Post-Game Talk: CANUCKS 3 Preds 1 (Hoglander, Karlsson, Suter)

Posting it here too: Hughes up to 24 points more than Miller, which if it holds I believe would break the previous defenseman team points lead record of 23 by Ray Bourque (unless I have missed something).

EDIT: Never mind, fake news. Karlsson got 34.
I think from the Canucks POV, the last time a Canucks defenseman led the team in scoring (points) was in 89-90 (Paul Reinhart).

EP, JT and Brock are staying.
Demko is back.
Going all in at the TDL.
Juulsen needs to stay in Nashville.
He just sucks, better see D-Petey next game. Top four solid again and did anyone else notice EP and JT conversing while passing a lot more to each other?

Maybe JR spilling the beans embarrassed them and they decided to stop acting like little beaches?

Lots of positives and what a scary thought when we get the real Demko to go along with Lankinen.

Grub coming back = turning point of the season

i just looked it up: at the 50 game mark, karlsson was 16 pts up on meier at #2 on the sharks

bobby orr in 1970 (his first art ross year) was 13 pts up on phil esposito

there’s no obvious potvin or coffey or bourque year that would be close to a 24 pt margin at the 50 game mark. i do believe what hughes is doing here is unprecedented.
Meier was traded at the deadline though right?

So Karlsson ended up being way ahead because they traded the guy closest to him.

The turtle was ugly, but the refs were really trying their best to get the Preds a 2nd goal. Absolutely ridiculous amount of infractions ignored, as the Preds were highsticking constantly and diving all over the place. Disgusting.

And what was Forsberg thinking? Bitching at the refs when he literally jumped on Demko deep in the crease. So damn stupid.

Got the win, and Hughes another 2. Nice.

Oh, and f*** the refs

Craig Button predicting that it's likely nothing happens on the Miller-Pettersson trade front until the off-season. I think he's probably right.

Tocchet was pretty luke-warm in his post-game presser about the win. He could see the same thing we all saw in the second and third periods.

Tough game coming up in Dallas on Friday night. But amazingly, they're only two points back of L.A. for third in the Pacific, although the Kings have two games in hand.

Forbort Hronek looks surprisingly solid recently. The newest revelation is that Forbort is showing better than Soucy, who looks cooked.
People kind of forgot about Forbort because of all the missed games but he's playing exactly like Bruins fans said, solid in his zone and elite pker.

Soucy is cooked but his best two games were with D-Petey so I hope they go back to that.

Hughes with 10 points in his last 6 games. Scored or assisted on 7 of our last 10 goals... the guy is the entire team its crazy. He can get to 100 but it will be tough for him to increase his rate as games tighten up at the end. If he never got hurt he definitely gets there since his current rate over 82 games gets him over 100.

44 points in 32 games is asking a lot though, but hes been on such a heater he could make that a lot easier for himself real soon. Probably finishes off around where he was last year in the mid to low 90s.
To be quite honest, I think Hughes putting up points like this is a result of sub-optimal play on his part and is to the detriment of his teammates. Remember 2 years ago when the narrative was that Hughes had everything but a good shot and could stand to both develop a harder shot and shoot more? Well he has corrected too far in the shoot more category. Far too much of the Canucks' offense runs through getting him the puck at the point when he is on the ice, and it shows in the shot locations. As good as Hughes is, the Canucks would be far better off with someone who isn't shooting from the point 90% of the time taking the 8 shot attempts a game that Hughes throws at the net. Hughes has 14 goals, but only 2 unblocked high danger shot attempts all season (MoneyPuck), which is ~10% of the rest of the top 20 scorers in the league. Makar has 13 for comparison. He needs to start deferring more often to forwards, or at least to players that are in better scoring positions. It starts with Hughes, but the Canucks as a team need to take advantage of the fact that he is such a threat to beat his man from the blueline in that teams will cheat to cover him, which will create openings for other players.

I thought Joshua again was horrible he needs to be in Abby for a stint. I thought everyone but him and Soucy/Juulson played good enough as it seemed 90% of the preds shots 5on5 came with those 3 on the ice.

Would like to see Raty in over Joshua and Aman in for Digissepe

Pius Suter has tied Canucks legend Mark Messier (and various others) for 35th in franchise history with 2 empty net goals

Ya but where does Suter rank in ENPPG?

Best Demko has looked since things happened.

2 good pairings >> 1 good pairings. Bout time ffs.

EP40 + JTM still the best path to glory. So effin stupid.

Sad to celebrate low bars like a 3 game win streak , but 🥳🥳🥳

Now let's catch LAK.

Still need to add a top4 dman, regardless whatever else happens.

Yeah I feel like he probably was one of those lockeroom vets that kept the vibes good. That was a big mistake not keeping him for at least 1 more season.
But we can probably re acquired players like him if we are going to contend, it's not the end of the world

Glad they got the win but dumping it out hockey is not championship hockey. At some point you get a bad bounce and its 2-1 preds instead, your basically rolling the roulette wheel playing that style.

Demko was good and this wont be popular but i still feel he was out of position at times and had some bad rebounds but the preds simply missed or flubbed the shot or screwed up.

I still feel more confident with lanks in net.
