As I see our Owner and GM are not willing to accept the reality of what this team is (as has been the case since the twins started aging)....I thought of the following deal as they are going to do whatever they can to keep Quinn, even if it means screwing our future AND losing him in 2 years.

So, my idea here is a hedge. It gives us a "chance" but also hedges the risk he leaves (which I personally think is a given, as we just have too many holes).

As a result, its imperative we keep what young talent we have to aid in a quicker rebuild in 2 years. Face it fans, the hard truth is coming and at least we'll be forced into a rebuild. Perhaps Quinn will get us a cup, eventually, by forcing Aqua man to actually rebuild when he leaves.

1. Hronek is therefore expendable and a high value asset. We have to give to get and given where we are in our life cycle, if we are going to try and keep Quinn, we have to do it.

2. Buffalo needs a stud Dman who can teach their young guys how to play properly, they want off Norris (Quinn's close friend) and Byram. Byram is a high risk, could be one hit away from done, so his value is not as high as many would think but he is also our hedge for losing Quinn.

3. Buffalo has 9th overall

Hronkek plus our first for Norris, Byram and a swap of firsts. We use that first to draft the best C available, there will be some good ones at 9 - Maybe Jake O'Brien

4. Demko to Philly for Owen Tippet, conditional second or third from Van if Demko is injured for x percent of the year

Throw money at Ehlers, ReSign Suter, DPetey can play both sides

Debrusk Petey Ehlers (Size and Speed to help Petey)
Garland Norris Tippet (Aggressive, speed, and size)
Joshua Suter Sherwood (One hell of an annoying line to deal with)
Hoglander Bleuger OConnor (excellent 4th line)

Hughes Myers (Only concern is Myers but he had a great season last year)
Byram Petterson (Petterson played on the right in Pitts)
DPetey Willander / Mancini
Sign a depth veteran on the right side

Lankinen
Silovs (who we will lose to waivers most likely otherwise).

If Quinn wants to leavem we move him next offseason, not at the deadline right before UFA. This max'es his value as someone gets him for $6.6, can trade him to NJ at the deadline etc.

We keep all of our young players, got a high 1st C this draft, the get prospects and picks in the trade. This now puts us in position to get high picks for a couple of years. And our team is still very young, with players like Lekker, Raty, Karlsson, Kudratsyev, Mynio, Klimovich etc.

This is how we thread the needle of improving and trying to keep him, with the few assets we have, without trading away a future that seems like we will be forced to use regardless.

I don't think this is a terrible proposal as Hronek is exactly what Buffalo needs. I'd bet they'd also want one of Hoglander or Raty though

Buffalo just acquired Josh Norris for Dylan Cozens , I can’t see them trading him less than 3 months after acquiring him

Norris's injury history could make him more expendable than he'd otherwise be. We'd be assembling a team with 3 players who might be a hit away from LTIRetirement, but that might be the risk needed to have any window at all.

I don't see Norris being moved this quickly from Buffalo and if we are targeting a C from them personally I would like it to be Kulich..........

Byram + Kulich
for
Hronek + Garland + 2nd

or
Byram + Kulich + JJP
for
Hronek + Garland + Lekkermaki + Mancini + 1st

Do the Sabres and Canucks have much of a trade history? The last major deal I can remember was a straight swap of Cody Hodgson for Zack Kassian.

I just don't see the current editions of these teams being much of a great fit either--unless the Sabres are interested in Demko or Hronek, or both.

But the Canucks have a big hole down the middle--and the Sabres don't really have anyone who fits the bill, other than Norris. And after trading Cozens to Ottawa for him, I can hardly see them moving on from him so quickly.

And I just don't understand all the Byram rumors either. The Canuck need scoring up front, not more d-men.
