Thank goodness that Kovalev did it (barely, he had 84 pts) or else we would have had to go back to 1995-1996 for a PPG season.

Also so people understand how pathetic the team was in the late 90's-early 00', there was a stretch of 3 years where no player even hit 50 pts in a season (98-99, 99-00, 00-01).

Btw personally I have been a Habs fan for only 2 weeks so far. But I feel the history, due to being a Porin Ässät fan between around 1994-2016. Very similar depressive fandom it has seemingly been for Habs fans as well. Very similar colours too, its been an easy transition.

And yet they made a Stanley Cup Final in that span. Leafs have had 5 in recent years and the farthest we made is the 2nd round. f***in clown franchise, led by locker room cancer Marner.

On the bright side, we’re favorites to win the cup this year.

When are you guys going to trade Marner for some studs?

He disappears and is useless in the playoffs.

Let me tell you. If you were a Habs fan.. and I was a Leafs fan.. and you would come to a Leafs-thread to say something like that... I would be triggered as heck! I would get so angry that I would freaking SHOUT on the top of my lungs like "you freaking asshole Imma find you and Imma put the slap on your ass!" 😡

For sure, especially with the more offensive system we've been playing. I think that Suzuki, Hutson, Caufield, Slafkovsky, Hage will be point per game players, too.
Hage really? Why?

I thought he was projected to hopefully be a 50 point guy.

To everyone on HF who thinks that their team has had it tough, think about this:

No team besides the Canadiens or the Ducks have not had a point per game player since the 2021-22 season.
The Canadiens have an NHL leading 24 Stanley Cup championships...

For the record, I like the Habs but I don't exactly feel sorry for their fans.

The Kings haven't had a full season at a pt/gp since the 2017-18 season

Fiala had 72 in 69 but he's never been a pt/gp player and give him a full 82 he wouldn't have been either

and if you excuse Kopitar's miraculous 92pt season (2017-18) despite having nobody to play with, you have to go alllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way back to ... 2003???:help:

No team has a dried up offense more than the Kings... and they've been doing ok , all considering
Coyotes had been pretty horrible (I know Keller has had some good years recently though). There were a lot of years where top scorer was in the 40's.

The last time the Ducks had one was in 2017-18 (Getzlaf).

The last time the Habs have had one was Alexei Kovalev, in.. 2007-08.

Thank goodness we have Demidov now..

Edit:

More fun stats (thanks @Deaner)

The last 40 goal scorer for the team was Vincent Damphousse in 1993-94.

The last 100 point player was Mats Naslund in 1985-86.

But what about their younger fans. I'm old enough to have been a big hockey fan during 2 of their wins (hockey fan.....not Montreal fan)....but 22 of their 24 cups came in the 70's or earlier. Their last cup was 32 years ago.

Toronto is the more glaring example of this though.....they are #2 all time in cup wins, but very few fans were actually alive the last time they won.

I was born 4 years after the Oilers last cup run (see username for reference) so I get ya. Still, both of us have been fortunate enough to at least see our teams have long playoff runs. Anyway, I'm confident Caufield will finish a season at a point per game pace at some point soon.

The Leafs are a different matter altogether. My mom was wearing diapers the last time they won the cup. It's been a really long while for them. Their fans have had it considerably worse. No cup runs, not even any appearances in the conference final since 2004... That's brutal. Matthews has 60+ a couple times though. So that's fun. Even so when it comes to my team, I value team playoff success over player success 10/10.

The Habs history is really strange, having been loaded with generational players for over 60 years nonstop (Morenz ‘24 to Lafleur ‘85) then having no real offensive star at any point in the past 40.

If you look at their franchise ranking, the only high ranked guys post-1980s are Saku Koivu and Tomas Plekanec, career highs 75 and 70 points respectively. It would be odd for any franchise, but especially the Habs are the last one you’d have expected to go through such a drought.
We forgot how to draft at some point, and played rigid defensive styles of play that stifled creativity.

Don't want to rain on any parades here, but Cutter Gauthier was P/PG last season (23/24) for the Ducks.

Kirby Dach, Logan Mailloux, and Lane Hutson were P/PG for the Canadiens last season as well.

We didn't forget how to draft, player development was absolutely horrendous. Who knows what those players would have been like under this management. Also Koivu didn't get a sniff of the talent this team has through his whole career. The man had to carry the garbage Gainey scrounged up.

He definitely has point per game potential, no idea if he will reach it though.

He's doing very well in Michigan in his first season with no one of note to play with. Seen most of his plays, they're all high skill.

Not sure about Slaf. I think the best bet are Caufield, Hutson, Suzuki and Demidov.
