Saw skinner-Hainsey-liles and thought 'this is how it ends'

Bad rebound, but enjoyed skinner starting to break up the ice as his guy put home the rebound.

Don't mind two dmen on the ice when it's Faulk and Slavin. Hate it with Hainsey and Liles. Hate for it to end like that for Ward in a decent game, but not a great rebound. They had chances to convert all night and couldn't though, so it doesn't really come down to that.

Yeah, you knew it was over when they had a 3-on-1 in OT and just managed a shot straight to the chest of Talbot. The offense was lacking all night and that play summed it up.

I will say, I love watching Slavin play. He hasn't had a lot of points to show for it yet, but he has really nice puck skills and makes some nice passes.

Pesce played that two on one quite well.

And with Hanifin's skating and poise, he really creates a lot. He needs to work on his shot some more for sure, but you can see offensive upside there, which I know was a concern for some experts.

Never thought I'd be enjoying these three in the lineup this year, but I do like watching them play, even with the occasional growing pains.

Well on the bright side, Wardo stopped that weird bounce off the board in the 3rd. God knows how many dumb goals like that late in the game have gone in over the years for the Canes.

I had been wondering why in the hell Hanifin was stalled to the bench in OT in prior games. 3 on 3 he can just literally out skate everyone into a scoring chance from behind his own face off circles. And he did it twice.

It's a good thing I DVRed and watched in an hour this morning or I'd be really pissed off. I know it's hard to score in the NHL, but it sure as **** isn't hard to score on the Oilers missing Klefbom.

Why exactly did Peters go with 2 D and 1 F in this OT? I don't recall him doing that in past OT. It's not like we would win a shootout, so you might as well go for it in OT. I don't get the 2 D at all, makes no sense to me.

Oh well now on to Vancouver. Cam wanted Edmonton, he got it and played well. Let's see if Lack can now beat his old team and get us 2 points.

Its time for the coaching staff to take the leash off of Hanifin. the kid can flat out skate and oozes elite potential.... Show him confidence and he will produce big time.....

Don't want to jinx it, but since mid-December (9 games: 6 for Ward, 3 for Lack), the Canes goalies have put up the following numbers:

SV%: 0.941 (.939 for Ward, .944 for Lack)
GAA: 1.56 (1.5 for Ward, 1.66 for Lack)
W/L: 4-3-2

I know it's a small sample size, but nice not having to complain about that. I think part of it though is defense/game play. After scoring in bunches for a few games, the Canes are playing a much tighter game which is in turn limiting scoring chances. Over that stretch, they have only scored 15 goals which comes to 1.667 goals per game (amazing how that number keeps coming up  )

Still, the goaltending has been noticeably better IMO so lets hope it keeps up.

It probably isn't the coaching staff, it's probably Hanifin himself. Pesce and Slavin, for instance, are much more aggressive offensively than Hanifin has been and all the defensemen talk about how Peters wants them jumping into the play and maintaining tight gaps, so I don't think the coaches are holding Hanifin back. I'm guessing as Hanifin is playing it a bit conservatively until he gets more comfortable in his own ability at this level. Once he does, he'll become more aggressive. I've already seen that start to occur.
