Confirmed with Link: Canadiens Sign Tyler Thorpe to 3-Year ELC (2025-26) + Signs AHL PTO

Maybe not the most impressive junior season, but he's a big kid. We know big kids need more time.

Still totally up in the air as to what is the floor, what is the ceiling, but great signing considering the good work that's being done in Laval. I have quite a bit of hope for a 6'5", physical, 35-40pts kind of guy :)

Wow...you already know he won't be able to compete in the AHL...
He reminds me a bit of Florian: once he gets going he has passable speed. But like Florian, unless he adds quickness to his skating, Thorpe will have trouble establishing an effective offensive presence at the NHL level.

Seems like this org has finally learned that if you are gonna gamble on late round picks it’s better to go after size because if nothing you can at least hope they can provide some sandpaper on the 4th line.

The petit gars the chez nous picks that Bozovin was so fond of never amounted to anything because if they couldn’t score they couldn’t provide anything else.

Makes sense. We didn't sign basically any forwards from the last few Bergevin drafts. Need bodies and basically drafted no forwards from 2022-23. Probably why we went for an overager last year to begin with.

Good job kid. Keep it going.

Historically I have hated drafting these guys when big and physical were the only attributes they brought. They need at least another quality or two, preferably a decent skater and an okay shot are two good ones.

I see us taking guys like Florian Xhekaj, Thorpe and Tuch and think yes, this is a decent pool. Just one of these guys making it can be impactful to the bottom 6.

The team will be stacked next year, prefer he gets ice time than risk being in press box. He didn't dominate WHL this year. A bunch of guys went through ECHL before AHL (Brazeau, Pezz etc)

Laval has been stacked this year, too. They didn't send any of their prospects to the ECHL. They won't do it with Thorpe, either.

Montreal is affiliated with 3R, but they don't run that team. Of course if they send a prospect there, they'll give directives. However, keeping the prospects in Laval means they are hands on in their development. Adam Nicholas and Scott Pellerin, Paul Byron, and Alex Burrows can all get on the ice and work with them, as well as do video sessions.

Also, this whole they need to dominate at a lower level or else they're not ready is not really an honest approach. The guy still put up 27 goals and 52 pts in 68 GP this year and had 3 pts in 5 playoff games. It's not because he's not a PPG that he needs to start at a lower level in the pros.

Wow. Laval is really loading up for the playoffs. I think Thorpe will be better than most people think. That could be a hell of a 4th line to deal with in the ahl!

They don’t have a lot of guys (if any) graduating from junior next year. I agree. I highly doubt players will be going to TR.

I was hoping he would go to Laval after his season ended. They had another year to sign him, so I guess they liked his year.

I thought he'd play a 20 year old junior season, but maybe not. This doesn't prevent that, though.

Good signing.

To be fair it's not like TR is that long of a drive from MTL but I do understand all your points. Kidney would have benefited from time in ECHL last year.

When I asked Anthony Marcotte the other day, he told me that the Canadiens liked his rookie camp last year and his season in the WHL.

Good signing.

I had a feeling they would sign him to turn pro like they did with Florian last year. He also could have went back to play his overage season in the OHL. But it became clear that they wanted to keep him in Laval.

Unless Thorpe shits the bed at the rookie and main camp, I don't see them send him back to Junior. They'll want him to develop where they can be hands on.
