The 1st and 3rd goal were both cases of Kochetkov making a poor decision. He may not have had much of a chance either way on the first goal, but losing his stick and sitting on his ass gave him zero chance. Maybe he was just extra pumped about his chance to grab the reigns so was a bit too excited. We know he’s going to be feisty and aggressive, he just needs to be smarter about when to do so. That should come with more time.

Or maybe he's just stupid. Can't fix stupid.

Jk - hopefully its what you said.

Just saw the replay and I will say I'm honestly impressed that Kooch ALMOST got back over in time for the save...would have been epic if he had

The worst part is that Jarvis was in position and would have intercepted the pass from Sprong (?), but Kotchetkov tipped it away towards Suter on the way back towards the net.

It was a bad play, but from what I saw of the highlights, Kochetkov also made a handful of outstanding saves. So much so that I wouldn't say he outright had a bad game. In any case Andersen has been the better goalie so far this year. We'll need them both.

Last night's game does make me wish we went out and got Kevin Lankinen though. I've always thought he was a good goalie, back from our days playing Chicago in the ole' Central Division.

He did have some good saves. But that's what made the decision funnier. He had already made some more traditional saves a few times with guys coming in on him more or less alone, so you'd think he'd try that again. But it's like he's got some sort of video game limit gauge that filled up with each regular save to the point where it was time to do something bat shit crazy.

He's still plenty capable of being a starter, but I think he should stick more towards surpise diving poke checks that still leave him essentially in the crease over that.

He caused two goals with his choices that were over aggressive and unnecessary. He can make amazing saves all game, but those become less relevant when he hands goals back - especially down the stretch when we’re holding onto a lead. If we gave that tie point to a team in the playoff race in the last games of the season it could have big consequences. I’d like to think he wouldn’t do it in those games, but at the same time there’s no reason to think he wouldn’t do it in those games. He’s fun because he’s a wild card, it’s hard to trust him because he’s a wild card.

I also would love to see him not get any more crazy than a poke check and keep his butt in the net the rest of the season.

It’s funny to claim that he “caused” that last goal. Say he had stayed in the net and Sprong simply sniped one past on the breakaway. Would he still be the cause of that goal?

The team gave up a breakaway at an inopportune time after struggling to handle Vancouver’s increased pressure all 3rd period. PK saw Sprong have a solid step on Chatfield and saw Sprong have his head down as he chased down the puck. He’s going to take the opportunity to surprise opposing players in that situation 99/100 times. It didn’t work out this time (well, it did, but Sprong was able to corral it afterwards). Doesn’t mean he should stop trying it, since it’s his style of play, and as @Navin R Slavin mentioned earlier, the last time we tried to get him to play “safe”, he was awful.

I think the fact that he immediately made a game-winning save on DeBrusk shortly after giving up that 3rd one speaks volumes. He was able to put it behind him and focus on the game, even when the team STILL struggled to defend in front of him.

As a few of us has mentioned, there is a lot of space between playing too safe and what he did. He can make a routine (for him) aggressive poke check, he can attack aggressively like he did on the first goal and at least not make things quite so low percentage, he can try to make a normal, athletic save as he did a number of times in the game.

All of those are great ways to be himself but not make it such a low percentage proposition. It certainly might work sometimes to try the play he did, but it's a much lower percentage play, not to mention one that could lead to an injury as we saw once upon a time. He gets beat on one of those other plays, he has nothing to worry about, not his f*** up, it was the D. He gets beat doing what he did, a huge amount of the blame shifts to him.

Interesting, quite a few Canuck posters are "done" with EP and are willing to move him.
True, but hf fans are fickle. Not long ago, many Canes fans wanted Necas gone.

EP will come around they'll love him again. Necas will have a cold spell and fans will call for him being moved again. It's why Fans do.

Not gonna lie, seeing Blake try that spin move wearing number 53 reminded me of when Skinner tried a similar move (albeit higher in the zone in center ice) against Andy Sutton.
Was that the time he ate an elbow? I believe I have a memory of that. I think it was in years 2-3 where he started trying to cut to the middle and was greeted in the fashion of the time.

That was Sweet. It was unneccessary that Nucks tight the Game. But Canes did it well in ot.
Was another Great Game by the Canes. What a successful road Trip. They even could have won in St. Louis… but I am Vers satisfied how they Play, Shoot on the goal from several Position and dominate the Game. Love it. happy to See also how roslovic performes.
