I don't know if Aho would've been given a fair chance in Toronto, with all the great rookies there this season. It took him like 20 games to figure stuff out, Babs would've probably not had the patience.

I'm not sure about that. Babcock has no patience for guys that don't play both ways and Aho does that very well. Even so, I wasn't necessarily talking about this season when I mentioned all those guys on 1 team, I meant longer term.

I think the faceoff was in our zone because that's where the puck was when the play was dead and since it would still be even strength, it wouldn't change.

And I'm guessing Faulk's slash was before the too many men? (speculation)
You're right about the face off, but in the replay neither ref called the too many men penalty, so it must've been the linesman, which would've come after the Faulk slash.

They blew the whistle before the Faulk slash. If you slash somebody after the whistle it isn't any less of a slash. You can't just decide the slash didn't effect the play or whatever.

I get all the hindsight stuff, but I happen to believe him here. First off, there are 100s of times where a team picks a guy right before a stud gets picked (Boychuk, Karlsson for instance). Very rarely do I hear a GM/Coach come out and say that they seriously considered the other guy, especially so close to the draft like this. Secondly, it make sense they were looking at both a forward and a defenseman in that spot. Lastly, wasn't there talk that someone shortly after us wanted Aho (or am I confusing that with a different draft?)

At the Draft NJ picked right after the Canes and looked visibly pissed when the Canes took Aho. They eventually traded away their pick I believe.

Babcock is just bragging in hindsight. Same as every GM/Owner/Coah in the NFL who apparently banged the table for Russell Wilson and lost, that story comes out frequently.

Oh, I was just kidding with you....mostly. :sarcasm:

I actually kind of take it as a compliment. The Leafs have got great young talent and their scouts seem to have turned a corner much like ours.

I think it was Jersey that wanted Aho, at least that's what I had heard.

Great win, I fell asleep after 1st period lol (not because it was boring, but because it was late)

Refs were pretty bad at this one, but I guess that`s normal now at NHL

Yeah I was hoping for someone else (Bittner?) instead of Aho. I will happily eat crow, Aho is the man.

That second goal, you can't teach that.

The Flyers had zero'ed in on Bobby Sanguinetti in 2006 and the Rangers picked him one spot before Philly could. A distraught Bobby Clarke was so upset by this he messed up the name of the player that he settled for; Claude Giroux.
