GDT: Canes @ That Toronto Team We Always Have Supes Normal Games Against (7PM)

This team has one good game, a few where we barely eek out wins, and then shit like this.

People are not lucid thinking we are a contender. We aren't. And rantanen has been shit while Necas has been great elsewhere. I think the obvious is obvious.
Inconsistent all year not starting games on time giving up a goal on the first 3 shots rarely playing with a lead. Deciding to play in the third period when the game is out of reach

Wasn't some of his signing business optics at play, too? At the time, landing Burns was a big deal, i.e. getting a guy with a known, well-liked brand to play here and all that comes with that? In addition to the expected on ice results, I think the Rantanen situation is the next iteration of doing it for the overall stature of the business - even if they don't exactly know how to best utilize him within the current roster yet.

I can't imagine they expected quite as much of the will he/won't he sign press and social rumblings to taint his big launch though.

Probably right but naive of the Canes to think that the big clubs/agents wouldn't meddle.

I firmly believe that the first blogger out of Toronto that started the "firestorm" was selected by a club to start the FUD speculation.

WELL… I COULD SAY IT’S BECAUSE DEFENSE REGRESSED AND WE STILL LACK GOALTENDING THAT WARRANTS CONFIDENCE IN PLAY-OFFS.

But I can say it’s because we have too many Skaven on the team and no Dwarves.

plus no more top PP time

btw: year one, Burns was a star, LY mediocre, this year garbage.

Canes are correct in not wanting to extend players too long in their 30's but they sure made a mistake on this one.
Every team makes mistakes. The key question is, how much does the mistake cost, and how easily is it corrected? This is Burns's last year, and the cap hit is, what, $5m?

He certainly doesn't look great right now, but that's not a management problem at this point. The problem is Rod playing him first line minutes when he looks more like a third pairing D -- where he would be more appropriately priced.
