Jim Hughson makes Gold Medal games and Stanley Cup Finals' games sound like they are game 47 of the regular season. This is nothing new and no surprise. Same monotone, generic play by play calling. No legendary emotion, no excitement--just a robotic ****.

Yeah, this definitely did not help things. He's just flat.

2010 was a nail biter and everyone went through a roller coaster of emotions, sure victory, heart sinking with 21 seconds left and then jubilation when Sid scored. all that at home for canada with so much pressure - once in a lifetime.

this time, we dominated, but it was nevertheless hostile hockey territory due to our history with Russia.

Lucky for us, the final started at 8pm in Hong Kong, the hockey bars were full of Canadians and a few quiet Swedes.

overall a very nice atmosphere as well, but surely not the same as in 2010.

While you're on the right track here is it isn't really just about home ice. Unless a person happens to live in Vancouver in which its a rare chance to celebrate anything..

Its about time zones. I was as pumped for the Salt Lake win as I was for the Vancouver win and the celebrations were much the same across the country.

The muted celebration this year is due to the win taking place when most of the country was asleep. Obviously.

The game started at 5am MST. Really about the worst possible start time for a Canadian audience.

I blame Luongo, everyone played their part perfectly, just playing enough to squeak by every game, except for him. He should have let in 5 goals to make the Austria game closer, to complete the illusion that this team was just "barely" good enough to win. ;)

I actually watched the game twice! Once with CBC & once with NBC, my boyfriend thought the American commentary was better! I liked both--but I could see his point. They explained stuff more. And were more excited about announcing the goals that went in or near goals.

But with CBC they showed Canadians reacting countrywide & parents in the stands. NBC was more about the game as a game. Less involved so less the tense too?

Anyways both had their flaws & positives to how they showed the game.

Many reasons why this year was not as thrilling/exciting as 2010 for me:

2010 on home soil
2010 Tight game with the "Golden Goal"
2010 Time Zone change....todays game started @ 7am!!

2 totally different tournaments...in many ways!

I'm fine with the celebration b/c of the fact that it was such a dominating performance in many ways. 3 goals allowed in 6 games, never lost, never trailed in any game etc. so it was more satisfying in the sense that little doubt as to who the best team was.

Team Canada's defense was a sight to behold, it crippled everything thrown at it and took away the opposing team's will to live. Must have been frustrating games to watch for fans of the other teams.

Funny that Latvia actually was the most intense and competitive game to watch, took up until late in the 3rd to seal the deal. Plus I loved that Latvia team's gutsy performance and how they just came at em from right out of the gate, in particular their goalie. And the fact that they managed a goal where U.S. & Sweden were not able to.

I realize TC controlled the play even in that game, but I cannot imagine the fallout if Price gives up a softy late in the 3rd and TC somehow loses to Latvia in the quarters.

Celebration was fine, like how they didn't rub it in or anything. Was a bit tame, but why force emotion if it isn't there, I'm just really impressed with how they played throughout. Few more goals wouldn't have hurt, but gotta love TC's performance, played as a team to perfection. That defense was like an impenetrable soul crushing machine and I loved it. So fundamentally sound, teams had the first half of the 1st period with a little daylight to get their one or two chances and then after that, forget about it. 4 lines to wear you down relentlessly.

Wasn't nearly as thrilling and dramatic to win, but less stressful also. It wasn't a letdown really, didn't expect them to go nuts. However it was nice to see Yzerman and company finally smile and celebrate at the end.

The Women's Final was absolutely epic.

Counting down the last 10 seconds of a 3-0 win cannot compare to a sudden win in any sport.

It doesn't feel the same for me because I don't hate Sweden. They're not a rival on the scale of the USA was in 2010. Plus, in 2010, it was on home soil, and we won in OT. This game was almost never in doubt.

This ^^^^^. I was so happy for the win, but said to the people was watching the game with the exact same thing: no big rivalry with Sweden. Add to that the anti-climactic nature of the game and it didn't feel anything like 2010. But still filled me with a huge swell of emotion and pride at the end when that final buzzer went :yo:

I was happy with the win too!! :handclap: made me feel happy!! Seeing them all get their gold medals! Loved every single player on the team!! Awesome!! I was proud of them!! :handclap:

Wow, they win the ****ing gold and people complain they don't celebrate hard enough? Good god, people are always looking to ***** about something.

If the Blackhawks roll through the playoffs and win the cup for the second straight year, winning in game 4 of the finals, by a score of 3-0, the celebration will be similar.

2010 was an overtime goal, for crying out loud. Of course that would be more of an emotional victory.

Be nice to the idiots.

If we are just talking about the men's half, the high isn't as great. But if the women's comeback win is added to the mix, it feels pretty good to me. Back to back to back to back, and in style.

The Latvia game was the most exciting. Gudlevskis and Darzins made it exciting. Today, it felt that no matter what, Sweden would never score.
