Confirmed with Link: Canadiens re-sign Andreas Martinsen

most utility players are...that's why they're more often healthy scratches

Well...not the ones that are actually good in that role and really helping the team?

If and when Hudon makes the NHL, it won't be as a utility player...so no, they weren't preventing Hudon from playing.

Strange 'cause I'm sure that's how they used Andrighetto, another guy who shouldn't be used as utility player and he was. So you can be sure that IF Hudon makes it, it won't be in a top 6 role. Not right off the bat. As some in here loved to say about Ghetto, he will have TO EARN IT!!!!

So what you're saying is you would of been OK had Bergevin done this move in late July instead?

Like the Bobby Farnham signing? What were your thoughts on that deal? Did the fact he signed July 22nd, 2016, make it more acceptable for you?

Well kinda don't you think? At least it gives you that impression that he looked elsewhere and wasn't able to do **** so he went with what was left? And the fact that Farnham signs a 2-way deal...that somehow didn't seem like he was stealing anybody's place.

any examples? and by utility players...i'm not necessarily refering to Casey Cizikas here.

i'm talking about players in similar situations as Martinsen...guys on 1yr deal making near league minimum

I'd say Charles Hudon has earned it

so that's the big deal here? That he signed him June 5th as opposed to July 22nd?

Lord help me

What about the fact it's a 1-way instead of a 2-way?

Why should we refrain from going after guys like that? Is this a new prerequisite that I'm not aware of? Going after guys, signed on 1-year contract, making near league minimum? I mean, if it is, then my bad. Might as well sign the devil you know that the devil you don't....but since it's absolutely not....what's your point man? Are we already at the end of our salary cap with only 700k left hence the signing?

Yeah, if the Lord can help you understand, it would be really appreciated. No idea why you say it's the big deal when I explained to you my point of view, to which you even took the time to dissect it, like only you can do, and THEN reply to me now saying that THIS is the big deal? You are just doing that on purpose. And I fell for it.

Couldn't have found better on the market, obviously :sarcasm:

The guy must be a great person.

Let's just trade the players we developed as part of the system, they suck!

he's also now available to be exposed in the expansion draft. Maybe a cheap 4th line option for the Knights?

I think he is not available for the expansion draft, in fact we do not have to take up a spot to keep him. He is considered only a second year pro, believe it or not.

More incredibly, he is a UFA, not an RFA!! This might be one of the only players in the league with that combination of statuses.

He was RFA. He will be UFA at the end of the 2017-2018 season.

Well naturally...wouldn't it be fair to compare apples to apples?

He's being paid like a 13th forward... compare him to most teams 13th forward, I'd say it's it's all the same...wouldn't you?

I guess john scott wasnt available, so burningbin did this move. Its incredible that each signing and people are seem to imagine this is the first time seeing a move from marc. While for some of us it just highlights a long long long pattern of terribleness. I hate this because it again show how bad our development has been. Why are we not even capable of developing a 13th forward(who likely will see more icetime than most of you belive). Not like we want guys to develop as we would just trade them for moar kharacter instead. Horrid trade and stupid signing. Yet the management defnese league is out in full force to defend this crap show.

Ditto.

With facts available to all of us, the timing of the signing makes no sense.

It seems like this contract is essentially equal to his QO which would have to be 110% of his former salary. So sounds like he got an extra 5K.

Timing makes sense. MB threw out the lowest possible contract to a player who he owned his rights and the player took it no questions asked. Either that or Martinsens wait till his QO came in at 670K and signed that.

Wow, this thread has 13 pages already? Who cares, Andreas Martinsen wont be blocking anyone if they show in camp they are better. Just covering the bases.

So...he shouldn't be a regular then? He should only be playing 20-30 games a year if he ever plays? See Tom Pyatt makes 800k and without any hesitation, I'd take him over Martinsen.

Listen, call me skeptic and I have every right to be. He didn't sign him 'cause he thinks he's the 13th forward. They have to see him as a regular. You want to compare apples to apples, well find me a guy who was sign in June with the sole purpose to be the 13th forward and you will have a lot of trouble to do so.

And Andrew O'Brien you talked about before....2-way contract. Again, 1-way vs 2-way, I couldn'T care less about the fact that Molson will have to pay the guy if he does in the miniors. What I have against is the fact that in their head, they do NOT do 1-ways to guys they'll send in the minors. Yes, it will happen, and when it does, we will be happy 'cause il will mean we are going to be a better team....but until then, I have a right to not be a fan. Didn't like him with us past the 1st game, not sure why I should be fine with it after.

Martinsen was solid on the fourth line; personally don't have any issue with him coming back especially if he replaces a guy like Flynn.

Has raw tools and a good attitude as far as we've seen. No risk and maybe Julien can help get the most out of him to create a quality 4th line like his team's have had in the past
