This is where the 15% tax treaty thing came into play. If you are paying a player a bonus, which would be considered an "inducement" to bring the player into or back to Canada, that can be taxed at the reduced rate of 15%. That is the main issue in the Tavares case, not necessarily residency.

I'm just never going to be onboard with people who get paid $100M before they hit the age of 40 complaining that their taxes are too high.

My apologies to all of the 1%ers out there who've been hit hard by equitable taxation policies.
