Not only are they not scoring but they are now giving up goals.

How'd it look after Arniel switched up the wingers.
way better they were actually able to start a cycle with the changes, honestly most of the team actually played fine just the players that were bad were really bad.. it really feels like this is one of those situations where they left them together too long and things got stale

Probably a good thing.
No need to bust their asses for 1st overall.
Just need to stay healthy going into round 1 and flush this game
If the suck in EDM then that may be concerning.
They miss Pionk !
I’d say they should keep busting their ass, but, as long as top of west it doesn’t really matter.
Only ever game matters now in playoffs, but, a slump of multiple games is always a concern.

Ehlers played great - scored a goal, and then hit the crossbar on his second chance.

I’be said it before, and I think the Jets have to make a real effort to sign Ehlers. Without him, we really don’t have much of a 2nd line.

The Jets should throw some money at Ehlers, as he’s an elite player. I think a lot of teams will be trying to sign him as a UFA.

I’d hate to lose Nik, so c’mon Chevy, sign the man.

Tanev and Iafallo have been more impactful than Niederreiter and Appleton so I like that switch, even if it's only temporary for now. May be something that ends up being a more permanent switch down the road...
Niedereitter has done very little over the last 15 games or so, and it was good to see him sent down to the 4th line, and send him a message.

I'm really wondering at what point Appleton sits. If he's not part of the future, and Kupari is, are the Jets going about it wrong by trodding out Appleton game after game?
I've not been a fan of Appleton's from day one, a one-dinensional (straight-line speed) player, IMO. However, I thought that Sipowicz's description of him as AHL Appleton (or something like that) was a bit much. Now, I'm not so sure. Again, just my opinion, but I think that he is the main hindrance on his line now. (lingering effects of previous injury?) I'd be tempted to swap him out for one of the "lesser" 4th line guys and put him in the press box. Kupari or Gustafson in.

There is something to be said for the fact that people were raving about Barron as a 4C and his line with Nino and Appleton looked bad, hemmed in. I don't have a problem with Nino so much because he's going hard to the net, playing the right way. It's hard to see what Appleton is doing right. He's not often winning puck battles, he's clearly not a shot blocker, defensively what is he bringing? I'd start with Kupari. Gus to me is a nice backup for Barron at C, but I'd like to see Kupari's speed unleashed on the wing, so that maybe you can get more of the 4th line grind that worked earlier in the year.

That is if the changes Arniel made stick. Maybe he goes back to his regular 3rd line, who absolutely caved Edmonton in the opener, in a game where Louis De Brusk called them the best checking line in hockey. Something's off with Apples since his injury, I just don't know what it is. Maybe it's the injury itself, maybe it's the future is on his mind, with a young family, maybe he's not sleeping enough.

Game #69 and Arneil finally realizes that AHL Apples and Sleepy Needtorideher are dead weight!

I'd go even further and insert Kupari into the lineup in AHL Apples spot! The supposedly sound defensivley non-scoring forward AHL Apples was on for 3 goals against the Nucks and looked like crap on all 3!

why not lambert for a game or 2 to give the bottom-6 some jump? i also think barron has been playing pretty well as of late and may deserve some more mins

barron-lowry-lambert
gus between 2 of nino, tanev or appleton.

When the wheels come off for this team, they come right off, axels and all...just grinding over the pavement throwing sparks before sliding into the ditch and exploding in a massive fireball.

Appleton's been underwhelming for a while, and he really shit the bed last night. Couldn't make a play to save his life. Small samples and xG questions aside, he was giving up chances at 5v5 like he was on the PK. Just brutal. Sit him for a while. Niederreiter needs to give his head a shake too.

Fleury's not great either. If you're a defenseman getting the same ice time as Appleton did last night, you're doing something wrong. Sit him. Call up Salomonsson.

Tanev was pretty good. I think Arniel waited too long to bench Craps and Needs. Tanev should've been on Lowry's wing (and Appleton on the 4th line) after the 1st period.

Edit: Actually, Appleton did get demoted after the 1st. Had 4 shifts in the 2nd and 2 shifts in the third. Six too many!

Fleury isn't bad either. There's things he can do with his skating that De Melo, Schenn, and Miller just can't do. I thought De Melo had a rougher night, especially after he rung his own bell. I just think Fleury and Miller are struggling together. Been that way all year. With Pionk in a walking boot, looks like there will be some fill ins for awhile.

Do you go Stanley-Miller? Take more speed out of the defense with Pionk already out. I could definitely see Stan and Heinola vs. the Sabres.

I think its smart for the Jets to give Heinola a run of games here. He's the only 'offensive' guy that we have available should 4 or 44 miss games in the post season.

Unlovely stuff.

I understand that the Jets can't win them all, but Suffering Mother of the Gods that one was difficult.

One of the first real Dostoevsky style games I've seen in a long time.

Very busy work day (today) so I did not catch the second and third periods. My kids told me all about it and I've gleaned the same from what's posted here.

Perhaps, as someone said, we are missing Pionk a little?

One (of many) violent shot to the gonads for me, was the 19:57 goal in the first period by his most Excellent Fool Hogliner.
