Why is this even a debate? Without McGinn's dazzling good looks we wouldn't even be where we are right now.

Don't forget the most popular Storm Surge the McGinn Thor Hammer Slam that started our epic climb to 99 points and WC1.
Not that people don't have him rated high, but I really feel like Staal is being slept on. His GWG and GTG are the only reason Brock had his moment. And then to start the next series off with a win considering how beat up and tired we were is monumental. And his GWG against the Caps wasn't just like a 1st period goal that went on to be the winner, it was the deciding goal in the third period. Pair that 3 game stretch of being crucial to icing the defending champs and starting of the next series off on the right foot with his all around play, and I have to give it to him so far.
Slavin
Turbo
Staal

3 - Staal
4 - Mrazek

I'd have Turbo 6th, for the record. You listed five guys and none of them are Foegele.
You listed five guys and none of them are Teravainen.
This is why I love this team and this run. It's truly about the crest on the front. We can't even agree on a *top 5*.
Yeah, that's total BS. I laid out my case for Staal and I stand by it. Slavin has been great, but he hasn't been immune from some rough turnovers on clears and some bad plays in conjunction with Hamilton, specifically in the Washington series. He's been great defensively and racked up some assists, but I'll take Staal being the Slavin of the forwards and scoring some huge goals. It's not by some huge margin, but to say that it's just to be a contrarian is stupid.Slavin is the answer. Anything else is a hipster pick (contrarian for the sake of being contrarian).
That being said several guys have been playing lights out:
Staal
Foegele
TT

The amount of work that Slavin has almost single handedly done to eliminate shots off the stick of the shooter has been staggering. Seems like every game he's making some sneaky small play that completely blows up an offensive chance and immediately turns it into a outlet attack for us.Yeah, that's total BS. Slavin's 11 assists are indeed impressive, but in the end, they are, literally, assists. And despite what they tell you growing up, and assist is *not* as good as a goal (a walk isn't as good as a hit, either, but that's for another board). Jordan's four goals have all been huge and puts him at least on par with Slavin statistically, IMO.

He's my MVP so far not because of the things he's doing for us, but what he's doing to shut down the opposition, especially when he's routinely iced against the top line. He's such a neutralizing force out there, and we're lucky to have him locked up as long as we do for as little as we do. In my opinion, he's neutralizing 2-3 Grade A chances on his own per game, its staggering.
I made a perfectly valid argument for Staal.
Agreed. Hamilton of course played a big part in that at times, but there were some flat out brutal plays that he would normally make with ease against Washington. He cleaned a lot of that up in the Isles series, but he did have some problems with clears, especially early in the series when we were super fatigued. Goalies and posts bailed those out, so it doesn't feel as bad. Ultimately he's been way more good than bad, but he hasn't been a defensive God at all times. I also think that our entire defense has been pretty darn effective with their sticks and neutralizing plays at times, and we've had an amazing forecheck and backcheck at most times that has made it so Slavin's defense doesn't stand out to me quite as much as it normally would. The whole team is playing at that high level. So, I'm just leaning towards the big events late in one series, and early in another that turned into a sweep that puts Jordan ahead a bit to me.Slavin had some horrific plays in the Washington series that were part of goals. His assist totals are pretty nice but I don’t see a different offensive game there. He’s just moving the puck like he always does.
Still id put him up there. Foegele made a run at it. Williams has been awesome. We’re a “team”. I don’t know that any of them have really stood out that much.
Kind of my point in doing this, but if I told you on Jan. 1 that we we'd be a day away from starting the Eastern Conference finals and *nobody's* list of top five players to this point in the playoffs would include Sebastian Aho, what would you have said?
