Canuck Killers and Killer Canucks

There's certain players that have had our number over the decades

Less noticed by our fanbase are the Canucks that get into the heads of the opposition especially against specific teams. To he point of irrationality. In some cases, these are players who come out against their former teams or against their hometown.

for example

Canuck Killers
Gretzky as a Canuck Killer is the most obvious. But rather than just being up for the game or getting into the heads of the fans it just seemed like when he broke a record, it was against us.

Two Canuck killers that come to mind for me are, Milan Hejduk and Marian Gaborik.

John Gibson and Cam Talbot until recently were Canuck killers. Always seemed like it was near impossible for the Canucks to put one past Gibson.

Joe Sakic always lit up the lamp whenever he played the Canucks. Then again who didn't on the Avs, at one point the loss for the Canucks was almost guaranteed against Colorado.

Jarome Iginla would usually get a goal against the Canucks and make himself noticeable in some way everytime the Nucks and Flames played. Iginla's fights against Mitchell and Kelser were beauties.

Off the top of my head:

Canuck Killers:

Hejduk, Brunette, Rolston immediately come to mind.

Also any 4th string goalie playing their first NHL game, pretty much a guaranteed loss.

Killer Canucks:

Sedins against the Oilers and the Leafs (Burrows was great into the Leafs as well)
Petey against Ottawa
Boeser against LA and Pittsburgh
Hughes against the NHL

Hejduk is the ultimate for me. He was always a good player, but always seemed to play like a Hall of Famer against the Canucks.

For Killer Canucks - the Twins had pretty excellent numbers against Edmonton and Calgary - ditto for Markus Naslund.

I think Petey is also a PPG plus against Calgary and LA.

EDIT: Burrows against Toronto is a good one, too. He was money on HNIC games.

Doug Weight was always trouble for us. He came into everyone of our games motivated and I remember watching him behind the bench when losing explaining to whoever would listen, coach or player beside him, how he could score. He did. They won the game.

Can't believe no one has mentioned him yet. Definitely a guy we wished we had on our team.

I want to say Curtis Sanford.
He was on a woefully awful Blues team that was noted for scoring on their own net when they pulled their netminder for an extra attacker on an upcoming power play.
However, when they played the Canucks Sanford? was always up for it and it was the only team they were guaranteed to win.
The Canucks pick him to backup Lou and he was overjoyed to get out of St Louis only to find out that Bobby didn't not like to play so he was relagated to 16 games that year and injured himself in the next. Canucks were basically like a company buying out the competition just so they could rid of a competitor.

We haven't played him a lot, and a lot of this is a product of the timing, but Guentzel has killed the Canucks ever since he stepped foot into the NHL. Just always terrorizes us. No idea what the stats are but I just feel like he scored every time.

Kyle Connor also scores a lot on us.

Since someone already mentioned Byfuglien, Patrick Kane absolutely killed us in those 09 and 10 series. 9 goals in 12 games.

Really opening up old wounds. These wounds won’t seem to heal. This pain is just to real. There is so much that time cannot erase.

JT Miller only matured into a ppg player in the back half of his career, but he has put up >ppg against the Oilers, Kings, Coyotes/Utah Hockey Team overall.

Other than who's been mentioned, when I think of Canuck killers, I think of Marty Turco. Even when Vancouver beat the Stars in the playoffs in 06/07 Turco had a .952 save% and 3 shutouts.
