family is a priority, and with my contract lapsing, this becomes the opportune time. While I don't know where I'm headed, or exactly how this will play out for me over the near term, I feel like this is the right time for me to explore other opportunities in and around hockey.

Family.. Huh.

Tochett wanted a lot of money for a coach. I didn't mind him but I am extremely worried that this could be the nail in the coffin for Quinn Hughes future as a Canuck. Hughes loved Tochett.

This sucks.

This season just gets worse. Look there’s no point of speculating on Hughes, he’s still signed for the next two seasons, that’s a lot of hockey to play.

What we should speculate is who will be Canucks next coach. Rutherford is probably trying to convince Sullivan but realistically, we end up with Malhotra who is Tocchett lite.

Family.. Huh.
Very vague. We will know more once he lands somewhere.

Winning changes everything. Bring a coach in that can put the Canucks back on the winning side and everyone might be singing another tune next year just like last summer.

Just terrible optics when the coach you bring in says no thanks two years later. You can’t attract free agents or retain your own with a carousel of coaches.

Family.. Huh.
Dude just wants more money and the practice facility is just a lame excuse. this is not a criticism, I am on board with people grabbing the bag and it makes sense for him to chase the bag considering Philly is willing to give him a blank check.

But seriously let's not pretend practice facility is even remotely a reason he didn't want to stay.

This + the Willander holdup reeks of organizational dysfunction and makes for a brutal start to the offseason.

More upset about losing Foote and Gonchar than Tocchet, but the fact that Tocchet was clearly their guy and they couldn’t retain him is pretty embarassing.
yeah, and the lack of a practice facility after many years of this being an issue is also embarrassing.

is this enough to conclude that management is pinching pennies though? Its Tocchet stepping away from Vancouver, no indication that management is not willing to pay him.
