Wow, was not expecting someone to take Rask. Nino is a bit more expensive, but getting someone who can actually contribute in exchange for a dead-weight contract is great.

Wonder if this is a bit of insurance for Ferland...Nino's basically got 4 years left at 5.25 per.

More salary but one fewer year, so total owed is about the same. This feels like Fenton just got mad and found someone who would take Nino's contact. Change of scenery for both guys.

Niederreiter's 5.84 P/60 on the PP would be 2nd on the Canes behind Aho (6.13) and ahead of Ferland (5.48), TT (5.05), and Williams (4.78). At least he should be a factor there.

Canes need to add a couple $5+M forwards. Not just swap them out. Getting rid of Rask's $4 million was a boon for the payroll. Canes should use that to improve rather than tread.

At face value it’s great.

A) we get the guy more likely to rebound.

B) Nino is much faster so we get quicker, as just subtracting Rask makes us quicker.

C) gives a little room at center now that all of Bishop, Wallmark and Mckegg have all shown themselves to be useful.

D) Rask has been struggling to find a place anywhere since last year.


Bad?

A) Ferland maybe gone. I don’t feel better because of Nino.

B) Nino makes more money so if he doesn’t turn it around that’ll hurt.

Sure, but having two guys like Nino and Ferland at that number is not ideal to me. It seems kinda redundant to keep both.

If Rask's hand can recover properly, this could still work out for Minnesota. But weren't the Wild (players/fans, can't remember) complaining about being slow as a team earlier this season? Rask certainly won't help out there.
